Carrier pets

I am not that new but still quite confused about carrier pets and which are the best ones to have, I am a fed player engineer and was using the catian but then moved to the obelisk because of it being a more engineer type of carrier.

I use a double set of the scorpion elite fighters because they were the easiest ones to get hold of, I am not in a large fleet and thus do not have access to most of the other elite versions.

I mostly 99% of the time PVE so what am I missing out on and is there any other types available without being in a tier 5 fleet ?

While the Scorpion elite do a nice amount of damage against slow moving targets I have notices that anything that has any kind of speed can avoid the shower of plasma torpedo from the fighters.

Scorpions are the best unless you have a ship that can use a frigate-class pet.

Some tricks: Pets do NOT benefit from your damage buffs or your tactical consoles.

Pets DO benefit from enemy -resistance. So use disruptor weapons, science powers, and attack pattern beta. As a bonus, any team mates also benefit from enemy -resistance.

If the enemy is escaping from your pets, use tractor beam (and add the doff that gives you a -shield proc), eject warp core, target engines, gravity well, and other powers to slow and hold.

Scorpions ad swarmers are fragile. So if you have a tank-built carrier, you can pull agro onto yourself to help them survive. Unfortunately the warp-core explosions will still butcher your lil guys. The embassy consoles with +threat and some of your character skills help with that. The Obelisk is a pretty good tanking carrier.

There's a nice space trait that helps your pets rank up faster, I think you can buy it on the auctionhouse for 1 million ec or so. I believe it's called wingman or something.

As gavinruneblade pointed out, the elite scorps are probably the best pet you're going to see for PvE with the ships you own.

However, you don't need to be in a Tier 5 fleet to get access to elite pets. You just need to have access to starbase provisions and an invitation to a T5 base map. NoP Public Service is a fine place to get a free invite. (I sometimes liked to mix scorpions and yellowstones when I was doing Borg missions - the yellowstones locked stuff down, increasing the effectiveness of the scorpion HY torps.)

Wing Commander. It was 8 mil or so, last I checked. I use it on my Recluse pilot, and it's handy if you're a dedicated carrier fan. (I think it's a lot more useful if you can get frigate class pets, though - 5 star scorpions die about as fast as 0 star ones.)

Thank you for the advice, I did notice how fragile my scorpions were, managed to get my hands on a Jem dread carrier today I really like it for some reason :)

I love everything carrier related so I may end up with a collection.

Trying to find out which Federation carriers can use the frig size pets.

I just read up on the yellowstone time to look into how to get them!

Fed-wise, your only frigate options are Tholian Mesh Weavers (which require, and can only be used on, the Tholian Recluse Carrier) and Jem'Hadar Attack Ships (which require, and can only be used, the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier. They also require owning the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship escort).

I have a great "flight deck dreadnought warbird cuiser" in mind :D I already gave you a hint in my mashup. Unfortuantely this ship is locked to Romulans only. The Scimitar Dreadnought Warbird. I comes with one hangar but it has access to frigates, and one of the best in game mind you! :P http://sto.gamepedia.com/Hangar_-_Advanced_Romulan_Drone_Ship

These will out DPS your puny little Scorpion Spam-O-Balls with ease. :)

NO NO NO!!! No your making me watch the Doctor. Who Trailer again! Stop it, it makes me cry everytime because they release it after two months of the trailer release.

On a side note you should have bought the Tholian Recluse instead if you wanted good frigates. :)

Well looks like I will explore frigates with my klingon character because options available on the federation side are limited.

I actually quite enjoy the Jem Dread will probably just mix up the fighters a little.

In short... Carriers are practically useless as a carrier for any of Season 8.

Reason: The Voth spam FaW like nobody's business.... making any non-frigate pet practically dead on launch....

But there's still the use for them in other end-game content... Such as all other PVE content....

We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

its actually the refracto shields you got to worry about. i havent seen Voth Spam FAW at all, they have the refractor shields and the little AoE sphere thing.

Pets don't come out of the hangar firing..... refractive shielding has no effect on them dying before they even begin an attack run....

Also it's not the cruiser(Aceton drone) that's the biggest issue... it's the Palisade frigs that make the Latinum Party Ball look like a non-combat pet....

I've never encountered pets dying as they are laumnched unless i dropped them enxt to ships that were exploding. other than acetone drones and exploding ships, i've never seen my swarmers die en mass.

Maybe the Swarmers have more starting hull and shields than the Elite Slavers and Elite Scorpion Fighters.... because I lose them to mass swarms of Palisade frigs who do have FaW....

because that is the only thing that'd also explain their ability to insta-pop my Romulan Heavy Plasma Torps when I launch them too. :/

I also have the 3 Peice Advanced Obelisk set, and regularly run EPTS or EPTW, so they might only be fawing when i pop EPTS so i really dont notice it.
