I am NOT a Starfleet officer!

Please, Cryptic, I can't take it any more. Please go through all the cross-faction missions and change the dialogue so people don't constantly talk to my Romulan as if he was a Starfleet* officer. The Republic is a Federation* ally, not a member.

Some missions have this fixed, but the vast majority (including pretty much all the dailies) do not. And a few, like "Cold Call", do both -- Ambassador Surah calls me a Starfleet officer, while Thot When laments that all the Romulans didn't die in the Hobus nova.

*Same goes for KDF, obviously.

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

maybe someday they will. Romulan was just a copy/past, the last kid to be picked and in the end he has a choice what team will set up with him, Starfleet or klingons :D

Whats really bad is when they ask you to come to new Romulus and help them build their new home. Hello! I discovered the damn place. How the hell is it you don't know who I am?!?!? Pretty sure I and my landing party should be in the new history books you guys are printing up for the kids. Although the daily when the ship in trouble says they never expected to be working alongside "someone like you" is pretty bad too.

Yeah, please guys, fix this stuff. Just a little late night text editing is all we ask here. Please.

Now that you mention it, it surely does spoil the immersion a bit when that Patrol Captain states he never thought to find an officer of my race to be so professional and accommodating. I've always wanted to reply as follows:

"My race? My kid sister is dating your 2d cousin, ya doofus! If you're not paying any closer attention than this, I can only hope the Elachi are harvesting those of us who match you in IQ and observational skills."

Always seems to be the small things in STO which are the most annoying.

Yeah, this really sucks. This is a prime example where one can see the half-arsed and rushed manner of bringing the Romulan Republic in STO. And I'm not talking about the alliance system when I say this, but all of the instances that others have already mentioned where the game treats me like I'm a Starfleet captain.
And to me it sucks big time. If I play as Romulan, I'm Romulan. Was it really that hard to do the faction that little bit of justice to be treated by the game as such?

The sad part is - I can't really expect a fix on this anytime soon, especially when there are still KDF missions I play where they tell me "You're the pride of Starfleet!". *facepalm*

How about the Vault Ensnared when Obisek refers to "your Starfleet"? Excuse me? I'm not even allied with the Federation, let alone am I part of Starfleet. I'm an Orion-allied (Klingon-allied, for those in denial) Romulan!

Just played "Cold Call". Ambassador Surah thinks I'm a Fed, but Thot Wen seems to know I'm a Romulan. I think Cryptic overlooked some dialogue. ;)

I've been referred to as a Klingon when in space and in my very much Romulan ship. I am Fed Allied which is puzzling there.

With the exception of maybe 10% of the games population which came with the LoR release(I expect most of the influx was returning players - every player in the game was first and above all a Starfleet officer. But you think they could have done a pass on the missions to change that with LoR - guess since Star trek is really all about Starfleet(all TV/movies and most of the books) I guess it's just pick the least amount of work.

Nope. Neither of you discovered Mol'Rihan. It was actually Tovan Khev. Both of Y'all are just ridin' his coat tails. ;)

Kidding aside, the Dev team really should tighten up the QA side of the house. I'd be happy if they'd release a patch or three which repaired/replaced all the rest of the minor problems which take away so very much of the enjoyment in playing STO.

I recall during the closed beta for LOR I brought it up not only once but on Several Occasions. They are so many thing in LOR that just went copy and Paste. Example of having unknow federation bridge officer pop out no where and star telling what to do when you don't even have a fed bridge officer. I think they need to write each faction story Separate. I know it will be a hard work but that the only way. Take the Nimbus storyline, as another Example, during the space battle, I get Tovan voice over been spoke by my female bridge officer who is a fed. How weird is that. It's like nimbus was design for Romulan only because the other faction don't feel right, when doing this quest line.

Yes, there very much needs to be some major quality control done on most of the mission dialogue.

In particular, why does a Republic character go to Deferia? My understanding is that it is more or less first contact between the Deferi and the Federation since there hasn't been much interplay between the Federation and the Deferi (most species who make PEACEFUL contact with the Federation end up becomming members after less than 100 years). For the Klingon Empire, the Deferi provided assistance to an Emperor in antiquty thereby froing Jim'pok to assist in order to fulfill the debt of honor the Klingons owe to the Deferi.

My question is, why would a Republic character be visiting and assisting the Deferi? Is it that the Romulans had prior contact sometime in the past? Are the Deferi reaching out to the Republic seeing them as bringing balance to the turmoil and chaos caused by the Hobrus Disaster? Or is it that D'Tan send the Romulan/Reman/Alien character on a courtesy call and they get caught in the middle of the Breen/Deferi spat?

Yes, it may be the ally who asks the character to go visit the Deferi, and it may be Ambassador Surah himself that invites the character. That is not the point. I want to see a uniquely Romulan reason why a Republic character is fighting the Breen on behalf of the Deferi. A reason not motivated by the Federation nor the Klingon Empire.

Loved it when my Klingon toon was asked to rescue the survivors of a crashed KDF ship during a Breen mission. Upon freeing the first Klingon captive, he exclaimed " I knew starfleet would come for us!"

Several attempts at killing the ironic NPC with my Bat'Leth were unsuccessful. :P

All the after faction missions and endgame mechanics are cut and paste. Even though you may be using Romulan ships, the reality is that you belong to the Feds or KDF. All the fleetbase, embassy, and reputation items are the same across all factions. When you made the choice between allies, you technically became a Romulan version of Worf. During the series Deep Space Nine, Worf moved between the Klingons and Federation.

...and, that is why there is a sense of irony to the Romulan faction.

STO would have been better as a Stargate MMO than it is as Star Trek. Go figure.

Was it Breen? Or was it Dominion? As I recall, "The New Link" was originally just a Fed mission they copied over to KDF without any real changes. THAT was the mission I remembered where Klingons in escape pods were saying "I knew Starfleet would rescue us!". What I should have looked closely was if those same NPCs had the Klingon or Starfleet symbol by their information bar when you select them.

all these makes one wonder why this game even have factions. i mean when you think about we all part of the federation. ships warping out or warping in use fed warp effects. quests are fed copy and pasted all over the place. they need to break the cycle of copy and past business with all the faction. each of the faction should have their own uniqueness when telling a story without having them mention that you belong to a faction which you are not.

It's like some of the text suggests the Romulans were supposed to be their own faction, but it got too hard so they hamfisted in "Choose Red or Blue".
Time is a funny thing; There is always too much of it. Except when you need it the most, then there is never enough.

Red or Blue..... I chose Green cause I'm a Romulan flying around in a Romulan ship with a Romulan crew -.-

Color choice aside though, I myself get a bit irked when reff'ed to as Starfleet. tweeking the game a bit to fix the apparant identity issues especially with the Romulan NPC's would go along way in making game play for the Romulan faction more enjoyable and give the experiance more of what it CAN be.

If its any consolation the KDF has the same problem with a lot of these missions as a significant amount were added with LOR. Some of the older ones do it to so yeah it likely won't be fixed for a long time.
