I think this is a great idea! ... I can use the time during the "strategy" briefing to get a beer and roll a fatty!

Whatever gets us to the finish line I suppose... I must say that I am a little dismayed by how few responses this thread has drawn in comparison to its psycho-rant counterparts about throwing people out for not being up to the standards of some of the most loathsome personalities STO has to offer.

Hey, glad you bumped it at the start of the weekend, maybe people will read it before the" people I hate-should be excluded-should be punished-are ruining my STF experience" threads start.Hopefully some CONSTRUCTIVE feedback can be made.I support your plan, because Its fair minded, and I cannot find a flaw in your reasoning for this.:)

One question from a guy who's done about a dozen KAs and almost a handful of Infecteds on "normal", enough to land the EDCs to get the Retro Borg set with only looting one EDC...

Where we gonna ensure that we get a "knowledgeable" player that'll know the plan and be able to explain it in ~60 sec?

Only once in that handful of infecteds did I get a guy that even tried to get people onto the 10% nanite plan, though the "you need leet DPS crowd" in there was blowing transformers in the time it took him to say "don't take one below 10%" in open chat... Luckily for the two of us I saw the "need a Sci to help with GW / TB on healers" type post he made so that I could go assist, and we somehow pulled off the optional... I have yet to do a KA in which the team followed the "take one side to 10% gateway then work other side so we can pop both gateways without seeing a sphere" plan, even when I "offered" to go camp an empty side in my Sci that can handle the pre-detonation 3 probe groups no problem, because I hadn't let a probe by while all 4 of them are off nuking the other side... Only optionals I've ever gotten in KA is when I was "allowed" to do probe duty on a side, and after they blew the "far from me" gate, 3 of them had the DPS to level the 2nd gate, while the 4th covered spheres and I covered probes...

And I'm not 100% certain that putting a "plan" into this briefing window will work, because they'll be arguments over the effectiveness of that "plan" - I've been in KAs where one guy's escort is good enough to handle both probe trains solo by the time gate, while other groups need a Sci/carrier guy handling only one trains worth of probes each...

Well, the 60 second figure was just something I threw out there as how long it would take if everyone already knew what to do, to say it wouldn't be a major delay if it wasn't an issue. I imagine it could take 2 or 3 minutes if you needed to actually explain it.

Yes, there would be occasions when someone would be argumentative but it would be a far better situation in general. There really only IS 1 plan per STF and my experience (have done some 500 elite space STFs) is that new players WILL listen 80 to 90% of the time. If they won't, you at least know that going in and can bail before it starts and gets your blood-pressure up into the stratosphere.

I do not presume to have a fix-all strategy here, only an idea that will greatly improve the overall situation. Also, as I mentioned before, making the PUG games a little easier is really just a secondary concern for me. My primary goal in this is to improve the social situation and create an environment where the STF crowd get to meet each other, even if briefly, and do some networking. This will facilitate a lot more private groups which is also go for all concerned.

    Adsolutely correct on all points.

Leave the public ques for the newbs to frustrate themselves long enough to learn how to get with the program and learn to appreciate the value of the private chat rooms available in the elite stf channel.

I did nothing but private ques when I started playing and it was agravating and frustrating. When I got fed up with it I found the elite stf channel and its been smooth sailing ever since.

Once in awhile newbs shows up in an elite stf private room and get agravated that we are taking our time hashing things out and they just leave the room with no explanation. Good riddence. Lets them go back to the public ques where they belong.

It takes very little time to pick your spots the problem is people who don't know the mission are going into the elite cue. Stay out of the elites if you don't know how to do them. There are enough instructional posts in forums to read before you ever hit the elite cue.

This thread died in May 2012. Why couldn't you let it rest in peace?
You're right. The work here is very important.

I was thinking the very same thing. Perhaps they needed a zombie for upcoming Halloween?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
