Resolution of the summer event should have been consistent with the winter event. If we can still turn in epohhs at DS9, we should also be able to turn in Risa birds. Leaving us with unresolved items and only the hope that they can be cashed-in next year is pretty outrageous of STO. This turned a great summer event into a fizzled resolution. A game is supposed to be player-friendly....
it this dead? I know everyone is up in arms about the icons but please birds to the vendor at DS9!

She may be back next year, so hold onto them if you'd like. We did let players know in our blog and forum post that went up on the 8th: http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=954911
It looks like she stuck around a few extra days but left her post as of today.

Very well. I'll just wait to spend any more $$$ on the game until maybe next year.
Developers make their choices on behalf of what they think players want. Players make choices to spend or not to spend any more $$$ in the game.
Has anybody seen a response saying that there definitely would or would not be something done about this?
Thanks!
I apologize that my response earlier in the thread wasn't more clear -- the ability to turn in Birds for marks ended recently, as announced in the News Article posted towards the beginning of August. The Ornithologist actually stuck around a few extra days, too. While she's gone for now, you may want to keep your Birds in case she returns next year -- she is currently scheduled to, but plans are subject to change so I can't promise anything at this time. Like the Ornithologist, the other events also ended when they did as they are intended to be a special part of the Summer Event.
Additionally, the reason why we kept the ability to turn in Epohhs was because we would have been removing it without warning players. It is possible that it too will be removed after the next Winter Event, but again, everything is subject to change and we're still too far away from the event to promise anything just yet.
While it's not the news you wanted to hear at this time, I at least wanted to give you an insight on why bird turn ins are no longer available, but Epohhs are. We do appreciate your feedback, and will continue to take it into consideration.
Or at least, stick a console out there so we can sell the birds we have. I don't really want to waste 3-4 inventory spots for a year to hold some birds. I'd rather sell them as-is for a few marks. I'll hold on to the pile of unhatched eggs till next summer.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
The ornithologist stuck around "a few days" with no announcement or schedule, and that's the problem. A *lot* of people got dinged in small or ways by early, late, and unannounced changes.
Probably the most frequent topic in chat was the schedule because some things were announced in some places and not others, the wiki said nothing about sub-events, the blog and forum posts kept changing and the in-game calendar also did not list sub-events.
My #1 suggest for the next event and next summer event is to put more effort into maintaining the calendar and communication.

Wishy washy bs.
Brandon, it was clearly asked, by several people, in the thread I linked originally, coincidentally created by you. And you didnt answer it when the question was actually relevant.
That's a real shame. That's the sort of thing that undermines confidence. Add to that... the bird lady actually was *STILL THERE*, and to hell with those kdf players who couldnt get back to Risa to take advantage of that little oversight, and didnt even know that it was still available. Shame they took you at your word.
The Ornithologist actually stuck around a few extra days, too. While she's gone for now, you may want to keep your Birds in case she returns next year -- she is currently scheduled to...
i have all the inventory slots i could have.
i have my inventory filled with birds and it would really suck to trash them now, just to find out you would made available a way to exchange them, on the next day.
how ever, the game is unplayable with so many birds.
there are many people complaining of similar issues.
it would be really nice of the developers to add a new tap to the GPL machine, that allowed us to exchange the birds like the winter ephos.
We already asked nicely for this but once again they just completely ignored us and the bird lady is gone... They would rather we were stuck with half bred birds and a stock pile of eggs then let us finish them off.
It's this kind of BS ignoring your players requests (And this wasn't a major one) that shows you don't care about what we want...

How can we keep it when the space in the bank slot is running out. if you want us to keep it til next year then give us BANK slot to put them in. or better a console so we can just turn them in.
What about the GPL console at Quarks? Can we please just use that to turn in the birds we have? As you said, the ability to turn in Winter Epohhs remains. So why not the birds?

if that is the final answer, I am DONE. I am sick of this "you must log in today for X and Y" or "act fast or it will be gone... until we put it on sale again". I took part in your summer event. was willing to give it a try. I racked up a bunch of birds, then went out of town for a few days at the end of the event so I missed the ability to finish the doff assignments by handing them in. I am sorry that I did not plan my holiday schedule around YOUR event. Everyone in my fleet said don't worry you will be able you been able to hand them in at DS9. Well like your other players, I was a fool. And now to be told, "well maybe you can use them next year." I am surprised to you did not suggest to buy some more inventory space as well.
Well, I will NOT spend any more money with Cryptic and I have lost all interest in playing because on this. Yes it is a small thing. but makes me feel the dev don't really care about my time unless play the way or time they want me too. it has sour me on cryptic and how the devs brush off players. I would offer any player who wants my stuff to have my birds, but i CANT cause they are bound. So my only recourse is not to spend money and recommend to others to do the same. If the devs will dig their heels in about this, then so will I.
Any Dev who want to check my validated of my statement is free too because i know how many game devs like to call their customers hypocrites.
edit: I would recommend to other players who feel this is a draconian limit should emailing Daniel Stahl (dstahl@crypticstudios.com ) who has often asked to have issue or suggestions sent to him.

I guess you don't play many mmos since many have limited time events, it's what most do to get players to come back.
I guess you don't play many mmos since many have limited time events, it's what most do to get players to come back.
no I don't. I am a Star Trek Fan. I play THIS game. I apologize for knowing the standards for all online gaming. I apologize for not reading all the forums post about this issue. I try to avoid the STO forums. I apologize for not reading every Dev blog 100%. I barely have enough in life time to play much less research every topic and timeline of the game. All I am asking , as are other players are, is to add a bird turn in to the vendor at DS9 as to match the last seasonal event STO did. I guess that makes me entitled.
Could some dev explain why, since no more birds can be created, what harm it is to let players with birds currently in their inventory to turn them in for the reward for logging in during the summer event? Instead all I see is a some customer who will feel burned by cryptic because they did not meet some arbitrary deadline.
"Star Trek Online is powered by the most abundant resource in the galaxy . . . Gullibility"
since I believed the warning about the 15th deadline for Risa getting extended to the 19th. One character has 3 eggs that I guess will just waste bank account space until next June. Yay.
Either a deadline is for real, or it isn't. If it is, say so and don't monkey around with it. If it isn't, ditto. People need to be able to trust the powers-that-be, whether they are paying customers or F2P (like me).
Ditto: Making farming missions (for those of us on "normal" setting, not "intermediate" or "elite") ALOT harder doesn't amuse me. I'm not one of those perpetually-over-1-mil.-EC players. I tend to be in the 200-500K EC area. The farming missions used to help me keep the ECs flowing in when I needed them, not as way to enrich me. I do not have Mk XII, Borg-augmented, MACO, and Omega everything. I also do not have all blue or blue/purple or all purple doffs either. I try to do my best with what I have (a lesson I learned from my late father, a retired US Army LTC) and what I can afford to purchase within my characters' means, and this should not be considered a negative by the haves looking down their noses at have-nots like me. Please, Cryptic, let "normal" level characters like mine stay on "normal" level. We're not all the equivalent of Navy Seals on STO.
If this is considered "whining", then I apologize for how I said it, but not for what I said.
OK , I get that the event is over, but I was collecting birds till the last week, because I am NOT in America I missed the mark and now I am stuck with 10 birds PER toon!!! PLEASE PEOPLE, LET US EXCHANGE THEM!!

That was the point I was making. What harm would it have done Cryptic to leave her there? You can't buy the eggs nor get them anymore. Even if they just allow people to turn in the eggs and birds that would be fine with me. What financial gain does Cryptic lose for allowing us to do that? Now it is just basically a lose situation for them since it may make customers or future customers keep their credit cards in their wallet.
Had they not left the Christmas event stuff in the GPL trade-in this would be a non-issue, but since they did (for whatever the reason) it just looks bad on their part. Yes they posted in the blog about it, but there are several threads on the forums asking if the birds would be put into the GPL trade-in like the Winter Eppohs and those got no response.
Obviously, they paid a dev to remove the coding from Risa. They also paid one to add the sunglasses coding into the Risa vendor near the tailor. Those are not on the GPL trade in machine if anyone hasn't noticed. They paid someone to change the console icons which was irrelevant. My point is that if Cryptic can pay someone to do something that has no financial impact on the game (actually the icons made it harder) ....why remove something that didn't have any effect to their bottom line? I am 100% sure IF the winter Eppoh trade in was costing Cryptic money they would have removed it 6 months ago.
There are plenty of players and fleet mates out there that still have tons of birds. Personally, I have only 1 bird for 3 different toons to turn in so it really isn't that big a deal to me. It is just the principle of the matter. They wasted more time and money taking it away and dealing with upset customers, then if they would have just left well enough alone.
I love this game. I have spent a decent amount of money on it. I am not trying to bad mouth Cryptic in any way. I just think they get their priorities mixed up sometimes.
wondering when are ya adding the risa birds to the GPL exchange terminals? like they did with the winter epophs? im sure im not the only one that needs to trade in birds.....
