6750 Zen On Lock Boxes

pet1e86pet1e86 Member Posts: 126 Arc User
Spent 6750 Zen on Master Keys for lockbox's and all i get is absolute rubbish. few Voth sniper rifles, few Voth Beam arrays, butt load of duty officer support packs and some lobi.

Really Lifetime subscription Since game launch, i go away for 2 years , come back and you have ruined the game, its all about money money money.; How about you let me buy the ships i want, rather then pile in lots zen which i shouldn't have to do and then still not get what i want.

JUST PUT ALL SHIPS IN ZEN STORE, while your at it, remove the stupid cap on dilithium refinement for lifetime members, only doing that to grab more money too!!

Was so much potential for this game, seems now its just a money earner and is a shame to the whole star trek franchise

    1. Game is fun.
    2. Never expect to win when gambling.
    3. If you sold those keys, you could've bought any ship sans the jhas.
    4. Don't blame the game for your ignorance

I quit the game when the jhas came out. I despised the fact I had to gamble to win. I recently came back to check things out...figured out how to make a 2-10mil a day and now I have lobi ships, lobi gear and lockbox ships.

Learn to enjoy what's fun, not what it ethically wrong
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

Oh, I'm so sorry you paid 300 bucks and got a whole bunch of cool stuff. I'm sorry this isn't purely a pay to win game. Please, tell me more about how you're entitled to better treatment than everyone else. And, are you serious? You bought, what, around 60 keys with that? Why? Why would you do that? That could've been used in much better ways.

I bought a lottery ticket the other day and didn't win. The stupid cashier wouldn't give me my money back.

If you wanted the Voth ship, selling keys would have been the easy way to do it.

Here is my method if I have money to burn. Open up enough lockboxes to get enough Lobi for the Bind on Pickup Lobi Store items that I want. Then sell keys until I get enough EC to buy what Lockbox and Lobi items that I want on the Exchange. Might luck out and get a Lockbox ship, but I don't count on it. Opening up a ton of lockboxes just to get a lockbox ship is a waste of money.

Lock boxes are a lottery, plain and simple. Don't complain if you lose, no one forced you to play.

I bought 10,000 zen for 100 keys. I got junk too. Swore an oath to never buy zen for keys ever again.

(I have all the ships I want, so likely will never buy zen again. Even if the release a 5 fore slot KDF ship I most likely won't.)
Time is a funny thing; There is always too much of it. Except when you need it the most, then there is never enough.

I LOL'd at this one, because its so true! What did you expect for a lottery? to win every time? Lockboxes will always be a lottery. Some people don't seem to understand the concept of "Random". I still open them every now and again, not thinking I'd get the "top prize" but for the fun of what MIGHT come out!

Lol all the cryptic lovers come out to defend the lock boxes its so sad to watch.

Btw guys hes not saying "i want bla for myself" but instead hes saying noone should like including you guys. And btw hes right. Ofc cryptic is allowed to earn money but as always there are good ways and bad ways to do something and well they didnt take the good one.

On a side note it feels strange to me to allow a game to have lottery like stuff ingame while at the same time not having an age restriction. If it were up to me i would put an 18+ age restriction on the game just for the lockbox stuff but thats just me.

Also basically he is paying with his failed "getting lock box ship x" for a lot of other players so a tiny bit of gratitude wouldnt be too far off.

But dear OP as someone here already implied: just sell your keys on the exchange and then buy whatever ship you want there. No gamble no risk this way.

Edit: Everything but the lobi is available on the exchange - go through there instead if there's something you want.

No reason to spend that kind of money, really. Much better things to spend it on, out there.

The lock boxes don't need to be defended. Everyone knows it's a crapshoot and cryptic don't make a secret of it. If you don't like the odds then don't use them.

And Lock boxes are hardly unique to criptic. Plenty of mmo's have them, particularly free to plays.

You don't need to be a Cryptic lover to defend Lock Boxes. It's very clear that they are a gamble; it's not a lottery since the thing you buy (a Key) is a tradeable commodity with a definite reward. You will get *something*, and good luck convincing your Trading Standards rep that a Bastion cruiser is more valuable in any real sense than a Voth beam array.

Been gone 2 years almost and just come back. Was stating my opinion on what is a crappy system.

I learned that lock boxes are rubbish so want the option of being able to buy a ship. Not asking for pay to win. As some fleet ships are better than lock box ships. I just would like to buy a ship. Why make it hard by buying keys. Sell them. Buy ship.

Its like going to supermarket to buy food and them saying buy a tv instesd. Exchange that fo supermarket credits then buy your food with supermarket credits. Whats the point.

I also didnt technically buy the keyes as when I logged in last week after almost 3 years away I had 11, 500 zen

The way it's been explained to us in the past is that the ships that come in lockboxes/lobi store are ones that would never be approved by CBS under normal circumstances. If I remember, there was something about CBS not wanting these ships to be easily accessible to everyone. Otherwise I don't think we would ever have the chance to fly these off-faction ships.

They also said that faction specific ships would never be in the boxes. So we won't be seeing Fed/KDF/Rom ships in there. Those go straight to the C-store.

The Temporal ships are Fed/KDF/Rom ships, but they are 29th Century ships so there is no logical reason why we should be able to use them which makes them perfect for lockboxes and not the C-Store.

It's only monday and we've already got another X ZEN, NO SHIP, ME ANGRY post.

On the same forums you're throwing your uninformed numbers around like they should have some kind of weight to anyone but you, other, more productive numbers have been presented.

The numbers I refer to are lockbox drop statistics. On every lockbox release from the very beginning, drop rates are determined by dedicated, mathy players who enjoy using microsoft excel. They go on tribble and open what must be thousands of boxes, record the results and create a statistical picture of drop likliehood for ships and the like, and then present their findings right here on the same forums you obviously didn't read before throwing what you assumed was a sufficient amount of money at a virtual loterry ticket and subsequently getting upset with the fruits of your lack of preparatory thought.

The actual math that would've saved you some emotion is that 1 in 200 boxes rewards a ship, for every box except the elachi one. The elachi lockbox has half that chance, it's like a .25% instead of the usual .5% the last I heard, though that may just be statistics being a frumpy mistress.

The point is the amount of zen you spent on keys is only about 25% the amount you'd needed to have spent if you wanted a sure thing, and if you had read the forums before storming here only to tantrum, you would know that and could've saved yourself some money. At best you had a 1 in 4 chance of getting a lockbox. If you had spent the ~20,000 zen you'd need to open 200 boxes and still didn't get a ship, then you and people like you would be justified in making these posts. Maybe.

But then again, on the same forums, another kind of post exists. These are by more sensible, economically minded players, who remind others that the game has a medium for you to acquire a lockbox ship for the same 50-60 dollars you've wasted today-- buying keys and then selling them on the exchange. 50 Keys around 1-3 mil each depending on the exchange will easily net you a lockbox ship. A player can also grind 1-2 million per day between foundry missions and killing npcs in kerrat for an hour, selling particle traces from dilithium mining, and using engineering doffs to craft ~100k items and farm stacks of contraband while they're logged off. All of this before just using wall street buy low sell high tactics on the exchange that all the STO gazillionares practice. The point is, if you need your 50-120 million, it can easily be ground out for free within about 30 2-hour play sessions, so the fact that your impatience didn't pay off is actually kind of reassuring if anything. Just do it right like everyone else. Or just do half and then only spend 25 dollars. Whatever floats your boat.

In the meantime, there is a mantra when it comes to lockbox ships in the community. Say it with me now, and from now on say it when you log on, say it when log off, say it when you scratch the gray TRIBBLE off the back of the prepaid card for the code, and say it every time you click the "sort' button in your inventory and bank. Ready? here it goes.

Only open boxes for lobi. Only sell keys to buy ships.

There is no sympathy for people who make uninformed choices or those who let greed get the best of them and try to go for the lottery odds of getting their lockbox ships and their lockbox goodies too. You aren't entitled to get anger because you wanted to get lucky and didn't. In the meantime, go spend 13000 more zen if you want a post like this to be met with anything aside from rolled eyes, or just read up on the other 14 posts like this there will be this week and read the same solutions that I've presented you with and the same ones that everyone else who's made a post like this has been and will be presented with.

You're welcome for presenting the contents of all the reading you haven't done in one easy post. Most are so unfortunate as to never have a chance to learn from mistakes like this.

So here are some thoughts for this thread and others like them.

C-Store ships apparently do not make that much money as the lock boxes at all. The game would starve if that was all that really generated revenue.

As another stated there is always something in lockboxes. 50 lobi and you get a good weapon that does not need upgrading. 200 and you get stuff for your ship or special costumes, etc. So that is value.
And the doff packs sell well on the exchange as fleets always need them.

But the counter to just sell the keys is this. No, the ship(s) some of us want are not always on the market. Only way to get them then is to grind your way through the right lockboxes and pray.

Someone has to pay or grind to open lockboxes to win the ships to put on the exchange.

I tried to explain this the other night in chat and was informed that NOOOO Cryptic puts a certain number of them directly on the exchange at the start of a lockbox therefore there is no reason to buy keys/grind for keys.

Quite impressive for idiot logic... I have to admit. Here's where it falls apart though... IF Cryptic did that, and word got out... there would be zero lockbox sales as everyone would just zerg-rush the exchange when a box launches.

Who is forcing anyone to open a lockbox?

    It's a gamble after all.

I wanted a monbosh battleship. Two choices: Buy it on exchange or buy a ****load of keys and hope to unlock some useful stuff one the way.

Well i only got a useless mirror univers ship, a very useful space trait (helmsman) an elachi tier XII weapon loadout and a ****load of useless stuff in the process.

It was no disaster but i probably should've bought the ship on the exchange.

Am i pissed off? No - it felt like playing the lottery and it didn't work out.
If noone would do it noone can buy jack all on the lottery.

Yes cryptic is earning a crapton with this. It also means they have money to keep improving this game.

I was playing this at release and i left before my freemonth was up.
I am back for a couple months now and i found a very nice game that keeps improving and gets regular events and updates.

Their system works well to lure you into spending money. The patient or simply broke players can still fly around in risan corvettes, breen ships and obelisks. It'S not liek all the cool stuff has to be bought.

There is no one to complain to but yourself for playing the ridiculous lottery in the first place. Buying keys to me isn't really much better because you will still spend zen and/or cash for someone else to possibly open a box and get a ship they don't want for it to possibly end up in the exchange. If everyone just bought keys and didn't open any lockboxes there basically wouldn't be ANY lockbox ships in the exchange either. So somebody has to play the lock box lotto and Cryptic knows this by feeding into people who have a gambling addiction or mentality. If anything spend your free zen each month at purchase what you will with that alone on keys to sell or open boxes with, and let your real cash purchase from the store only.

So funny, I use keys now and then, but only when I feel like throwing away a few dollars, rare but meh. This game is not pay to win, most special consoles give such a minor advantage that it's near nonexistent, what you pay for is purely cosmetic and that's the way it should stay, if a lockbox lotto is the cost of that so be it.

Oh, by the way, to the op. I am also a lifer from launch, with Collectors Ed. Blah blah blah so what? No different from anyone else other than my Borg playable character. Oh and a Title that shows I throw money at DIGITAL things. Big woop.

honsetly, the only reason i open up lock boxes is for the lobi to get those ships. the drops are cool and all, but i belive the lobi ships are better.

as for the op... buying that much zen... would have been better to sell the keys (or buy something else to sell) and then buy the ship on the exchange. you have to open something like 100-120 boxes of one type to get a drop ship. (yes we've all heard the "i opened 4 boxes in a row and got x ship". but its not that frequent)

edit; yeah the op later said hed rather BUY the ship... well search through the exchange, all the ships are there. tho the bug is still h377a expencive

Everyone says read forums, do this do that, millions of ways to do this an do that.

Time is at a premium to me, i do not always have the time to read through the sheer volume of threads on this forum.

I do not have time to Grind away 100 Million energy credits either as at the rate i have been going that will take 4 months.

I would just like the ship for COSMETIC reasons and do my own little thing in the time i get to play.

I want to Play NOT work

Pay to Win?????????? LOL Most of the ships are all just for cosmetic reasons!

Cryptic are devious, advertise all over the screen every 2 minutes, someone got such & such ship, someone got this ship, someone got that ship acting as if its very common to get one. Do i know the odds of getting a ship?, No, why should i have to read all this information.

But please continue to gnash your teeth and bark without actually responding to comments with proper counter arguments. I am certain you will gain much for your efforts.
