any chance for a career respec token on the cstore?

People have been asking for it for years now, even since before f2p. Would probably make quite a few sales, so im guessing the only reason it hasn't been implemented yet are technical issues?

so can we expect to ever see something like this? A purchaseable token to change our captains science/tactical/engineer specialization?

I think the reasoning around this is the same as the species respec. They claim this is too complex to implement.

However, if changing the basic profile data itself is too hard, I don't see why they couldn't just copy over all your items, accolades, statistics and whatever else onto a new character. Unless it's all terribly formatted...

Of course, I'm not really equipped to make such a judgement since I've never really seen the back ends of games such as this.
I think in conventional database terms ;)

    Space Only
    Change 5 innate abilities.

    Ground Only
    Change 5 innate abilities.
Change available Ground skills (would require a Skill reset).
    Change Kit restriction.

    Space & Ground
Change Trait restriction (would require a Trait reset).
    Change Accolade/Optional restriction.

As big a deal as is made of the Career selection (and it being subjective how important that big a deal is), overall - the Career choice is a tiny part of the overall character, eh?

In Space, Career choice restricts nothing. On Ground, it restricts Kit choice and the available Ground skills. In general, it restricts the new Career specific Traits and restricts the Accolades an individual can acquire on their own via various Optionals.

I doubt it really has anything to do with any complexity of making the change in the least, but rather it comes down to two things:

    1) Not admitting that the Careers are not balanced.
    2) Increased revenue from players running multiple Characters.

But hey, I could be wrong...

Well, crud. How am I supposed to make one of my characters the correct class now, without losing EVERYTHING? I made her a tactical officer back when the game launched, and only over a year later did I find that science fit her better. I've since acquired enough stuff with her that I can never, ever get again to completely fill a Defiant.*

Why are my only two options here either "suck it up and keep the character the same class" or "suck it up and lose everything"? Something doesn't seem right here.

It's a shame that customer service can't at least do a "once ever" per user character class change, in case something like this happens. I don't want to have to either leave her as-is or lose everything with the character that cannot be re-obtained.

*User cannot guarantee with 100% accuracy that said "stuff" will or will not completely fill a Defiant class vessel.

How do you know this character is better suited to be in a science career when she has never been a science officer? Did you sit down and talk to her one day? Did she send you a letter asking you to be reassigned?

Anything you are doing with this character you can do with another one. Be like everyone else and make another character. Myself have 30 VA's, 7 of which have all the reps completed to t5.

By the way if the above happened you may want to see a specialist.

A career swap token could easily done by combining reskill and retrait then clearing your career choice. It may seem like Cryptic is saying "We don't want your money" by not making one but in reality forcing you to create new characters makes more money in the long run because of all the character only unlocks.

    Species before career.

I am still pissed off the romulans got good stacking space traits and my main is a human that got its space trait nerfed. >=/

id love to make her a joined trill even, but alas despite owning the unlock, I cant apply it to established toons i will NEVER delete anyway.

It's not the paid unlocks that I'm concerned about. I can deal with having to pay for those again. However, all the accolades and items that were only available at certain points in time which cannot be re-acquired are what I'm concerned about.

As for the other guy, I don't feel like responding to them. By the way, isn't it against the forum rules to say or imply that someone is mental?

So you've developed your own mmo before? You know exactly what you're doing and know it better than Crpytic huh?

1st, its a horrible idea.. god, i have a ton of toons, and all of them are va and what not..

2cnd, basically, cryptic wants you to have to replay all the crappy content in the game, so why would they take away the first and foremost reason for you to have to do this..

3rd, once again, this is showing non accontability.. you chose to make a certain character, you made a choice, live with it, not everything gives you a do over for x amount of money..

and for the guy who is complaining about achievments and such, who cares... i used to be mental about them, but they do nothing, and are nothing.. (yes some matter cause they give you passives and what not) but for the most part, all the achievments that matter, are still available.. and if playing tac is really bumming you out that much, then maybe its time to let go of said achievments.. your basing your whole argument on one of the most meaningless parts of the game.. (well next to pvp lol)..

Professions are unbalanced. Species are unbalanced. Ship classes are unbalanced. Factions are unbalanced. But, hey, they sell lots of Master Keys, so it's all good.

    I never understood this assumption.

From a financial perspective, Cryptic get nothing out of it, they just have the cost of running the servers. Ideally, we'd buy everything and then never play the game.

I assume that cryptic are nice people, and most of their employees want to make something fun to be enjoyed by we, the embittered masses.
In that case, an altruistic mind would want you to play the content you enjoy.

Unless there's a couple of folk who think "We've worked really hard on this, we're going to make sure you have to look at it!" and I really don't see how that'd happen.

That said, there is very little of the game you actually have to play.
