Star Wars Has gotten an official release date: December 18th, 2015.

Think they can get it done by then, and be good?

It'd be better than any of the prequels, that's for sure.

On the contrary, I think JJA will do much better job of Star Wars then he did with Trek.

That said I am kind of worried as to the overall quality of the movie. I can't help but feel they want to just churn them out without any desire to maintain quality.

Two years is plenty since they're already heavily into the writing process.

I'll be happy if Abrams is forced to tone down his particular cinematic style, aka Massive Lens-flare in every shot. The lens-flare is really my biggest problem with his work, and my only real problem with the Abrams-Trek was that he wanted to make Star Wars films which he is finally doing!

Because every time they built one in space, some farm kid or smuggler would come along and blow it up!

I'm surprised they aren't doing a summer release though. Am I alone in that?

Not surprised really.. I am cautious about this one as the prequels soured me and the Blu Ray revisions to Return of the Jedi (one notorious offending scene near the end ) just made me mad.

I hated the prequel trilogy.Jar Jar, and Manakin and all the plot loopholes that contradicted the first three ruined it. Return of the Jedi was entertaining, but the Hi Tech Empire getting taken down by a pack of Muppets armed with rocks, and sticks, and a group of rowdy flying teenagers just left me flat. Oddly I did enjoy the Clone Wars animated series.

I think Abrams has the ability to make a good Star Wars movie. God Knows Lucas hasn't in almost 30 years.

And people who hate JJ Abrams but love Star Wars will buy a ticket to see it just so they can hate it afterwards.

Stay away from "Firefly" and "Serenity", then (both of which I like alot). They have lens flares in them.

In an interview about a year ago, Abrams acknowledged his addiction to lens flares, and that they can be problematic sometimes.

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem...

...and the 2nd step is to QUIT DOING IT.

Here's hoping JJ gets a sponsor.

Two years is plenty of time to build a concrete anti-flame war bunker.

Nah.. I felt Abrams was a better fit for Star Wars than Star Trek to be honest. Besides I dislike the screenwriters of those reboot films more than Abrams.

Just remember to kill all the woodland creatures that reside around it to avoid a Ewok muppet ambush...M'kay.Ewoks...Ewoks are bad M'kay.;)

I think JJ will be excellent for Star Wars more than he did for Trek.

Luke I can see returning as a grizzled bearded Yoda-type character. He's now the head of the Jedi Order and the younger jedi are in awe of him in the same way he was a little in awe of Yoda. We also get to see why you don't mess with the Skywalker, got to be in at least one battle and show just how powerful he is in the force. (Like crack a small moon open or something amazing!)

Han is still the rogue he always is but runs the Solo household while his wife is a senator in the New Republic.

Leia, sorry Carrie but the drugs don't work. Not even the force can help you... a paper bag perhaps. :P
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo... :D

Doesn't make a big difference. Christmas time can be just as big business as the summer. Ask Peter Jackson and James Cameron.

But as I recall the summer 2015 was already jam packed full of stuff, probably including a few other films from disney.

Not for Star Wars. Their X-mas time releases are not so good. Sort of the same as the every other Trek legend. Plus SW would be able to compete in that summer market by the sheer SW fans alone. And ask others about summer.

I haven't been to a movie theater in years. I leave it up to the commercials to tell me what it's going to be like.

Trailers more or less show you the entire movie as it is, these days. They consist entirely of the awesome parts of the movie pasted together and you pay for a movie ticket to see all the filler material in between them.

JJ the destroyer of worlds. Will planets be used as fireworks to support the "plot" this time? And will there be more secret references to brew, lurking in the background? The suspence!

Might pass on this one. Alternatively, might be excellent to watch while drunk. ;)

Ehh.. I think he's already made a couple of SW films in Trek clothes. Seriously, I thought future San Francisco looked just like Coruscant. Especially the Spock vs. JJ Khan fight scene.
