The trait system just got a HUGE revamp with LOR. I don't think its going to be adjusted again any time soon. Besides, with 8 trait slots, there's plenty of room for both.
Or am I going to be forced to make an alt character if I want to play ground? I want to play the game, not grind up new alts.
Why would anyone chose half space traits and half ground traits?
this trait system is new. why would they change it..
you can choose half and half if you want.. or make a new char.
or mix and match anything you want..
be thankful. before you only got to choose 3 traits plus your race one..
we get like 8 now?
and no you dont need all ground traits to do stfs or anything.
[12:35] Vessel Two of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 225232 (271723) Plasma Damage to you with Plasma Lance.
[12:44] Vessel One of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 1019527 (1157678) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Energy Bolt Explosion.
Dude... if you can't find a balance when chosing traits, you need to try harder...
This is like those people who want the ability to just fill up all skills so they "dont have to chose".
A game like this about choice and consequence: You pick some, you loose some... If you want to assign all space specs, to get 1-2% extra, then that's your choice. Don't blame Cryptic for your inability to balance your build.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

Honestly, with good enough players, you can get away with fresh level 50s with white armor/shields/weapons, a decent Mk X purple kit, basic remodulators, and tear through ground STFs like they aren't even there.
Now, I am not that good. I like ground STFs and such, but not good enough to do with basic gear.
OP: recommendation for you. Buy some of the cheap lockbox traits off the exchange, they come with trait respecs, which are a great way of getting some easy ones. But do note that each trait only works once I think for the respec; could be mistaken on that.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Yes if you have a good team you can do that but with random people you usually don't have a good team that blows past things so easy.
I keep trying to do Infected: Manus (Elite) and get the optional and I am using MK XII Omega Reputation full set and have only gotten the optional 3 times on 3 different characters. Still have 7 other characters to go and it is a pain with idiots in the mission who rush into the Borg causing the worker drones to start assimilating officers wile so many drones still around. I try my best to save officers but can't always save them in a entire match. The problem is idiots getting to close and never listening to what anyone says and don't learn from mistaken in a game.
Their are games that someone does that the entire time rushing ahead dies quickly waits a wile to be revived and does it again and again. Why people can't learn what they are doing is wrong is beyond me.
So what would be your fix for this supposed problem, force everyone to use 4 ground and 4 space traits? I just don't see what the issue is here, if you want to be your best in space then choose all or mostly space traits, if you mainly care about ground then choose ground traits. Or you can also just self impose 4/4 on yourself and let everyone else do what they want. I don't see how anything other than a nerf could come out of this.
Personally I just maintain separate ground and space characters that have there traits and skill points allocated accordingly, and I am perfectly happy with that.
Or am I going to be forced to make an alt character if I want to play ground? I want to play the game, not grind up new alts.
Why would anyone chose half space traits and half ground traits?
you just answered your own question. you dont want to grind an alt, so distribute your traits more evenly between ground and space on the one you have.
none of these traits are even that necessary. its not like the game is hard without them. (space is so easy you could throw everything into ground and still breeze through the space game).
there should be choice and they have given us freedom to build our character the way we want. the only other option is to force you into picking 4 space and 4 ground. how is that an improvement if the choice is made for you?

Fair point, but I would guess you are pugging? Unfortunately that is also the risk you take if you are.
I'm not denying your point or pain, just that, well, if you pug, you are choosing to dive into that pool.
And also, some people really never learn, that is very VERY true, regardless of the game you play.

I think there should be a balance between space and ground traits like they did for the skill tree long time ago.
Sure traits are not as powerful but the game is meant to be played equally on both space and ground.
Having to play 2 different characters to enjoy both aspect of the game is not good design imo, and i am a little afraid it goes in this direction if they continue releasing powerful genetic resequensers.
*shrug* I'm no STO expert but I do just fine in both ground & space with all my characters. As anazonda mentioned earlier it's all about knowing how to create a proper build.
try a new toon and let him be an eng..
nothing is more fun on ground!!
skill him for ground..
keep you tac on an escort for space..
best of both worlds:D

So that way you can be a little good at either of those things?
But yeah, traits probably aren't gonna really change anytime soon.
I mean, they already GOT changed around the time of LoR coming out or so.

You pick some, you make an alt for the other some.

I will happily take my main into ground or space battle and win without breaking a sweat.
The problem is: You don't understand how to make a proper build.
i give u example
i have KDF klingon tac
space : accurate , elusive , techie , crippling fire
(why need more ?)

Yep I am pugging.
Just got optional with another character with good team
Congrats.
But pugging still means you gotta deal as such. Heck, I've forbidden myself from pugging ground STFs anymore.
I do them because I like the more random nature of them and like to be surprised with great runs. I only wish people would learn from their mistakes.
I can understand that, I wish you luck with that.
