If anything it's BOFF layout is a direct copy of the Regent.
Only now the Universal Lt you use for a Sci on the Regent has been swapped to a Universal you'll use for an Engineer on the Avenger.
Yes I know you don't need to seat those BOFFs in those seats on those ships. But generally people feel the need to seat them that way.
If you don't like a ship don't buy it. This thing can work just as well with 7 beams and a KCB as the Regent does. But it is the first Federation DHC Cruiser. It is essentially a Federation Tor'kaht.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
The Boff seating is basically a fckn copy of the excelsior, and from the romulan warbird debacle we have learned that dual cannon on a tugboat serve no purpose - and that is with romulans getting massive turnrate buffs...
So, you see you are about to buy a Galaxy x v2. With the same problems. And even more unsightly. ^^
Dont load it with all dhc/dc's, have the four guns you'd put on Excel' or Regent and have a DHC for opportunity fire.
Its about freaking time that we Starfleet types stop trying to use exploration vessels to fight and start getting our hands on actual warships. As far as the game lore is concerned, the Avenger class is the only other REAL warship that Starfleet has other than the Defiant class. And it only took, what? a war with the Klingons, an invasion by the Borg, skirmishes with the Breen, terrorist attacks from the True Way, incursions by the Tal Shiar, a surprise attack on DS9 by Jem'hadar that were lost in time, infiltrations by 8472, the Remans messing with Thalaron weapons, a plot by the Devidians to suck the life from the past, and oh yes, the looming threat of the Iconians. Did I miss anything? Using a fleet of science and exploration vessels is like bringing a taser to a gun fight... not very smart. Hopefully this will not be the last REAL warship we feds get. I hope to see more, heavier warships in sto's future, IE: battleships.
after seeing it in-game (being right next to one in my engs sovereign and being able to adjust my camera a bit to where it looked like I was flying it :P.....the pics from tribble/redshirt made it look ALOT bigger....but i actually like the size of it as it is in game...and surprisingly the style of how it looks, though the fleet version (back end) is a little.....to flat and low, though it it was bumped up then it would look (imo) a bit better with the flat nacelles option

Those exploration vessels are equally capable of fighting a war than any battlecruiser is. The reason this game got this atrocity is, however, that people don't feel like it's "cool enough" to fight with Explorers. You need SS-like uniforms, edgy and dark painted hulls and a designation like "Tactical Warcruiser of Battledread" before you dare to tell people what you are playing. That's the only reason, really
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
The ship is not as sleek and graceful as say the Vesta or the Excelsior but if you pay attention to the design you will see that it has armor placed in areas to guard vital ship systems. Look at the 2 raised fins that run along the Eng section. You'll see the Warp core and Impuse manifolds tucked in between them. Also you can see the reinforced Neck and Warp pylons. Also the Nacells have armor plating and heat dissipation fins as well. Is she Ugly? Yes but I can see the logic in her design as a warship. She needed to have vital sections hidden from direct weapon fire. An enemy would need to get behind and above and line-up straight to get a direct shot at her warp core. The C-Store version with the up-swept Nacelle pylons gives the ship added protection to the Eng section from a broadside. You can see the extra hull plating and thickness of the support pylons to act as shielding to the ships critical components. I prefer the Fleet version much better with the horizontal pylons. It exposes the ship more but in game none of what im saying even matters but it just looks so much better.
That got me thinking. Wouldent it make PVP and PVE really cool and challenging if you actually had to hit your targets warp core or bridge? If you actually took damage to the areas where you were actually shot? Say there was a little target window on your hud with a image of your targets ship and you would select the area you wanted to hit. So say you could actually blast off someone's warp nacelle. Or like a headshot in a 1st person shooter you could target the bridge and if you it it then the ship is dead?
So like now if you choose "beam target weapons" the target actually would have to be physically oriented to where your beams could hit thier primary weapons array. Just like on old Star Wars games where you actually had to blow up the targets shield generators or target the Ion cannons to take them out. I think it would add much needed depth to the game.
Is it worth getting the C-Store version for the special VATA console? The fleet version of the ship is better. Has anyone tested the VATA console and can say how much more damage it does?

I have. Can't give numbers on damage but the shield debuff from tachyon VATA can be helpful.
I bought the C-Store one, then a fleet module and put the VATA on the Fleet Avenger.

Tell that to Captain Keogh of the USS Odyssey. He tried to use a GCS in the TNG-typical "send a big multirole ship to show the flag and intimidate the enemy" mode of thought against the Jem'Hadar. The Jems half-destroyed his ship with no casualties at all, then rammed him when he was retreating just to prove a point.

Good point and very true. I'm starting to think that at least some of these guys are running a whisper campaign to keep Federation ships weak and flavorless, the Avenger-class being a perfect example. Any suggestion that the Avenger needs a serious buff to live up to its billing are met with the same tired BS that all such ideas illicit here: "Noooo, it just needs a good pilot! (giggle)" or "They CAN'T make it any more powerful because (stupid reason of choice)." or my personal favorite "In the name of God no, not until they make more free Klingon ships!"
At the very LEAST proven ownership of a ship should be verified, or visibly displayed, before someone can flap their jibs about what a ship needs or doesn't need.
As it is right now, the (fleet) Avenger is just another slow, underpowered cruiser with better survivability and a so-so console. This condition is something I'll sadly have to factor in before I pop for another Federation ship that has "battle" as part of its name.

Aren't you forgetting a tiny detail? Like that at the time Polaron weapons were unknown to Starfleet and went right through their shields? Even a battleship would have been in trouble without shields.

I'm pretty sure they only destroyed the Odyssey to prove how tough the Jem'Hadar where.
The Defiant was one shotting them a few episodes later.
Plot devices are not a good source of statistics.

Not much, just some 50 years of Star Trek, but no biggie.

seems REALLY off-topic to me is all :P
They have warp nacelles, a saucer, deflector dish, and USS in front of their names.
