STO Appreciation thread...

ussexeterussexeter Member Posts: 17 Arc User
I just wanted to post to say how AWESOME STO is!!! I've played Star Trek games my whole life and while there were a few decent ones like "Bridge Commander" & "Starfleet Command II- Empires At War" nothing has come close to the excellence of this game.

Every old game was the same, a space shooter game and nothing else. It's like the creators of STO read my mind. I always wanted a vast space map to explore- check, Away Missions and space combat- check, Ability to roam around your ship to different parts of the ship-check, Control an Excelsior Class Starship- check, Different uniforms-check, control and manage your crew- check, and I'm just 3 months in to my adventure playing this game.

Surely everyone like me who has been playing Star trek games for the past 20 years must agree.

I always wanted a vast space map to explore- check Exploration in this game is horrible and not worth doing., Away Missions Away missions are boring and repetetive, and let's face it: an admiral shouldn't be doing away missions. and space combat- check The best point this game has, though it could still be a lot better., Ability to roam around your ship to different parts of the ship-check This is an extremely limited feature and only 0.5-1% of your ship is available to explore, if that., Control an Excelsior Class Starship- check, Different uniforms-check, control and manage your crew- check, and I'm just 3 months in to my adventure playing this game.

GET OVER YOURSELF!!! I am SO sick of players like you ruining every positive thread on this forum! Cryptic has done an amazing job on STO. Could it be better? Maybe, but so could a lot of things, nothing is ever perfect. This is the best Star Trek game by far and I applaud Cryptic's valiant efforts to continually improve it, which they have vastly. Even when constantly ridiculed and under fire by annoying little misanthropes like you.

ALL HAIL CRYPTIC!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Without being a Cryptic fanboy, I will say that this is a great MMO, and the best ST game I have ever played.

That said, there are things that can improve, and not just in the sense of "there's always something to improve". Plot threads need tying up, I personally feel that exploration needs work, and there are still quite a few bugs that need to be cleaned up.

Still, it's a hell of a game, and I love it. Better than EVE, that's for sure.

    To all the naysayers,

First, allow me to apologize ahead of time for my poor grammar, I'm doing this from my phone

Secondly, you haven't proved the guy wrong. This game does have all those things, they're just not u to your personal standards. Question: Is there a game out there that does all of those things that do live up to your standards?

If you love Star Trek or space battles then this your only choice. I also think they did a fine job on the casual leveling and pre end-game content. Otherwise, prepare to grind your eyes out.

Or do foundry stuff, which is another fantastic tool that (I don't think) most MMOs have. That in itself is a fantastic product for geeks who likes to tell stories and geeks that has an appreciation for them. Cryptic has given these talented people a tool to not only express themselves, but to also get feedback.

Yeah it has glitches and limits, butit's still a fantastic tool that most games don't have

True on a Foundry ... Except it is a pain to use if you want to search for content.

Foundry is a big plus. It could use some work, but it's a truly revolutionary and great idea.

    Star Trek Online is epic.

And I am just waiting on the Foundry Toolset update and then I'm going to be like a Lemming. But not one of those that blow up - they all nasty-like.

nothing can ever be unimprovable there is always things that can be added modified or tweeked for an enhanced experiance.
thank goodness the devs are always working on updates and new seasons for us to emerse our selves in.
but as it stands i agree with the author of this thread that sto is indeed the best star trek game you will find atm for an all round star trek experiance, with its freedom of what when and how you play the game, the multitude of differant characters you can play and ships you can fly and the variation of mission styles, star systems, planets and enemy types you can encounter there is no other star trek game that even comes a tenth of the greatness of sto.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

It's a fantastic core game that just needs some TLC and polish. It has the potential to be one of the best MMO's out there, no doubt about that.

Jumping the bandwagon here. Yes, the game could be better, but it seems to be developping and it is also awesome game to play. Before I played STO, I hated most MMO's, because they felt dull... but I really enjoy this game and hope that it grows even further. And well, the developpers can use some encouraging, instead of the typical hate-wagons we see there every day. :)

I never said that the game was bad. All I said was that there are definitely areas that need improving. Some more than others. To be honest, I enjoy the game. I mostly play foundry missions, its my favorite part about the game. Though as someone already said, the search feature is rather difficult to use.

TBH, I really don't think that the MMO aspect of the game is as appealing as the sheer depth of detail, flexibility, and immersion the game engine offers. Yeah, it's my first true MMO, but how many players can you truly interact with at once? Of course, it takes a massive number of players to justify the commitment of tech resources to keep the game fresh & funded. Even doing STF's can be tedious, depending on how unruly or stubborn your Fleet officers may be.

And I am really surprised at how well the game runs on my 9.5-yo comp; I get some graphics lags when changing systems, but everything else works beautifully, and the game files load rather quickly compared to some other multiplayer games/mods. I just hope PWE can keep the doors open long enough to enjoy a full career for my characters. :P

Props to Cryptic & PWE for a super fun gaming experience!

Congrats STO. You took over my life :). I can't even play other games now, or have a need for gaming consoles. (Saved me a lot of money btw). All time must be used for STO. Thanks for going Free to play, and using such a nice system where all people can get good stuff (even if they spend nothing). I have to support a game like this! The best F2P system in the history of the universe... FACT

This is truly my favorite game!
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.

Not many games get the title "One of my all-time Favorite Games"
STO deserves this honourary title, and is amongst some of the greatest gaming experiences I have come across (since starting my "Gaming Career" on Atari 2600)

    Some titles already on my All-Time Favorites list;
-Resident Evil 1 & 2 (Begining of Horror Genre and still the pinnacle)

-Diablo 2 LoD (lots of similarities to STO and STO takes these similarities a step furthur)

-Red Dead Redemption (For its heart wrenching plot)

-Final Fantasy 7 (One of the best storylines in video game history)

-Mass Effect Series (For giving me a Sci Fi KotOR)

-Zelda Ocarina of Time (Brought the Zelda franchise to new heights in gameplay and plot)

-Ultima Series by Lord Brittish (when mmos didn't exist)

These are only a few off the top of my head. But STO indeed deserves and has earned its place amongst the giants.
Thanks STO for saving me from Diablo3 and SWtOR...and from having to buy a new console.
I'm with STO for the next few years exclusively
STO will you marry me ? Lol :D

I like STO. Some aspects of it are simply brilliant, but like most things, it can always do better.

As for showing appreciation or respect, well that has to be earned, and the devs have yet to do that.

They are however, making it harder by doing some truly stupid things, and making awful decisions game-wise....

This is the game I least play. I hate it; I don't believe it is abhorrent.

While there are many features and systems that are EXACTLY like Star Trek, I can't put up with it.

This is perhaps the worst game that have never reached me! It is definitely in the bottom 3 worst Star Trek games EVER!

PS: It is not Opposites day!
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

Well i dont give much about "trek", but for the game, yeah its good,
others mention it allready a lot, there is still much work tbd.
BUT, looking back the last months, a LOT of stuff gets resolved, even if people
    tend to forget about that.
The team is doing a rather good job in sorting out problems,
remember EptE Spamming spheres in ISE crashign into the gate?

    Or the ody?s "blowfish" escort?

Most problems get sorted in a solid timeframe, given that the team is not that large
and funds are nowhere near the top companys,
beside that, i like the progress made in the last months, with the beginning rework of ship classes, and how it turns out (from additional armor for cruisers to cruiser commands, which are FAR more interesting)

In short, especially during the last Months, we saw a LOT of great and new approaches to things, which makes me trust in the dev team, and glad to be aboard for the journey ahead.

I am always a Star Trek fanatic, and this game is the first mmo I've ever played. I made my fiancee play as well, she wasn't a gamer and this is the first mmo she's ever played as well. Thanks to Sto, our relationship are closer than ever, we have even planned the renovations of our new house similar to how we build our starbase and fleet spire (gosh now she wants to have a nice balcony just like our spire).
Whether or not this game will last, it'll always be part of our memories together. Thank you Sto:)
