Elachi Cluster Torpedo

mwhitakermwhitaker Member Posts: 131 Arc User
Yeeeaaaahhh...if we could just find out why we don't get access to this weapon that'd be great...but really though. Why do players not get access to the Elachi Cluster Torp? It's basically the cloaking tractor mines stuck inside the breen transphasic cluster torp tube. It's not any kind of wunderwaffe but it would still be fun to have, especially to use against pesky nanite spheres and assimilated raptors.

Because the devs hate torpedoes and blatantly favor energy weapons. See also: transphasic chronitons.

The Vendor Trash is NOT a better place silly.

But really its sad the only thing i have anymore that deals Kinetic damage is the Kinetic Cutting Beam.... Cause torps are just useless.

The borg torp is still useful. Great for finishing off large clusters of enemies. But yeah, other than that I can't think of a torpedo really worth equipping. :(

Are torpedoes really that bad to you guys? I use them on every build, with the fabulous TS3. If they ARE that bad then I could be getting seriously more power but mounting more DEM weapons and swapping THY and TS for attack patterns.

Torpedos are neglected where tactical consoles are concerned. Unless your making an exclusive torpedo boat.

They are great for burst but terrible for sustained...thus avoided by players that seek optimized energy builds

This is a bad Thread from me, especially when you consider the fact that I just setup my newest level 50 KDF Science alt to run a stealth bomber build with the B'rel Retrofit

Yup. Equiping torp consoles kind of gimps your overall dmg output.

Honest question - are they decent enough torpedo type weapons? Or is it the joke weapon like it looks like it is?

The Elachi subspace torp as is is not bad. I run the full Silent enemy set on my main's S'Golth so kind of have to use it, but it's not bad at all. The 2 DHC's and the heavy cannon (Sometime with an axial blast tossed in) bring down shields, then I spread the subspace and do some decent wrecking.

As far as other decent torps, Romulan Hyperplasma is very good, and an odd one is the Temporal Disruption device. I have this rear mounted on an Orb Weaver, and it either works as fire diversion, or hits for some rather decent damage. I just use high yield and don't bother with torp consoles. (I do get the Temporal Warfare set bonus though.) For the rest on the Orb I run all AP and the Obelisk tech set. Gets a good level of damage to back up the sci abilities.

These are probably the top 3 torps, but have yet to try out Omega Plasma or the new Gravimetric Photon.

They're meh-ish. Fun if mixed with an array of equally trollish projectile menaces. They fit the vibe of the Adapted Battle Cruiser well, with the shrapnel rockets and all. Nothing like throwing every unique projectile on all at once--Breen clustorp, tractor mines, web mines, omega torp, rommie torp, bio-neural, bio-molecular, new gravimetric...good times

Oh dear what have I started. But in all seriousness I use plasma torps mixed with gravity well - it's fun yet competitive - and I don't even have the best consoles yet. The best part is the consoles cost me nothing whereas serious energy consoles, even mediocre ones, cost more than any other gear.

Now back to your regularly scheduled topic - please add elachi cluster torps and transphasic chronitons to the lobi store, I wanna actually spend my lobi from the event...

Have I got the thing for all of you. This is a concept torp, obviously something I would hope would never be added to the game, God forbid the ensuing cataclysm were it to be added...I give you, The Terrorpedo: based on Breen clustorp, fires projectile that splits into 10 nodes, each of which (like the rommie torp) launches 3 (like the omega torp) heavy plasma energy bolts?on impact, each bolt slows enemies like the temporal disruption device, causes a subspace disable effect like the elachi torp, has a chance for a subspace rift aftershock (like tricobalts), and has 20% bonus shield pen. Powercreep of the century right here.

But then we realize it only fires once every 30 minutes :D

Maybe if a boss had it.
    I want a Genesis Torpedo.

When it hits an enemy ship it turns them into a mini planet full of slug monsters.

    Fixed for you.

I ran a full and serious transphasic torpedo JHEC boat once in both PvE elite and PvP. I was surprised to find out that the build was incredibly effective and offered both good sustained and burst damage. With 2 torpedo DOffs, I was able to keep the breen cluster torpedo at maximum cooldown (15s). Because I was constantly firing torpedoes, I was able to utilize the breen cluster's burst effectively and consistently. At a point, I was also spamming the Photon Gravimetric torpedo as well.

With the above in mind, I've never used the Rapid fire missile. However, assuming that it has a chance to proc the torpedo cooldown, I could use it alone to lower cooldowns of all my other torpedoes instead of chaining 3 others.

What's the firerate of missiles. Do they benefit from doffs and bridge officer abilities?

The Ferengi missile launcher fires every 2 seconds (yeah, really) and it does work with High Yield and Spread. Sadly it doesn't really take good advantage of either due to the low damage per shot. It is however a 180-degree arc rather than a 90-degree one, so you can broadside with it in a cruiser if you're so inclined.

I still recommend against grabbing it unless you like spamming little missiles though. Even if Torp Spread 3 looks hilarious.

I post up the RFML because ... c'mon, MISSILES. Auto-fire that and it's literally fire-and-forget. Its DPS is not bad and some Torpedoes are definitely better. But as fast as it shoots coupled with its wide AoF, you'll not have to worry about lining up a shot or missing an opportunity due to the swirl of combat.

AND ... you don't have to work the Rep system for it.
