DEVS - Please give us an answer

mattjohnsonvamattjohnsonva Member Posts: 4,974 Arc User
For the longest time we have been hearing about an updated Galaxy-X with saucer separation, even before fleet ships were available. Since then the clamour for an improved Galaxy Ship of each variant has been growing. Not a day hardly goes by that we don't see a new post somewhere on the forum showing up asking for a better Galaxy.

Clearly this is a ship that many people want to fly understandably, it has won the hearts of many Trekkies and it desperately needs an update.

However even in the largest thread on these forums about the Galaxy Class Ships I don't believe I have seen a single DEV response. How can this be? We are holding a poll on our fleet forum and the overwhelming vote is for a new and improved Galaxy, talking to people in the game the response is the same and yet so far the DEVs remain silent.

Please can a DEV answer the question, will there be upgrades to the complete Galaxy class of ships or will it only be for the Dreadnought? If so when?

Although I agree that a dev response would be nice to hear, I don't think that this particular thread is really gonna help.

Last I saw, they were having issues with the saucer clipping the middle nacelle on the gal x. That was a while ago though.

Just release the ruddy thing now, and worry about some clipping issue later. It sounds like the biggest excuse for having not actually done anything towards this ship.

I dont know why they wouldn't just fly past and come in from the front, slide the nacelle a little back.

But it would be nice if one of those lovely upstanding game developers popped in adn gave us an answer.

I know they wont, for the simple reason of you cannot please everyone and they are avoiding prebacklash.

But it kind of drives me nuts that they pop in 2-3 times on nosensical and/or random threads, "listen" about the brand new ar'kif, but pushing close to 4k replies on ONE single thread not a peep. a Dev could simply just pop in and say literally...

    Hi,
I have read this thread and i am glad you all support the Galaxy and Cruisers in general. We are working on making them more viable and unique as we speak. We cannot provide you with details yet, but within the next [blank] to [blank] weeks/months you will be seeing some new things on tribble with the regular server getting them shortly thereafter.

    You're Welcome

That is all i ask. Frankly they can copy and paste exactly what i wrote inserting the time frame in the blanks. The galaxy guys just want some acknowlegement.

Big whoop. We in the KDF talk endlessly about what the KDF faction needs, and has needed for some time now, and very rarely do we get a response.

Now that the Federation are suddenly not having their every demand addressed, it's suddenly a problem when devs don't respond. Heh.

    Get used to it.

That's exactly my point of view.

But i think it depends on who make a thread and what people are regular visiting a thread. The devs seem to be somehow choosy.

I have seen threads named like "@devs look at my new Defiant painting", receiving a instand reply by a dev. On the other hand other threads never even get noticed by Cryptics devs.
That's no criticism, but it makes you think about their priorities...

They know, they know we want the Galaxy. I know they are finding the right time to release it. And one dev said before, they don't always reply simply because of the flak it would generate no matter what they say.

And frankly, I want it to be OP as hell for the compensation. Coming after Romulans, I think that's possible, given the kind of toys that can be mounted on it. :P

The Galaxy is coming, just that there's no politically correct way of saying it.

As capnshadow27 said, there are other random threads getting dev responses without ppl storming Cryptics HQ. I mean a simple and friendly "We are on it, we haven't forgotten you guys" is too much to ask for?

Of course we can't dictate Cryptics devs where to respond and what thread is more important than another, but come on guys....

They said the fleet galaxy x wasn't gonna come out till saucer Sep was ready and I want a fleet one now. In addition they said last year the they were working on the clipping issues but its been a year and I don't know what it takes but I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a year to fix one clipping problem and besides many of us don't care about the clipping we just want it now and the fix can come later if ever.

There are currently four versions of the Galbatross in the game. There are only two versions of the Star Cruiser. The Star Cruiser needs an upgrade first.

    Parity for Star Cruisers NOW!

Sorry I don't remember watching a Star Cruiser for 7 years on TNG or in any of the TNG movies, I don't see the Star Cruiser on any of STO's adverts, it's a bland and very boring ship, even the fleet version is pretty meh. If you like it that's fine but the cacophony of voices calling for something to be done about one of the most loved ships in Trek cannot be ignored for much longer.

I agree T5 constitution class ship we want it now!!!, we will no longer take it sitting down, the most iconic trek ship, in and out of Star Trek. ;)

Althrough the (original) STO Star Cruiser could use a science BOFF upgrade, it is still playable and a good tank. The GCS is neither.
As mattjohnsonva said Cryptic isn't ashamed of putting the GCS in every commercial and put the GCS siluette as the symbol for THE starfleet ship par excellence.

I am all for giving the Star Cruiser a bit more "sciency" but the GCS has much bigger problems.

    Nice try, lol.
But the Constitution isn't a regular ship in Starfleet anymore, nor it is totally outgunned by its precursors like the GCS in STO (Excelsior, Ambassador) or other clearly inferior ships (galor) of its time.

The single most loved ship in all of Star Trek is the Constitution class from the real TV series. The cacophony of whining for yet another Galbatross variant is exactly the same as all of the requests for a T5 Constitution and CBS should give you exactly the same response they have given to all true Star Trek fans.

The Star Cruiser is not only the sexiest cruiser in the entire game it is also the most 25th century looking cruiser in the game. Meanwhile, the Galbatross is the most ungainly looking starship to ever appear in any TV show or movie. Every time I see one of those monstrosities I throw up a little in my mouth.

You would think that after 4 years people would realize that Cryptic does what it wants to do at the pace it wants to do it. Heck, it took them 3 years to get the Ambassador into the game, and it was an Enterprise. :)

Is Cryptic going to update the Gal-X? Yes, when they feel like getting around to it - which means after new things that people can spend money on get put into the game. Cryptic has the data on how many people have a Gal-X and how many people use a Gal-X. They already have a very good idea where the market is for a Fleet version, and I'm sure they know there are other ships that can make them more money first. So it's a waiting game; much like with the KDF and their demand for ships.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

It could also be in a state of flux like how the Android BOff was for a while (the dev responsible for it had a severe medical issue at the time). Then suddenly, WHAM, there was Android BOffs for both genders and science/tactical in addition to the existing engineering one.

Also, it's not even 9AM in the Cryptic office yet (as of this post). Let their coffee pot have time to brew first >_>.

This has been answered in various podcast interviews.

Short version it is being worked on 'apparently' the saucer sep casues some graphical issues they haven't resolved yet.

I agree though, which ships are being introduced as fleet versions (those not yet done) and a release date.

The Gal-x and Dk'yer some obvious to be missing from the fleet list.

IMHO work has been shunted from these projects to the Romulan ships released and the Klingon Ship being worked on. I can only hope they are before season 8.

I think they should release the Galaxy for the new age - 2 modern versions of the Galaxy class

    - The Explore (with saucer separation)
    - The Dreadnaught (with spiral lance)

These abilities are not console based but inherent other than that the looks have changed to a bit more modern but still recognizable as being based of the Galaxy.

Making the abilities inherent bypasses the problem of having saucer separation on a dreadnaught - which is a bit silly anyway since a dread does not look like it was ever built for saucer separation.

in the end everybody gets what they want.

    Hey if you don't ask.......

Actually, your chances are better if you don't ask. :P Seriously, any post starting with "DEVS: please, answer!" or something similar, is guaranteed not to get a dev reply. If and when a dev chooses to reply, he will do so because he feels so inclined, and not because it is 'demanded' of him -- however friendly worded. Because then they'd have to answer all of these type of posts.

Hmm problem is it's all subjective. If you look at the model makers Polar Lights and Art Asylum it's always the Enterprise ships that they concentrate their largest and most expensive models on, these are the ones that sell the most, they are THE Star Trek ships and what most people identify with when they think of ships in Star Trek. This is the reason STO and all other games use the Enterprise as their advertising models.

We are moving away from the original subject in the OP though and the question again is when is something going to be done about the Galaxy Class ships?

Most popular pre-made models are....not in any given list mind you...

    Constitution refit
    Galaxy
    JJ-Prise
    NX-01
    BoP
    Miranda class

Thats generally what i see the most in premades, like mattel and hotwheel toys.
But thats not to say those are the only ones out there, if you search hard enough you can find federation trainer models.

But back to the story and subject at hand.

Like matt said we arent asking them to hand us all the info on a silver platter. We just want them to pop in and acknowledge us. with that very simply freee to steal sentence i put on the first page.

Thats it no more than that. and if they did i would be the first to thank them providing im on the forum at that point.

You sir are delusional. Please stop snorting plasma exhaust before posting. Everyone knows that the BoP's and Warbirds are the sexiest ships in the Star Trek franchise.

The ONLY decent looking Fed ship is the Defiant. The rest of the Fed ships are uglier than Babylon 5's plucked chicken the White Star.
    *laughs hysterically*

Thanks I needed a good laugh.

Anyways, I do kinda agree. The coolest idea Perpetual had was the ship variants that had a rollbar connecting the nacelles on the top. It's a ship idea that made sense.

    The answer is no.

To be honest it looks pretty obvious to me, a rapidly growing threadnaught about this ship and nothing but silence in return. All those open Q&A questions and submitted questions about this ship either blanked, ignored or given the usual 'maybe, maybe not' runaround.

And if they came out and actually said it? People would go nuts. They could lose quite a few subscribers and the backlash on the forums and perhaps in game could be messy. So they don't say a word.

I don't write this to ridicule fans of this ship, even if to me its ugly as sin, but if I were you I'd give up on the constant asking, shouting and begging and just hope to see it someday.
