STO needs a save/load ship tray layout function

The latest Feature Episode where we get to control the Obelisk Carrier is a fine example for this, there were already similar missions before and it would be a useful feature in general.

I would really love to load/save different BOFF skill/layout arrangements instead of having to rearrange everything all the time or play with a mostly randomly arranged mess of skills like yesterday when commanding the Obelisk.

Often it is enough to delete or buy a new ship to mess up the tray on some or all your ships, being able to save/load layouts would also be some kind of fix for this long standing issue of STO.

I use multiple ships depending on what I am doing. Just changing ships causes a major headache as the trays reset randomly. I hope they do find a way to fix this and the save tray layout would be a great addition!

yes this is one of those derp things that should have been implemented in the same year the game was released...

I cant believe its almost 4 years in, and we still don't have this feature..

Agreed - I've gotten to the point where I don't even arrange my trays anymore beyond "shove all my captain abilities to the left side so their near my boff stuff" since it's all going to be messed up the moment I change ships.

    I concur.

Tis most definitely annoying, especially when re-running the Sphere of Influence.

    Cheers.

Yea but heres the thing, The more time I spend resetting the tray, the more time I have to think about why I am spending money on a game that I have to reset the tray on every hour or so. So the LESS money I am willing to spend.....

You could not be more wrong. I spend LESS time playing because of this issue. For example: I get home from work and want to mess around in my escort, but wait I was playing my jem dred last and I don't want to rearrange skills. So I don't log on and play something else.

I only have 2 ships that I play. Jem dread and andorian escort. I also have a good job and money to throw at games.

Having to fix trays is a major turnoff for me to fly more than one ship. If I could save trays I would in a heartbeat buy an Avenger, Vesta, Oddy and Gal-X. Would also want a Wells and Recluse.

I am sure I am not the only one with this mindset. The tray reset problem is losing them potential money from players like me.

    ^^ This. In its entirety.

After long experience with this, I came to the conclusion that this is likely a lag issue. As in: if the Cryptic server can't retrieve your tray layout fast enough, it start filling and making stuff up on the spot. The really bad part is, that it then reports your current 'Last known TRIBBLE' tray layout as being your new one, and you're perma-hosed as a result.

This is one of those issues that a dev spending, what, 5 minutes on, could easily solve; but oh noes, we need to attract new customers at all cost, above fixing things! /sarcasm

Been hoping for such a function for years now. So tired of switching ships and my UI being messed up every single time. :(

I don't have any issues. I switch between my regent and odyssey cruisers all the time, and each time I do, all my trays are exactly as I left them, and my bridge officers even switch automatically if I was using different ones. I notice that the only time this doesn't happen is if you dischartge a ship and buy it again.

Then you, sir, have an unbelievably fortuitous bug. I just switched ships to the last one I used and, yeah, my boffs were in the right stations - but their abilities were all over the place (I didn't want to deal with it so I logged out and found this thread). Just switching a boff on an existing ship means I'm playing the 'Where's EPtS?' game. I even went so far as to keep switching an ensign Eng back and forth, putting the abilities where I wanted them, and it still didn't work. Consider yourself envied. :)

Save/load ship hotbar layout (with a Clear All feature, please) would be a huge QoL improvement. Considering me signed.

And now it's gotten so bad that just the act of LOOKING at my other ships in the ship selector will cause my Space Skill Tray to drop skills / randomize. I don't even change my ship, just look at my current ships... it's really bad and annoying, and definitely a determent to getting more ships.

Totally agree with this suggestion. Having the tray change every time I switch ship is a major pain in the neck.

I would love to see this. Even if it is just two layouts. One for shuttle and one for a main ship. It gets old having to swap stuff around every time I want to use my shuttle. I don't fly it often because of this issue.

So i guess that the funny tray keeps being rearranged all time is not just my problem?

i really hate it, that when i have my tray arranged the way i like it, the autothingy just pops new abilites in there i really don't want to have there...

or am i just missing kind of an option in the options?

it's not that easy to find a way thru this ;D

While you work on that, can you put seatbelts on my Boff stations so they can't run off between leaving ESD and warping into a mission?

And this is part of the reason why I don't like switching ships....

I found the one ship I like, and clung to it for dear life. Simply because experimenting with different ships means resetting my power bar every single time.

Even making new toons it takes me hurs to get my UI and chat just right, and then I have to set up my power bars to something that makes since???

Nope. Rather just play away on my Maxed out Fed/sci toon and not spend any money on new ships.

Seriously, even if it were a client side txt file your client can save on your hard drive, that would be an improvement.

It's a problem for everyone. Underlying problem tho, I think, is how the trays are handled (yes, they're kept stored) - they're likely indexed by not ship name, but by order they're in the list... add/discharge a ship and all TRIBBLE break loose, once again. And as it goes, renaming a ship has effect on the order too, unless for some reason the ships keep themselves in same alphabetical order after rename.

    God yes!
I'd like to play around in my cruiser, or one of my escorts, but touching them means that I have to replace everything again. My solution's been to switch ships by switching characters, which is really suboptimal.

It is too much trouble changing ships, Cryptic would make more money if people flying escorts would consider buying that new cruiser etc, but they won't because they have to respec everything. And, if they don't like the cruiser, they have to respec back to their escorts build. I wish we could save skill set ups as different templates, so that we can fly a new ship every day without ad hour of respeccing every time.

It was asked for and commented on MANY times in the 2009 STO closed beta phase. IMO, it is a BADLY needed function for those that like to switch ships a lot.

[That said, it appears they can't even fix some of the new UI bugs that came with LOR - like many times one or more of ship 'Station' slots of the character window becoming empty on a map transfer (space or ground); and if you happen to be on the ground when the game have made every single slot empty, when you beam back up, all your Boff assignments are gone and need to be redone.

They say it's "hard to replicate" - but I see one (or more) ship 'Stations' slots empty on a character EVERY TIME I map transfer (and in talking with Fleetmates, I'm not unique in this) - so, either QA is overloaded and not playing real close attention; or because it only causes a major issue if all your slots are cleared (and that doesn't happen often) - they don't consider it worth the programming time it might take to correct.

(BTW - On the ground, as long a one slot is filled, if you then click on an empty slot, the game will auto-refill the 'station' slots properly, until the next time you map transfer, but it is annoying to have to check that every time before a beam up.)

And before anyone asked, yes, I've /bugged this issue MANY times. Since there's been no change, I can only imagine either again, they don't find it a major enough issue to devote more programming time to fix; or they can't figure out HOW to fix it.]
