Grew up in Orange County, California, about twenty miles up the I-5 from Branflakes' old hood. Remember that TV show from 10 or 12 years ago? My childhood was nothing like that. :D

Ex-US-Army-brat: Born in Munich, Germany. Lived in Garmisch and Heidelberg, before moving to Izmir, Turkey. Then moved to Fort Bragg, NC (USA), and then to Carlisle Barracks, PA (USA). My late father retired, so moved to Fairfax, VA (USA). Except for 10th grade in Alabama, I've lived in northern VA (1977-1984, 1988-now) and Washington DC (1984-1988). Currently living in Arlington, VA (USA).

So when people have asked me: "Where are you from?" and "Which school did you go to?" I usually answer: "Which year?"

Now living in Inverness, Scotland, UK.

I've just been reading the mystery series by A.D. Scott set in and around Inverness in the 1950s. She's quite good at bringing the geography, the culture, and the times to those who have never experienced it. We've been using bits gleaned in the books to do sideline internet research, and have found it to be an interesting study.
