    45 min episode...gear...done...

    2500 rep a day to t5 of 100k...40 days.

The grind is there to get you to log in, play some content and just maybe buy something from the cstore.

If you got your gear in an hour and that's it for the season, you would have less reason to log in.

No one likes grinding, but it is a necessary evil to mmos. And all mmos are too scared to try and innovate a tried and true method of keeping people to log in.

An alternative is basterdly hard content, but this game's community can't take that

I agree. Personally I would enjoy "basterdly hard content" over another grind. I love STO and all, but I would like a challenge every now and then.

With S8 we all knew that the grind will continue, but I have to say that I do like the way the new rep is laid out and how you can also get a token to help your other toons progress faster in the reps that are were already in place before S8. The best part for me is that I do like the fact that we do not have to grind and buy the MKX, the the Xl and Xll. we can get the MKll off the bat but it is spread out over the tiers, AND that the store items unlock with each Tier and we do not have to run a project to unlock them. So it is not all bad....

A combination of hard and easier content would work for all concerned I think. While I know they are trying to engineer player behavior by making people grind different things to play all the content....in the long term the ultimate truth is fun. If players are not having fun they will find it elsewhere regardless of how much behavioral engeneering you put in the game.

That said, there were some very solid improvements to the rep grind that I found most welcome. No more wasting play time buying commodities and love for alts. Lets face it...more we play our alts..more cash for pwe. Of course at some point...there has to be a ceiling on reps....where does that end?

Also...season 8 is lacking in story, but not without some merits content wise. Nice combo of solo daily activity and group play. Think you either get into the ground dino hunt or not...if you do....you're ok with season 8. If you hate the dino hunt...the rest of the season's content won't hold you over.

Everyone boredom threshold is different, and you don't have to do it. You only get new gear and powers to make the game even easier, but if you only have one character then the grind is pretty easy, especially compared to many games.

The dyson one can be done by commendations only and that like 10-15 minutes a day and it will be done in a couple of months of effort tops.

But again if you're bored then don't do it. Nothing bad will happen.

i never do the grinding unless it is worth it, im not jumping through hundreds of hoops. when the winter event comes, undoubtedly there will likely be a 1000 Q autograph to each of the Chel-grett and the yet unknown ship on display which would be worth it the same with digging through the snow for fluff content, why? because it is once a year and stuff you would not find anywhere else really.

as for general grinding, i won't touch and it is as simple as that.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Bastardly hard content requires top end gear. Great for people who can afford it or already have it. Great for gear sellers. Not so great for casual players.

Smarter AI in the mobs instead of heavy-hitting hit-point mountains (like say, the Mature Mugatu you now face in "Coliseum" or a Borg Cube) is a much better route to take. The Mogai used TT to rotate their shields when you depleted. D'deirdex would hull heal. I haven't seen them do this in a while.

It took longer and you had to adjust your tactics. And you could do it with the white gear available to everyone. That's what the goal should be instead of "Bastardly hard content". High end gear should just be to make you more effective at it.

Regardless, anyone who's bored with the game should go find something else to do with their time other than trying to convince the rest of the players to go with them. These sorts of threads are just "I quit" threads without any sort of courage.

I don't mind grinding if it's an interesting and fun process. STO is usually varied enough to keep me from getting bored. However, I would love to see more feature episodes and new kinds of content to help mask that grind.

People complain about grinding but at the same time when an MMO lessons said grind they also lesson the amount of players that play and pay for their game.

Thus making the case for dungeon type runs and fleet raids.. I'd much rather win my loot through defeating end bosses over paying for it via rep grind.

If you had twenty player non public queue space/ground raids, it would not only give fleets more of a reason to exist beyond fleet rep grinding, but would also encourage some fleet consolidation.

The games only bright spot for me is the Foundry. I would have quit a long time ago. Even still i don't login that much. But i come back to see the new stuff. Everyone know how i feel about the direction that pw/cryptic are taking the game. I keep coming back hoping for change. But i get it. Its a business, they want to milk every dime they can out of a hardcore fan base of a great ip. This may be the last time i come back. The game is losing its fun factor because of company running it.

yes the grind sucks, but they gotta keep ya comin back some how. It's the tried and true method that does not require a lot of effort from developers.
