Bottom line : What should we do of player that speak in klingon? You won't be bother if klingon's player use klingon? So why should you be bother that a german captain speak in german? There are still nation on Earth with different culture and language (even the movie seem to imply every one speak english). So I say it is very star trek that we all speak different language.

What we should ask is for an universal translator in the game (but we will lose the variety).

Yes you do need to be able to use Zone. Im not disagreeing with you. But wouldnt you like to have your own zone where you dont have to sort through all the english? this isnt a german specific thing, so dont say that. and if there are enough people who speak klingon fluently then yes there should be a specific zone just for Klingon speaking people. im not saying separate the people. im saying separate all the languages into their own managable zones so that no one has to sort through zone to find the language they speak. I love how im not just suggesting this because of my own personal reasons but because i want all players of all languages to have a better experience, yet im being attacked for it.

I'm only disturbed when Germans use caps lock, it flashes me back to old newsreels.

The majority of this game is English speakers. The Zone right now in every area of the game is dominated by English Speakers.

What im saying is its not fair that people who speak other languages are forced to use a zone where the majority of players speak english, and im suggesting cryptic create new zones and make it like every MMO ive played.

    German Zone
    French Zone
    English Zone
    Spanish Zone
Portuguese Zone <--- [i have actually seen quite a few Portuguese speaking players on here. its cool STO is being played by so many people around the world.]

You don't want to be considered racist, yet you want to implement a system of apartheid ingame?

    What's next?

"I don't like to see Fleet and Character names in foreign languages next to me in ESD! Please implement segregated shipyards, contraband turn-ins, commodity vendors and tailors!!!"

Reported. You're sick. You really are.

How is it apartheid to implement something that EVERY MMO I'VE PLAYED HAS HAD IN CHAT. Its not to separate people because they should be separate. its to make it easier for people of all languages to use chat!!!

Now if you want a special multi-lingual zone, thats fine! I would even visit it now and then. But every language DESERVES its own zone.

If there are any more people accusing me of racism, or for the love of god... Apartheid?! You will be reported.

Right now I'm on ESD Zone. Im not exactly sure why this is, but today there are about 95% more Germans in Zone than there is on any normal day. I have no problem with people who speak other languages playing STO or for that matter using Zone, but it has made ESD Zone useless for people who speak English.

Can we get Language Specific Zone Chat?

Instead of there being just 1 zone for one area. There should be one per language used on the game.
Take the bright side of it. You don't have to read and understand the Gorn jokes, the religious debate, the US politics discussions, and various xenophobic/rascist discussion. Not to mention some people giving advice about the game that don't have a clue on how to play it.
I don't know about you, but I think it's better that way.

Here's my advice, OP: Don't hang out in ESD. It's a festering cesspit. I'm kinda glad Qo'noS hasn't turned into places like ESD or DS9.

If you need bank, exchange, or mail access regularly, use K7 or Starbase 39-Sierra.

That's what you think about people speaking a non-english language?

You're trying to move people out of general sight because they bother you. If they want to create means of communication, where they're all by themselves they'll just create it by opening their own channel by their own choice.

If you want to have an "english-only" channel, create and moderate it...

I'm 99% certain his point was that the chat in ESD sucks no matter what language is being used. Not everything typed on a forum is hate-speech, nor everyone a hater. Sometimes people need to check their perception of what's being said too.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Well what you want isn't "racist," but it's certainly discriminatory and.. nationalist. Also not very Star-Trek-like.

You could just ignore-list the Germans if they really bother you. Or better yet... uncheck the box next to "Zone" and join one of the myriad large public channels in the game.

I do see the OP's point about lacking the ability to understand other languages, but I disagree with forced segregation on principle.

I think a better method would be to leave Zone as it is, open to anyone and everyone regardless of language. Then have language specific channels players can choose to use if they want to. This would be good because the language specific channels are completely optional so nobody is being segregated without making the choice to segregate themselves. The OP obviously would choose to segregate himself to the english channel per his own decision, Nobody else is forced into using another channel.

    lol.

I've seen it happen. The game has servers for the different languages and sometimes a glitch dumps you in the wrong one. It used to be really bad with DS9... I used to spend a lot of time practicing German there. :D

If it's an actual issue, you can beam out and back down, that usually fixes it.

The problem with this is the number of languages. STO only has official language channels for a few. I've played Foundry missions in more languages than STO has official traslations in.

I thought this thread was going to be able the rampant racism and endless religious arguments when I read the title. Instead, OP is complaining that the German people are speaking German. Please. OP: Check your privilege, man. It's their game, too. Would you tell Latino people to stop speaking Spanish at your local grocery store in real life?

Zone chat is useless for English-speakers because the vast majority of those who claim to be English speakers seem incapable of typing in anything besides txtspeak or some suburban wannabe variant on urban slang. Those who use completely different languages aren't the problem.

And if you hate the tiny fraction of Germans in Zone, don't ever go into CO. There's a fairly large contingent of Brazilians in there, so you're going to see a lot of Portuguese. And I'd hate for you to bruise your delicate 'Murican eyes on yet another one of those pagan foreign tongues...

    ^ This.

Also, how can you mind, when they're generally so incredibly polite in their interactions? The Germans must be the most polite gamer community I've run into, to date :P

OP here's a solution for you: create your own channel and only allow in people who've sent you their birth certificate.
    Problem solved.

They really should create a universal translator built into chat that would convert the incoming language to meet the settings of the players client, period. The global trade language is English anyways, so if English speaking folks want to see English, the UT would convert all non English language to English..same goes for German folks, English chat would be converted into German for those players :)

It is very difficult to utilize zone chat when no one understands each other.

I tried to bring up using something similar in my Auto-Translate thread, but people seem resistant to the idea. All I know is that complaints of not being able to understand each other are only going to increase once Cryptic starts adding in other localizations. Threads like this are only going to pop up more and more.

As someone who works with automatic translation systems, I'm hesitant about introducing such a thing here. Consider that companies throw millions at the problem, compiling huge subject-specific databases on a per-company basis and working with dedicated teams of language and localisation specilists, still can't get the system to reliably form a coherent sentence even when the system is "aware" of the topic at hand. I feel the sheer diversity and differences in register and spelling involved in translating zone chat from various sources to various outputs would pretty much bankrupt Cryptic before they got it working to an acceptable degree.

Or you'd end up with a Google Translate plugin (or worse: yahoo babelfish) and wanting to punch peoples' face in for being rude or making no sense, when, really, neither is true in their source language.

First of all... if you seriously use Zone Chat to achieve anything it's your own gorram fault...

    Second: Why?
Why does it bother you so much? Why don't you simply seize the opportunity to further your knowledge?
You should be happy and proud to have such moments, if you don't understand something but want to, just ask, I am and surely a lot of others will gladly educate you and help you understand as much as we want you to help us understand...
And please leave your gross exaggerations in the drawer where they belong and lock it up...

Third: Why do most/all these threads seem to have a problem especially with germans?

Edit: Never saw this... god and damn together are censored :D
