Name's Dakota, I've been playing this game for a couple months but I have yet to figure out 1/3 of everything in game, I'm still pretty noobish when it comes to everything. But all in all I find it a fun way to further explore the Star Trek Universe.
A little about my Trekkie side: I'm a Picard fan, TNG is my favorite of the shows and my favorite ships... well I'm torn between the Enterprise D and E.
Anyhow, just thought I'd explore the forums a bit and start with an introductory post.
As you have figured out, there is a LOT to learn about this game. If you haven't found a fleet yet, I'd suggest looking for one that is helpful, and doesn't mind answering any and all questions you may have (lots to choose from)
Hope your gaming experience is a good one.
Have fun and again, welcome to STO
I am not a Mod. I am just a player. You have been informed

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep an eye out for a good one to maybe hook up with.
as pwetacodeath said, try to find a good fleet. The academy (the forum 'helpline') is a good place to have a look on. Just a warning, this game can be quite buggy but overall is a great game IMO. The Romulan side is very well done, so make a ROM and the KDF isn't too bad (once you get used to it). As I said before, welcome to STO! enjoy your stay!
You do get the Sovereign class at lvl 40, but ideally it's a stepping stone for getting the Assault cruiser refit off the c-store at lvl 50 and you can have your authentic Enterprise E experience. The ship is worth it's price, I fly one and I love it, really good Tactical Cruiser.
For extra authenticity, the First Contact uniform is free.
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

I am actually using that free Sovereign class now as well as the free TNG uniform

This game is basically written with Sisko, Defiant, and his love of Klingon in mind.
