Mail System ate a Lock Box ship

So, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to send a Lockbox ship to a friend of mine, through the mail system. The game decided to eat the item, instead of popping it out on the other side, at his mailbox. It is nowhere to be found in either of our inventories, or mail boxes.

I've already submitted a report, I just wanted people to know that they should NOT rely on the mail system to send anything rare/significant. It is decidedly NOT fixed.

Given that I doubt anybody has a name similar to that, and I would HOPE the game wouldn't eat a ship if I sent it to a non-account/character. That would be really annoying.

-.- Finally received response from Cryptic, and I feel compelled to inform everyone...

Cryptic (or PWE, whatever) has stated that they are 'not able' to restore any lost items like this. So, given the situation, I implore you all...NEVER use the mail system. It is BROKEN, and Cryptic CANNOT help if you lose your items through it.

*Sigh* Lesson learned... I figured it would be as simple as checking the logs of:

    1. Alarikun obtains Lock Box ship from Exchange, it is in his inventory.
    2. Alarikun places Lock Box ship in Mail, and attempts to send it to X@Y.
    3. Mail is sent, and Lock Box ship is no longer in Alarikun's inventory.
    4. Mail never arrives in X@Y's mailbox, thus being lost in limbo.

Figured they could look at that, realize that it's a glitch, and simply restore my ship. -.-

    Is it that hard?

I think that is possible that your ship is not lost .

The stupid mail system has some limits and when you hit the limit you stop receiving any new mail until you delete from existing mails .
( I stopped using the mail because I am way off from limits and I don't want to waste my time by deleting/sorting existing mail attachments.)

A possible solution it would be that your friend delete older mails one by one (before delete save existing attachments !!!!!!!!), closes and opens mail console, until he can see last mails .

If even then there is no mail with ship then is bad news .........

Worse part of it is that it can take some time until he cleanse his mailbox

*Nod* I've emptied my mailbox, and he's emptying his. Supposedly the "Lost and Found" system might return the object in question. If it can't though, PWE has stated they can't do anything about it (Which is BS, in my opinion, but meh).

I will report back here if it clears up, but I stand by my point.

yea. this game has become unreliable. I've lost faith in it, with all the game server crashing going on too and that mailbox stuff you mention. Things have gone missing on me too lately.

Have yet to lose a single item. Sounds more like user error to me.

Count yourself lucky. I am just putting the warning out there. If you DO lose an item, and the "Lost and Found" system does not have it, it's lost. For good. GMs can't apparently help with it.

This happened to me as well. Lost a Bug ship. Stupid me sent it to one of my alts via the mail system instead of the account bank. Received the same response from PWE. They probably just cut and paste the response. And yeah, it could easily have been checked by looking at the records. Stopped playing for a few months, I was so PO. But the game pulled me back despite my anger. Just love Star Trek, what can I say.

Try sending something of no value to a person that doesn't exist. If it sends. It may be returned in 30 days.

You have experience? I guess this presumes I mis-typed it, and it went to a non-account. That would be nice, although inconvenient to wait 30 days. Not losing 80 mil would be nice at the end of the day.

If I remember right, when mailing stuff to myself in the past, I would accidentally try to mail it my log in password, instead of my @username on occasion. When this happened it wouldn't even send the mail and just straight up tell me that the username doesn't exist when clicking the send button. I don't recall exactly since it's been a while since of mistakenly done it.

Edit: So basically I believe if the mail did go through, it was sent to *someone*. If it did get sent to an actual player account, there is nothing Cryptic can do since you would be at fault.

However, you guys remember the huge fuss about the mail system nerf? It was after LoR launched but before the Risa summer event. Cryptic change the mail system back then so players couldn't use it as a nearly infinite bank to store massive amounts of duty officers and items.

What happened was they misplaced a ton of player's items. Players complained about all the stuff they lost and demanded answers. It took Cryptic about a month, maybe more, before finally acknowledging the mail changes and explained that items weren't lost, only text mail was gone for good. Players were pissed because they had text mail that was important to them.

Anywho, it took Cryptic about 2 months or so to start returning misplaced items in the mail.

So it sure as hell wouldn't be the first time items went missing in the mail system.

Try contacting customer support again and ask them if the item was sent to an actual account (don't ask who as I don't think they would tell you), or if it's possible the system glitched and your item is there. If they still say the can't help you, tell them you want someone of a higher authority to look into the matter. If that don't work, all I can suggest is to send pwebranflakes a PM on the forums and ask him what you can do and who to contact to get somebody to actually look into the matter.

The problem with STO customer support is that I think sometimes all they do is read the support ticket and just give you an answer without ever actually having anybody look into the matter.

Edit 2: Forgot to mention that they must have done something recently since the mail system is currently screwed up (fix for it on tribble server though), with us getting double mail from the exchange, with 1 copy of the mail you can't delete, but goes away after you delete the other copy and close then reopen the mail window. So I really wouldn't put it past Cryptic to have your item misplaced.

Yeah, I've lost a few items of little import too in the mail system. I just don't use it now. It really could do with being fixed pdq!

Well, update for everyone. My friend actually received the item after clearing his entire inbox, and waiting over a day. Still, it's risky, so I would recommend using the normal trade system, as opposed to mail.
