the one that that irks me in the rewards is that it's only a warp core. Cryptic you pretty much left the Romulans in the dog house on this one. I'm sure there is a way to make the set require either a Warp Core or a Singularity Core.
They are the only group that does not use warp cores. And for the most part it is assumed you will either use this gear on the Obsidian 1 or move them to the faction T5 carrier. Which is already warp core driven. Romulans do not have their own dedicated carrier yet. (And since carriers don't cloak, how much you want to bet when they get one it has a borrowed warp core?)

@ aftalus: not as far as I know. AFAIK the sequence you have to do at the end is generated randomly and there doesn't seem to be any sort of special code there.
The storyline of the Sphere of Influence had amazing tie-ins from different parts of the Star Trek Universe series! Here are all the Trek episodes I re-watched to reference the STO: Sphere of Influence. This would be especially helpful for those who haven't seen the every single series/episode.
TNG: "Schisms" S6E05
The quote Worf says, "I've been in this room before!" Just gave me chills and amazed on the recollection of the episode. STO tied in the unknown subspace aliens that abduct people with Iconians.
When I first saw the portals I was thinking the movies Stargate and Sphere. I was still blown by how much Trek references there was after re-watching specific episodes.
TNG: "Contagion" S2E11
(Iconian reference) A sister Enterprise-D ship having system problems and ends up self destructing! In the show they say the blue sphere prob sent a virus to have two different operating systems trying to communicate with each other. Though in STO storyline, Iconians intent is to destroy anyone who knows about the portals. Also has an underlining reason why Romulus was destroyed and Obelisk is some sort of key partner. In the TV episode they destroy the portal so the Romulans don't get a hold of the technology.
Launch Bay Key: Blue, Amber, Amber, Red.
Open Doors Key: Blue, Blue, Blue.
An "OH!" factor when using the computer screen at the end of Sphere of Influence.
DS9: "To the Death" S4E22
(Iconian reference) Again a portal is found and they destroy the portal once again so the Jem'Hadar don't get a hold of the technology. In the STO, New Romulas has Etachi robots roaming around to protect what's hidden or to prevent have the Romulans regroup.
TNG: "Relics" S6E04
Being inside the ship and seeing the enormous 360 sphere Astrometrics live view screen of the plants, gives you a hint on scale and the next mission reveling the Dyson Sphere.
