Craftable ground set and space weapons set...

mcduffie369mcduffie369 Member Posts: 787 Arc User
Add a ground weapons set that is made of 2 phaser weapons, a wide beam phaser and a split beam or high density beam rifle for federation and a disruptor auto rifle and compression pistol for KDF. Likewise for space, phaser beam/ photon for Feds... etx
Crafting needs more unique items.

I think it'd be awesome if they had "racial" ground and space sets that could be crafted.

    Cardassian space+ground, Andorian space+ground, etc.

Why does the Federation get the crappy hand phaser?

I crafted my main up to the max craft level the first month I played and havent touched it since.

Makes me fricken mad too, cause in any other game I play I am a serious business crafter that makes all of my money selling stuff I made.

    Ugh.

The only thing Cryptic will do to "revise" crafting is to multiply the dilithium requirements of everything you can craft.

dil cost pretty much killed crafting stone dead.

its completely stupid atm that you can basically buy a console or something for near enough the same amount dil but to craft one you need piles of mats (which represent invested time) as well.

there may be hope however because that dil cost was added (to up the grind) by a charmless goit of a normally "higher up" cryptic suit that came in and took over during a break in DStahls tenure of heading up the game.

just have to get them to...re-appraise...that idea (ie "kill it with fire")...and i think they very well might now as the rep system has no doubt shown the value of "opening things up"...and hopefully then get them to add a bit more variety/relevance to crafted items.

i'd be happy with some new purple choices with different modifiers tbh

Id say its moreso the fact that literally nothing you can craft is anywhere near as powerful as rep or fleet gear... and realistically no one would even bother with crafted gear when mk xii purples are as cheap as they are on the exchange (with the exception of ultra min max type stuff like Elachi Disruptor DBB ACCx3s and whatnot)

The Reshearch system will at some point get an overhaul... It's just a matter of time, and at that point, it will get gear that is most likely equal in strength to fleet and rep gear (this likely includes an upgrade to the Aegis set).

The problem is that most of us don't have the patience to wait for it... And yes... I am one of them.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Did some crafting last month, but that was so my Romulan would have the Aegis set and Purple Mk X Science Kits. Of course, all the crafting was done on my main Fed character that has been around for years.

not everyone is in a fleet or even wants to be.

not everyone is rich enough to consider mk xii purples "cheap".

rep gear, while nice, does not fill every want or desire.

people do crazy things like fly non-optimal builds because they like certain beam colors...

some people still want normal antiprotons cause the Voth ones look TRIBBLE...

you might not see it because its not how you apparently choose to play but the truth is if you don't pvp or do elite STFs you can pretty much do anything you want "build" wise in this game.

i spend most of my time in a ship with "retro" blue phasers...and what's more i'm probably going to buy a Charal just to get more, slightly better and different blue phasers...yes buying a ship just for non-optimal weapons...a ship i won't even use...and i won't be buying purple MK XII consoles probably ever...infact the only purple mark XII consoles i own are two beam ones on a multi beam type debuffing mirror assault cruiser tank build...and i only have those cause one dropped and the other was really cheap cause its normally seen as useless TRIBBLE...and yes i'm well aware you might be headdesking at the non-optimal-ness and seeming craziness of all that right now (hehe)..but like i said...in a very real sense it doesn't really matter.

also variety is kinda "fun"...and being locked into the optimal build mentality...well i'm not going to say "it isn't" because no doubt you like "pwning"...but it does take away the "fun" of playing around with variety.

look i've done the "optimal build" stuff. i was a high end WoW raider playing SP and Aff Lock back when they were actually hard to play (hardest classes in game then by most accounts) and trust me if i wasn't "optimal" i lost my spot to someone else...i was also a senior guild officer responsible for bring new recruits up to raiding par and a class leader for two classes so i've done a fair share of headdesking over other peoples choices myself.

but i play this game because a. its star trek and b. it used to never be anything like that...this game was initially one of my escapes from that...

common interest in and talk of "optimal builds"...is actually quite new to STO (certainly outside of the Klingon pvp forums)...talk of counting DPS only really came in with F2P and people drifting in from other MMO environments...and i'm probably not going to listen to people who tell me i should play like that either...im done with that. i'm too old and i don't care anymore about topping DPS meters and all the TRIBBLE that goes along with trying to achieve it.

and there are a lot of people like me who "don't really care about that" here.

    anyway...where were we ?...

ah yes...crafting...there are a few things which still sell well and for a very healthy amount of EC on the exchange if you can be arsed crafting them and using up dil (and no i'm not going to say what they are but there are topics around here that discuss it) but they aren't "optimal" things by any means.

i should probably just have written the last paragraph on reflection :o
ah well time for a cuppa...

You do realize that crafting actually costs you MORE in terms of both resources AND time right?
