Season 8 new enemy

eazzieeazzie Member Posts: 4,317 Arc User
In the latest episode of "On Screen" Brandon and Whitney (love you guys) announced that Season 8 will feature a new enemy first encountered by Voyager.

As you will see from my link, there is alot to choose from. But who would you hope it will be?

It has to be a hostile race like The Kazon. But has there is already The Malon Sector in The Beta Ursae Sector Block is this a clue.

A lot of people have been thinking Vaadwaur, mainly because it was a plot thread left dangling by the episode Dragon's Teeth.

There are a lot of possibilities.

Voth - possible as a villain, but more likely an ally. As a Villian, they'd clean our clocks. City ship off the port bow captain...

Kazon - I hope not. Not much of a threat to 1 Federation ship, let alone a fleet.

Krenim - standout potential; originators of the chrontion torpedo, likely have timeship access, or even more likely, Annorax has built his ship again.

Pralor - the Star Trek version of the Cylons

Not a lot of species on your list that are capable of being a genuine threat to anyone, AND are hostile, AND would be new additions. I mean what would happen the first time a Kazon ship tried threatening a Klingon one? I expect a lot of belly laughs, followed by a crippled Kazon ship with a lot of stabbed people aboard.

Not my list just one that I found that had the best detail to help players decide.

I agree about what you say in regards to The Kazon, but the thing to consider too is it has been a number of years since Voyager first encountered them, so therefore they could be more technically advanced.

It's been confirmed by DStahl that it is not the Kazon. As for me, my money is on the Voth. The interior of a Voth ship would make a pretty cool "space" adventure zone. That and apparently there is some link between the Voth and the Gorn that they've wanted to do a storyline on for some time.

I can see an invasion by the "doctrine" Voth to attack Earth and Gornar to eliminate any proof that they originated in the Alpha Quadrant. A splinter group of Voth would help the Alpha Quadrant races.

While the Kazon might be more advanced at that point...they'd probably hever developed far less further than the player's faction (whichever that might be) because the Kazon did not develop one tiny bit of the technology they had...and because they're stupid.

Personally, I think it's the Talaxians.

Let's face it, most of us would shoot them on sight.

I have actually just thought. PWE could of turned the guessing of which species into a competition. If your Romulan you could be given the opportunity to win a legacy pack, If your FED or KDF get a free choice of ship from the C store, and have runner up prizes from consoles to weps to free zen to free refined dil (all these are just random ideas though)

I can't remember where the thread is but, someone did post a pic of an option for the tailor which, had voth skin or claws when they were messing about with their gorn toon. If someone can find it and link it would be very appreciative ( because im lazy ).

I would like to see the Vidiians - I know later in voyager ep "Think Tank" (Season 5) it was said they had found a cure for the "Phage"
but I would like to see them back and up to there old tricks

I loved the Vidiians as villains, but the impression I got was that a) they're not all bad and b) if they have been cured of the phage then there is no reason for them to remain villainous. The impression I got from the show was that the phage reduced them to savages out of desperation. Remove that, and you remove the motivation they have to fly around the galaxy and steal people's organs.

My money is on the Voth, or one of the other dangling threads Voyager left hanging. The Voth is an easy fit because it's one of the more enticing loose ends the show left, plus there are a few hints in the game that point in the direction of the Voth* and Christine Thompson is too much of a Trek fan to have done things like that by random.

    * The Gorn backstory seems ripe for this kind of villain, and I agree with one of the posters in this thread that if it is the Voth there might also be some kind of Gorn connection too. And there was one of those random 'investigate base' missions you can get where you find the crew of space lab who were working on artificial wormhole tech vanished and signs that reptilian DNA left at the scene.

The general consesus is that it will be The Voth. So are we happy with them being introduced, if not why not, and who would you like it to of been. Do you think this could now be a build up to introducing the Delta Quadrant.

As I said in another thread, there are three things that an enemy from Voyager needs to have to be an enemy in STO, motive, means to travel to Alpha Quadrant, and means to be an actual threat. The Vaadwaur have the means to get to the Alpha Quadrant and the motive to attack the Federation, but it does not have the technology to be a threat except for piracy. The Krenim have the means to get to the Alpha Quadrant and the means to be a threat, but there is no motive. The Voth have the means to get to the Alpha Quadrant, the motive to destroy Earth, and the means to be a threat. There are not many villains that make as much sense as the Voth. Besides, the Voth could also be the method to open up the Delta Quadrant to us since not all Voth want to kill us only the Voth that blindly follow the Doctrine.

It's between the Voth and the Krenium Imperium I think, though I wouldn't be surprised to see the Vaadwaur. The Voth is the most likely for the space adventure zone because their ships are just so gigantic.

I actually never liked the Voth and the Episode was... I don't know how to put it... but DINOSAURS ESCAPING EARTH BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE WENT EXTINCT? Then getting as far as the Delta Quadrant and evolve to humanoids?
Yeah... no... sorry... I am well able to suspend my disbelief but this was just way over anything I'd imagined...

I sincerely hope that it'd be Viidians (Think Tank they had a cure... but would they provide it to the Viidians or would the cured Viidians, driven mad by the Phage, actually share it?) or Vaadwaur...
Anything else would be too much...

the voth idea is merely a recycle of the silurian idea from doctor who.

I know t is not Voyager,
I would love to see the Dominion brought in as a faction
    You get:
Vorta, Jem'Hadar, Breen, Cardassian and the shape shifters
You already a have the ship models
They are bad TRIBBLE to boot
You can intro other races and give access via the ds9 wormhole

Krenim would be a welcome sight. As to how they managed to get to the Alpha/Beta quadrants is a peculiar problem, however.

Its the Voth for sure. Part of me hopes its a faction fight, players supporting those who follow distant origin vs. doctrine. That would be a good way to introduce and explain a Voth ship or lockbox. M aybe it will be the science vessels so that the science types will be satisfied.

Actually it makes a lot of sense when you factor in other aspects of the Universe. The Voth consider themselves to be the first intelligent species in the Galaxy and they are certainly one of the oldest if we are to believe they became space faring 60 million years ago. We know this belief is technically untrue however because the Preservers are actually the first real civilization. Feeling lonely, they began seeding their DNA around the Galaxy, manipulating life so that it would evolve along a certain path.

Suppose this means the Voth are somewhat correct that they were the first because in actuality they may have been the first Preserver creation to evolve and rise to the stars.

As for the Gorn connection, I don't think they would end up being related to each other because that would mean the Gorn are related to us as well and you would think someone would have picked up on that. I mean just a handful of scans of a Voth pointed out that they are undeniably related to us, so you would think the same would be said for the Gorn. Instead I think the Gorn connection stems from the fact they are a Saurian species. The Voth look down on Mammalian life and the Klingons had conquered the Gorn not to long ago. They may simply want to free a fellow Saurian race who fell to a nasty bunch of filthy Mammalians.

All just speculation of course. I'm very excited to see the Voth in action. This is also supposed to be endgame content so how exactly do they fit into the return of the Iconians? So fascinating!
