T5- Dreadnought or T'Varo?

To give you an idea of my play style, my main is a fed engineer in an escort. My Klingon toon in an engineer in a BoP. I'm loving the warbirds on my Romulan, even if they don't turn as well as my Defiant-R.

I've bought C-Store ships as I leveled and bought the new Ar'kala when I got to Commander. It's not as pretty as the D'deridex I flew on tribble, but it's fun to fly.

Now that I've hit VA I'm trying to decide what T5 ship to get The dreadnoughts seem to do a sick amount of damage in ESTFs and they look cool. But, if I get the T'Varo retrofit I will get the 2-piece console set. Plus, my Rom is a Fed Rom who will join my fed f leet. IIRC there is a Fleet T'Varo that is very similar to my Fed's trusty fleet Defiant.

What do you guys think?

The Scimitar slaughters everything in its path, there's absolutely no denying that. If you want top DPS numbers and brutally short missions, the Scimitar is king. But for fun, the T'varo, especially with LtCmdr Sci, is just a laugh to fly. APO3/APB3 + GW1 + Spread3 + Destabilized Torpedo is just hilarious in a crowded environment. Based on how you've described yourself, I'd go with the T'varo.

I think the t'varo is one of the best ships in the game. The lt com spot can make the ship sci, eng, or tac heavy. I would recommend using plasmonic leech if you are able to get it.

My vote would be the T'varo too ... while it's small and fragile it does some massive damage ... it's good for giggles when facing against cruisers :D

Actually when I can swing it for my Tactical Romulan toon, I want the Ar'Kif Tactical carrier. It looks like a hard hitting beast plus being able to drop some pets, icing on the cake.

Good ambush ship from what it looks like then maybe a tad bit of sustainability with dropping fighters in to help.

I forgot about the Ar'kif. I've never flown a carrier- although the Armitage looks cool. I think I'm leaning towards the T'varo. Although if Santa is nice to me I might get the dreadnought bundle for my Reman and try both.

    Thanks for the replies.

My science captain flies a T'Varo.
I'll still be flying it when/if we ever get a dedicated T5 science ship, it's that much fun.

I agree, everyone should at least try it. Sure, my Torp'varo dies once in awhile, but it is a challenge, and wow, can it dish out the plasma balls. I finally rearranged my boffs and got Tyken's and GW slotted in.

I still love the Ar'kala and will probably spring for the Ar'kif-R eventually for some variety, but the Big Red Ball'o'Death is just too much fun to do without. :)

I've got the scimi 3 pack and the zen + fleet t'varo, and I have more fun in the t'varo.

(The Scimitar is more powerful - really can't argue with the results - but the t'varo is just a joy to fly, especially with a full plasma or transphasic torpedo loadout, and the red ball of doom is definitely more useful and fun than the thalaron pulse.)

    Additional data point:
Girlfriend's got an Ar'kif, and loves it. She seems to be doing pretty well in eSTFs with trash/pre-rep gear. I still say the T'varo is better if you don't mind being one-shotted every so often, though.

Yeah, My Torp'Varo is sooooo much fun to fly. :) MY main 3 are a T'Varo, a D'Deridex, and a Mogai. My D'D is a beast, my Mogai is good, but the most fun is the T'Varo. It's just something that plays in such an interesting way.

My rom tac uses the Fleet D'Deridex and the Fleet T'varo both are awesome. I bought the c-store T'varo so my sci uses it too, wicked little torpedo boat, I even bought the Tier-1 ship for the 2-piece consoles.

    Scimitar is just wrong

One thing that i like about my Scimitar is i can fly it like an Escort or a Cruiser. The 5 and 3 weapon slots means you can put DHCs up front and turrets in the back or you can put 6-8 BAs on it and broadside. The turn rate might be a bit slow for PVP, but i'm just guessing since i dont PVP here. PVE is predictable though since most of the time you know where you have to be and when you have to be there.

I mostly PVE so unless the team doesnt know what they are doing the turn rate doesnt affect me much. My routine is mostly pre-planned and i am able to do my thing by myself, though one other person with me helps out a lot. In exchange for turn rate i gain a few minor things.

    1 extra weapon slot
    2 extra device slots
    extra hull
    extra shields
1 less eng console but two more tac consoles
    1 pet hangar

The boff stations are also identical except for the ensign slot. Scimitars ensign boff slot is universal but in the Tvaro it is a tac slot. And both get the same LCdr universal slot and the rest are the same. I might get a Tvaro retrofit eventually just so i can try some in close cloak/hit and run to see if that makes me a bit more effective in PVE. I just started elites and sometimes i derp it up with the gateways or i get to close to the cubes in Cure. I think it's mostly pet aggro that gets transferred to me though so i've been putting them away in Cure.
