Got to the part of the mission where I'm in my observation lounge with the species ambassador, and a dialog box opens in which Ambassador Jiro Sugihara tells me I can talk to the species ambassador once my bridge officer debriefs me. The dialog box has a button that says "Talk to Bridge Officer." Clicking the button closes the dialog box, at which point the only action available is a button below the Pause Zone button that says "Diplomacy Corps." Clicking this button reopens the initial dialog box which again closes as soon as the "Talk to Bridge Officer" button is clicked. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
There is no bridge officer or any other kind of interactable character or object in the room.
There are several security officers and various types of diplomatic personnel in the room, but none can be spoken to.
The species ambassador is in the room, but cannot be spoken to.
There is a console in the room, but it cannot be interacted with.
There is no way out of the room except to beam up to ship, thus aborting the mission.
Bug report submitted.

Ok, now I just spotted the little blue "search" dropdown. Brilliant.
