Ship Tailor Color Alteration Broken

The Ship Tailor option to alter colors for your starship or shuttle is broken. You can still change skins and patterns, but fiddling with the colors does absolutely nothing.

You did use the ADVANCED tab to alter the colour PATTERNS first, right? Otherwise you are changing colours on no pattern. You can have each ship part a different pattern to suit.
I go for Corvus mostly, but Gemini on my Romulans.

I have this problem on my Romulan - have not tried on Fed or KDF since LoR. Was this on a Rom?

The color doesn't look like it's applied in the tailor, you can't see any preview. But, if you change the colors and purchase (free token) when you get out in sector space it has applied.

I have a couple of lower-level ships that are not at all to my liking because I couldn't preview the change. Plus the color in the selector looks much lighter than the color once it's on a ship. This happened every time I've used the flotilla/RR ship tailor. I plan to try the ESD/Q'onos ship tailors, see if they work.

Of course I used the Advanced tab. That's how I was able to still change the skins and patterns. But again, color remains the same, no matter what I pick from the palette.

I first noticed this problem with my Alien toon with the KDF.

Yep. I have that problem. On my Rom if I choose a pattern often the color is so washed out you can't even tell it's there. I find that if I fiddle with the various settings (skins, basic patterns, etc.) eventually it kicks in. However all the colors show on the ship as a kind of dark reddish brown, regardless of the color chosen on the palette. Have seen this some on KDF since LoR release but mostly on Rom character. Both ship and the character tailor are all messed up. Seriously needs a major fix, Cryptic!! :(

when the Risian Corvette becomes availabe to most of the gaming population, there will be such an outcry about not being able to adjust the color that they will finally prioritize this. Until then, tough titty

The workaround is to select a stock ship template on the left, edit the colors as desired, then go into Advanced and change the individual ship parts to the ones you want.

I can comfirm this to anyone else reading this. It does, however, present a flaw to those ships, like shuttlecraft, that do not have individual ship parts. For ships like those, it is black or nothing.

I'm not completely sure if it's part of the same problem, but loading a customized ship (one with mixed parts of the default models) can lead to the game loading one of the default versions and you need to load your model once (or more) again to have it finally load correctly. And of course, the colors will still be wrong.

Speaking of this, if your ship is a default one but with different patterns and colors, it'll load without any bug, even the colors will be correct.

EDIT: And... I just discovered even if you choose a default model, the material choice doesn't work at all for Romulan ships (at least the Ha'apax). The randomize option, however can switch between materials.

EDIT: And Type 1 windows for Romulan ships lack their textures, instead appearing as big purple squares.

Thank God it's not just me. Thought I was going colourblind. All ship colours/skins for my Fed character show as washed out blacks and greys. :(

Same here, I thought it was just me cuz when I got a new ship I couldn't change the colors at all. Thought it might have just been a bug with that ship's texture so I ignored it and now I've just bought another ship and am having the same issue. When I have the time to work through two ships and the bug still persists, it makes me very upset/disappointed.

    EDIT:

I can also confirm that this does work. Thank you for that. I am much less upset with the game now.

It seems the issue was resolved, somewhat, on the Rom side but now I'm having even worse issues on the Fed side. Since the last patch I can't change the color scheme on any Fed ship at all. And there are still major issues with the costume tailor (and WTH happened to the soft boots? Those are the only footwear options that work with the Motion Picture style uniforms!)

I can confirm this also on the Romulan side, none of the color options are working on the ship paint.

A related issue is when you have shields equipped that change appearance, such as the reman shields, this will lock the skin and not allow changes to the skin. I'm wondering if the two are related.

The issue is not resolved on the Rom side. I cannot change the colours on any of my warbirds.

I think this one is more an oversight than a bug (still VERY annoying and it should be investigated, though) and you can fix this by temporarly disabling the visuals by right-clicking on the shield upgrade or removing the ship.

And while it's related to the tailor, would it be possible for the team to consider adding the color patterns of the Risian Corvette to the rest of the player's ships if they unlocked the Corvette?

Update on this bug - there is a workaround.

Choosing one of the basic templates restored the ability to set the colors.

I.e. I clicked on the basic T'Varo template to the left (the only option,) and I could set colors on my T'Varo again.

I have a Risian Corvette and can not see changes to the colours and patterns in the editor.

I have tried every workaround listed here and it is not working at all.

I however can see the pattern I and colour I have set when on the character select screen, sadly once I load all I see is a dull and plain ship with no pattern and not the colour I want it to be :(

I really wish they would fix this.

Clicking the "randomize" button will also allow you to change colors. Of course you will have to reset your parts and patterns.

I had this happen on my Fed Tac's 'vette. Hit <Randomize>, ability to set & see colours came back.:D

As the others have said, hit randomize first, then dial in your preferences, it's a royal pain if you only want to change one thing but it works and it's the only way around this bug.

This has been around for a while, as well as the workaround. Hit <RANDOMIZE>, and then go through and pick everything to the way you want. Colours WILL show up on your preview window, correctly.

To get the Shp Tailor to work, try hitting the "random" button, or reset the type of ship, and try the colors out. You'll have to rebuild your Ship to your own specs again, but this should get the colors working. I hope this helped.:)

One of my many creations Dyson Ship with working colors/decals with my work around I have been doing & saying since the bug crawled up
Ok first do as I say not as I do. ;)

    1) Go to shipyard, select active ship or shuttle you wish to customize.

    2) Go to ship customization officer (aka ship tailor) now this is where it gets tricky but it works on KDF & FED.

    3) Select advanced then Randomization*. Which might try to sell you the C-store/Zen items/options.

Either just keep clicking randomization slowly until you see it no longer say it will cost zen.
Or click on the item the Randomization changed & set it back to the free options.
BUT do NOT click undo it will rebug again!

Now to select your COLOR click on the color box, select your color(s).

Next choose your ship color patterns/decals (Virgo, Leo, etc for your Hull, saucer, etc). You may do this for each section of the ship from the Hull to your Mission Pod (if applicable) & so on.

More info on the options available to customize for your starship - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Playable_starship#Customization

Please note if this is your FIRST edit to this ship you can do this for free unless you choose a different bridge or C-store item. You could have accidentally tried to edit in past but not done anything (click the purchase button without doing anything to the ship will still count to the system as a edit thus losing that first free edit).

This work around should work if not reply again & I will include screen shots of each step.

Please be patient they do try to address things when they can & correct them when they can.

*DEVS please look into the randomization button in ship customization as it seems to correct this issue for me. Pardon any typos. Thank you.

It may have to do with a coding for the material/metal implement with the LoR release as it's ship's did allow New content. However the Randomization button is a quick fix for the bug until it is fixed. I hope this helps.
