Lead Content Designer Charles Gray shares details about the fourth Dilithium Mine Featured Project in this entry of the Legacy of Romulus News Dev Blog series.
Also - I know I mentioned it a few times - but it has been tradition to have a master key sale toward the end of a lock-box - any hint hint's - wink wink's?
Upon completion of this special project, enhancements will be made to your Fleet Dilithium Mine. Additional cosmetic Dilithium deposits will become visible around the exterior (ground) of your Dilithium Mine.
Pay dilithium to have some more decorative dilithium crystals in your dilithium mine...

A Sad Panda of Industrial calibre. 2010: This is Cryptic PvP. Please hold the line, your call is very important to us...
-Rule of Acquisition #113: Always have sex with the boss.

I will not let the childish acts of a criminal ruin this game for me.
-The actions of Cryptic, on the other hand......
Great, not only is this project the usual dose of poor use of human resources, an insult to our intelligence, and a blatant assault on our digital coffers, but now it's disgustingly ironic too. And yet, in spite of the hundreds, if not thousands of negative reactions to these cosmetic fleet holding "enhancements", Cryptic continues to relentlessly push this junk on everyone simply because they probably make buku bucks off of the insidious lure of fleets feeling the pressure to make their holdings feel more "complete".
I'm fortunate enough to be in fleet that has somehow managed to work up the millions of dil to complete all these projects across several 500 member branches (all while I'm shaking my head each time our leadership queues them up), but I feel so bad for smaller fleets that can't keep up with them.
Bottom line: STO will be far better off without this special project nonsense. We've had it for a more than a year and enough is enough. This is not good business or game design. It's time to listen to the customers and come up with new (and useful) ideas.

They've never listened to the customer,no matter how much they profess to do so...
Like everything else about these projects, given enough time, they hope the fuss will just fade away ( abit like our hopes and aspirations for this MMO )
you know this project would be really good if the mother-load was actually a mother-load were you can farm dilithium all day but that's never gonna happen in a billion years :P
For the love of god, not another one! We can't afford the dilithium cost... it's getting ridiculous...
What do you mean you can't afford it? All you have to do is pay real money to get Zen and then convert it to Dilithium. I mean really it's not that hard. (heavy sarcasm)
"We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes." -Gene Roddenberry
Seriously, another one? ENOUGH WITH THE MINE ENCHANCEMENTS! 2 weeks between them is not enough time for a lot of fleets to do these. We waited a month between starbase and embassy ones, mine ones, every two weeks. ENOUGH WITH THE MINE!
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
when will cryptic help the smaller fleets like they said they will ? , cause these sort of pointless projects are getting lame tbh
I think that would be the Dilithium Mine discounts. Which to be honest is a poor excuse if it is. I consider Dilithium an end game currency and it seems to be used for everything......... vanity projects should not be lumped in, especially at full price or the discounted price.
I'd still like to know when Cryptic are going to re-run these projects at half price like they originally said when the Fleet Starbases first came out.

QFT, when they said they would be doing something to help small fleets I was quite happy as I am in one my self but all the mine has been is another sink which is hurting small fleets - I know you can join a super huge fleet but the one im in is super friendly and everyone gets on well and would not want to join a faceless fleet where people hardly know one another.
I wish thy would stop throwing these cosmetic enhancements at the mine every 2 weeks, be different if they actually did something, for example
The last one with the miners - why cant they actually mine Dilithium for the fleet and have a central "bank" where it goes and can be contributed to the projects for no FCs, even 100 Dilithium an hour would be acceptable

See that is a fantastic idea. Unfortunately it seems that Cryptic tends to avoid ideas that require common sense. I understand a business needing an income, but there is such a strange thing as customer service too lol

Additional cosmetic Dilithium deposits will become visible around the exterior (ground) of your Dilithium Mine. This special project will be available from around 10AM PDT this Thursday, August 8th, 2013, until around when server maintenance starts on August 22nd, 2013 (or 7AM PDT ? whichever is earlier).

McCoy: "I prefer a dose of common sense! You're proposing that we go back in time, find humpback whales, then bring them forward in time, drop 'em off, and hope to hell they tell this damn probe what to do with itself."
Kirk: "That's the general idea."
McCoy: "Well that's crazy."
Kirk: "You've got a better idea? Now's the time."
So, the idea is to spend 200,000 pieces of dilithium, so that you can get a dilithium cosmetic makeover to the dilithium mine.

That's a really common PR tactic used worldwide of just letting the anger die down on its own while the customers that have a deep love of the product (or the Star Trek IP in this case) continue to foolishly buy into their high-cost-for-low-return scheme. It's wrong, but it works. Morality has no place in capitalism of this caliber, am I right? If this game did not have Star Trek attached to it, you could bet Cryptic would've been forced to shut it down by now. With the Trek name, they can get away with almost anything, and still be profitable.
I hate to say this, I really do since I think Cryptic has some wonderfully talented people in its employ and that I think Jack Emmert did a real nice thing by saving Champions Online and expanding the studio into Cryptic North, but when it comes time for CBS to decide (if they haven't already) who gets the rights to develop STO2, I sincerely hope it isn't Cryptic/Perfect World that wins the bid. Very sorry to say, but the business practices (which may coincide with Cryptic's low BBB rating) has caused so much disappointment across the entire community since STO went F2P. They ignore that disappointment, and focus on only the bottom line, and play up the few bits of exaltations they get from the minority of easy-to-please customers.
Honestly, though, I would love to be proven wrong and have more faith in Cryptic's ability to carry the game into the foreseeable future (I have defended Cryptic's methods in the past in front of my fleet so much to the point I used to be called a Cryptic apologist, but not anymore), but I've seen little to keep my hopes up.

*crickets*
The idea behind that is to make someone feel forced/compelled to pay real money for it if they want them all badly enough :P
