    Both honestly.

But if I had to choose...

I'd probably go with 5 fore weapons over 5 tac consoles.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

With each MK XII purple tactical console, I get about 90 more DPS per DHC (less than 400 in total).

With each MK XII purple DHC, I get more than 1.4k in DPS (before power drain).

If you keep the math really simple say each weapon does 100 damage, and each console is a bonus of 30%

4 weapons with 5 consoles would be 400*1.5+400=1000 damage
5 weapons with 4 consoles would be 500*1.2+500=1100 damage

So 5 weapons would be better, but that?s not looking at power drain at all or buffs.

it depends on what kind of ship theyre stuck on. the 5 tac consoles is more useful on a cruiser imo while the 5 fore weapons would be more useful on an escort/destroyer that can use dhc.

Ah ok I was toying with the idea of the khyzon but I really lov my battle cloak and superior reman :)

I own the fleet defiant and it never really impresses me damage wise

I own the scimitar this does crazy damage like 20k dhc crits but the turning is a pain

I was toying with either the fleet hafeh/dhelan or the Kumari eng version(not sure if its worth it without getting the pack)

    Hence me asking the question

Mk XII Phaser dual heavy cannons (for example) have 256 DPS.
If you used four consoles with 30% boost each, then you'd have a 120% boost, plus the original 100%, for total damage of 220%, or, 2.2x that normal amount.

    So:
(256x2.2)=563.2 raw damage per DHC, times 5 DHCs = 2,816 DPS

Add to that the two Mk XII Phaser turrets you're probably carrying, at base damage of 132 each.
    So:
(132x2.2)=290.4 raw damage per turret, times 2 turrets = 580.8 DPS.

2,816 plus 580.8 means~~~Total is 3396.8 DPS for all phasers if you use 5 front weapons and 4 consoles.
    ******************************************
If you used five consoles with 30% boost each, then you'd have a 150% boost, plus the original 100%, for total damages of 250%, or 2.5x that normal amount.

    So,
(256x2.5)=640 raw damage per DHC, times 4 DHCs = 2,560 DPS

Add to that the three Mk XII Phaser turrets you're probably carrying, at base damage of 132 each.
    So:
(132x2.5)=330 raw damage per turret, times 3 turrets = 990 DPS.

2,560 plus 990 means~~~Total is 3550 DPS for all phasers if you use 4 front weapons and 5 consoles.
    ******************************************
So, 4 front weapons with 5 consoles wins by more than 150 DPS.

This all assumes no torpedos, or Borg Kinetic Cutting Beam, etc. You'll have to do your own math if you want to create something that is not 100% energy weapons. It also assumes all Mk XII energy weapons, and all Mk XII Very Rare energy specific consoles.

This also ignores Crit chances, front DHCs having higher Crit values than rear turrets, etc. It's just base damage.

Ah, then you're not comparing everything.

    Let's start very simply.

When the Kumrai line was released, many players were in hysterics over the 5 fore weapon slots.

In reality, the Eng & Sci versions with their balanced BOFF & console layouts, were really no better at damage dealing than the JHAS.

    This is because it is 5 / 2 & 4 Tac consoles vs. 4 / 3 & 5 Tac consoles.

The Tac version, had theoretically better output in PvP vs. the JHAS - but this usually falls flat in practical terms due to its considerable lower survivability & turn rate as well as a truly awful BOFF layout (for PvP).

    Fast forward to now.

There is no comparison when it comes to the Kumari line vs. Warbirds.

Most light/med Warbirds are superior in nearly every way imaginable.

Battlecloak alone acts as both an escape method as well as a spike damage tool (up to+25% flat damage bonus - or the equivalent of about 3.5 x MK XII Purple Tac consoles).

It allows for positioning, and can give you the upper hand. It allows for pre-buffing and makes it harder to have your APA stripped from you.

On top of this you can stack more crit through captain + boffs (+7.5% for Captain + 3 BOFFs for example).

Unless you have some reason you can't, go with the warbird.

Neither. A solid build will help you out much more then simple x vs x comparisons.

You are forgetting modifiers. While they don't come into play for tactical consoles, they do for weapons.

That would tip the balance back into their favor.

With 4x Tactical consoles, my DPS per DHC is ~1,300 (lower than actual, but I'm rounding down). If I have 5 DHCs, that's 5 x 1,300 = 6,500 combined DPS with the DHCs.

With 5x Tactical consoles, my DPS per DHC is ~1,400 (lower than actual, but I'm rounding down....each tactical console increases my DHC DPS by ~90 DPS). If I have 4 DHCs, that's 4 x 1,400 = 5,600 combined DPS with the DHCs.

I didn't forget anything. Modifiers are not base damage, and I was clear about the assumptions and limitations of my calcs. I also didn't mention set bonuses (like polaron for 3 piece JH set) or lots of other stuff. I can't calculate for all permutations.

Remember, your not losing a weapon here. You will lose a fore weapon but gain an aft weapon.

Someone did the math up there, the difference was 100 damage. The turret will add that 100 plus additional damage based on the consoles.

    War birds just seem better
    Chive on and prosper, eh?
