Mail Items Deleted

So I was one of those people who stored a ton of items in my mail, mostly doffs and bridge officers, since even with buying extra slots from the C-Store, there was no way I could hold them all. Also, being in a small Fleet, with only 2 active people, I required a lot of doffs, and tried to store them up beforehand.

After season 7, we had those mail issues, so I just didn't touch things for a while. Then, they returned a bunch of items back separately, but whenever I opened my mailbox, the framerate would drop drastically and it made it really hard to do anything, so I decided to wait to see if that would get fixed. Then, they implemented the 300 mail display limit, but it showed only older mail first.

I also noticed that none of my older mail had attachments, so I thought they were all in the returned mail we got shortly after season 7 with attachments.

Finally, today, I started going through and deleting my older mail messages. Before I deleted each one, I made sure to individually click on it, and check to see if I could see any attachments. If there wasn't one (and there never was), I would delete it. Finally, I cleared enough mail so that my most recent messages started appearing.

To my horror, the returned attachment messages I had gotten from the system shortly after Season 7 wasn't in the list. Even worse, I noticed that all my mails I had previously sent now had their attachments back, including the ones I had left to delete, but already had checked to see if attachments were in there.

This means that I have deleted hundreds of purple doffs, bridge officers, lock box items like cross-faction consoles, C-Store individual pets (I was saving them in my mailbox to give out as gifts to friends later), and more.

I've been patient about most things in STO, but losing all this is most definitely not acceptable. I don't care if I have to have my mail rolled back a day or whatever, but this needs to be rectified. Ticket ID #2,016,030.

Edit: Wrong forum. Please move this to the bug reports forum where I hope someone will see it.

wow, that's bad, I wish you luck in getting your stuff back. they do need stop with the double mail post. 1 would not have anything then there would be another with the same date and time with my item. I too deleted a rare engine. I know it is nothing compared to what you lost.
I have a lot of rare boffs I can send you if you want

I have the same issue and this was supposed to be fixed. Anything I post on the exchange if I forget about it I get an item return mail with no item ! I hate to think what I have lost as it makes me nearly cry when I do !
Its one of the contributing factors as to why I only occasionally pop into game now and do not even buy Zen any more !

The mail system is a complete podge right now. I have piles of mails indicating exchange sales have expired, that the items are being returned to me - with NO ITEMS on them. In addition, I have mails of the same type that do have items attached, that it won't let me take.

Hopefully they can fix all the issues, and hopefully you'll get your stuff back.
I don't know if this is your exact issue, but you must claim returned Exchange items with the character who posted the items. So if your Ferengi Captain posted the items you can't claim them in the email with your Vulcan Captain, as it will show no item attached. It has to be the Ferengi Captain.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Tested this and it seems only the character that posted the item for sale gets the alert. I had some alerts so tested by logging onto my other characters before opening them, and nada nothing they had no alerts and no mail to claim !

I had this suggested to me by a few people but after I tested they tested and confirmed it too, its somehow got into "urban" legend ! Thanks for the suggestion though it is appreciated !

I must add that the toons I tested on (I have 4) were all inactive i.e I had not used them nor posted any items for sale with them in a long time they had no mail to claim if exchange items expired !

I try to check my exchange items every few days and repost them for sale to circumvent this but that just starts getting arduous !

p.s every item returned to my main character belongs to my main character he posted them. Nearly all mails are blank returns !

Same here... sent a ticket about it and the only reply I got was "send a bug report", haven't heard back from anyone since, got to love the lack of support for this game

    If you read this http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=833851

You see this whole mail thing is a big joke. We are drowning and cryptic let us drown, we don't get any help or response. They keep making new stuff, but the game becoming more bugged every day. Look at the last update they done for the ship pets, nice options tho but they made also a lot of problem that they don't fix.

They fix one thing and we get 10 bugs back, they should stop developing new content and star fixing things first.

I am really thinking to take action and start a signing webpage to convince Cryptic to fix things first before making new content. Maybe hopeless but STO deserve at least that.

Well at least for me, the returns are not missing at all. Every return mail gets a "ghost" copy that is empty but the real one with the item is there below it. However...

I'm pretty sure that trying to delete the ghost mail will delete the real mail instead (and the item if you haven't claimed it already). Don't do that. Claim the item from the real message, then delete that. Leave the empty copy, its undeletable but will disappear on its own next time you open the mail window.

To be honest, the "ghost" returned item from exchange messages have never been anything but a nuisance. I haven't lost a single thing due to it. I just take my time, if it says it's a returned item, but no attachment, I just click to the next message. I DO NOT delete it, as that may or may not TRIBBLE up the real message.
I guess it just points, to the fact, that sometimes being in a huge rush, puts you further behind, than being patient would have gotten you.

Actually, unless you have been foolish, you haven't lost a single thing. Read my post above (and someone else outlined almost word-for-word exact copies of my directions, right before my post, as well.

Ta very much. Won't return the various oddments I've already lost this way, but I won't lose any more at least. Nothing on the scale of what happened to Tangolight, I'm happy to say - good luck Tangolight, I hope you get your items back. Devs, any comment on that?

Distressingly, I just got a reply back to my GM request where they basically said the mail system has a lost and found that will automatically return items and that permanent losses are rare, but if it does happen, to file a bug report and they cannot return permanent items. :(

As this happened on Friday night, and it's now Monday, I just checked my in game mail (on the same character I was deleting things from) and see no returned items, messages from the Lost and Found, or any restoration of mails I know I had deleted.

Considering the magnitude and worth of the items I have lost, it's gotten really hard for me to want to continue to play. Although I would really much like to, it's depressing to log in knowing that so much time and effort has gone. Especially all the doffs and lockbox consoles, pets, and other stuff I had been hanging onto for new alts. (I had actually just made my new Romulan, and was going through my mail when this occurred precisely because I wanted to get the purple doffs I had stored in there for my new alt.)

As it looks like my GM ticket isn't going anywhere else, as bug reports won't get personal replies, and this is what I have been told to do, I really hope someone at Cryptic/PWE sees this and is able to escalate my issue. I've refrained from doing much with my mail since this happened, other than deleting some item sold notifications, so I'd even take a entire mail rollback for my character if that's an option. In fact, it's probably preferable.

I had received about twenty stacks of items back from the Exchange (satellite turrets) the other day. The emails had nothing attached. After reading this thread and learned there was a duplicate 'ghost' email I was a bit perplexed as no post had any items attached; there was no second duplicate email with the attachment to be found. Yesterday after I got home from work I started deleting the plethora of Exchange emails stating that items were sold. I deleted dozens upon dozens and after closing the window and reopening it emails from further back in time began appearing.

More deletions now from the beginning of August began appearing (I had never, to this point, ever deleted any as I was unaware about limits, but I had only really started using the Exchange at the beginning of August) I closed the window again and reopened and the duplicate emails with the items attached appeared. I detached the items and deleted the email, and as stated, the 'ghost' duplicate could not. By closing the window and reopening it those 'ghosts' also disappeared. Fortunately, all items that were returned, including ones from earlier in September, were retrieved and now my mailbox is empty. Thanks for the advise posters.
