    His portrayal of "Kang" in TOS' "Day of the Dove" - made him my favorite Klingon character actor (even over John Colico's "Kor"). But I must say, I hope to be able to live as long as he did - 91 years is a good run. R.I.P.

    That's a real shame. He was the last of the inimitable original three Klingons. Rest in peace Michael Ansara, William Campbell and John Colicos. Going to have to watch "Blood Oath" tonight in tribute.

    On those stones outside the exchange in first city, they should place some statues to fallen Klingon Warriors.

    I believe there's one on Khitomer.

    I had the good fortune to meet Mr. Ansara at a few Star Trek conventions over the years. As I recall, I had dinner with him and his wife at one. He will be missed.

    Ansara certainly chewed the scenery when he took on his character's. I remember him as Jeannie's first Master, the Blue Djinn, on I Dream of Jeannie. As well as the first Technomage we met on Babylon 5. Of course, Kang is the character he will be most remembered for portraying. I was always grateful to get to experience that character again though Deep Space Nine.

    How very sad. He will be greatly missed. R.I.P, Michael. To live your life doing what you love is a very grand and very rare gift. Thank you for sharing with all of us.

    Placing statues of Kang, Koloth, and Kor somewhere on Qo'noS would be a very nice gesture on the part of pwe/cryptic. These three are the foundation of all things tlh'Ingan in Star Trek. And to the devil with the cost.

    Michael Ansara, 91, passed away today. He played Kang in TOS and reprised the role on DS9.

    Raise a mug of Bloodwine for the man who helped define what it is to be Klingon!

    I just saw that. He will be missed and such a wonderful actor. I will raise a cup of the best bloodwine for him!

    Michael Ansara, perhaps best known for his role as Kang on Star Trek, died in his Calabasas, Calif. home on July 31 following a prolonged illness. He was 91.

    Ansara played the Klingon commander on three different Star Trek TV series: the original Star Trek (1968), Deep Space Nine (1994) and Voyagers (1996). He is beloved by fans of the franchise for being one of just seven actors to play the same character.

    Ansara is also remembered for his starring role of the Chiricahua Apache cheif Cochise on the TV series Broken Arrow. The popular series was considered groundbreaking when it premiered in 1958, as it was one of few westerns to portray Native Americans in a positive light.

    Despite being of Syrian descent, Ansara continued to be cast in Native American roles. He played another Apache, Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Buckhart, on the Peacocks 1959 series ?Law of the Plainsman.

    Kang, to me, defined the Klingons to come more than Koloth or Kor. Had Koloth's first appearance been the definition, then Klingons would use spies and subterfuge and resemble Romulans in nature. Kor showed the ruthlessness of Klingons. Kang, though, showed both the relentless warrior and good judgement with honor (at the climax of Day of the Dove), setting the standard for Worf, Martok, and all the other "good" Klingons.

    I've seen him in all the parts named in the thread so far, and in a lot of one-shot bit parts, and loved every appearance.

    Here's something new to me though...Ansara had his own western! IMDB.com reports that he had a 30 episode western called Law of the Plainsman, apparently a spin-off of The Rifleman, in which he played the same character twice. After reading the synopsis, the premise sounds kind of cool. I wonder if the show is available publicly anywhere?

    I think it would be a good Klingon mission to time warp back to TOS time and do a marauding mission against a federation planet with Kang, Kor and Koloth.

    Now we just have to convince Cryptic to do it.
