Will someone from cryptic be leading a competition similar to the one on Risa? Using the same dance moves from the game?

I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

    Oh here we go again!

Get your HoloLeeta DOFF, but only if you're American!

Time to start showing some respect for people (i.e: your international players!) who can't go to this convention, give them alternative ways to get the DOFF.

They do have holo leeta for non American Star Trek events.

Allow me to shoot that down with the logic sniper rifle:

That DOFF has only been offered once to non-Americans and that was to London residents (England, United Kingdom).

So I don't believe that international equality is being represented here.

I went two years in a row. It's great, when you get tired of the convention you can go to Star Trek Experience.

Hate to burst your bubble - bu the Experience has been closed for many years now. :(

The convention is now held at the Rio (IMO it's much better now).

I look forward to acting as moderator for this year's STO panel at STLV again! Hope to meet everyone who can make it!

There are other events: both non-USA conventions; and the recent STO meetups in the UK, Netherlands and Germany (to name but a few).

Failing that, invite Avery Brooks to your house, get some trekkies in and call it a convention ;)

    That still doesn't help lol!
At least, not for players who happen to reside in the Southern Hemisphere.

And I'm pretty sure there are many Northern Hemisphere players who don't happen to live in those countries, so it's not practical to attend those conventions either.

But hey, if someone wants to set up an Star Trek Convention in either Sydney or Melbourne, I'll be there!
Just give me 6 months advance notice so I can book the flights.

I plan to go for one day only, as that is all my schedule will permit. Will you guys be out there all 4 days? If not can you let us know more sooner than later so we can start planning effectively?

I'll be there Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Though plane flights mean that I won't likely arrive at the convention until Noonish on Thursday, and will probably have to take off a bit early on Sunday afternoon.

A bunch of you should rent a RV and STO Road Trip! :D

When I go to Vegas with friends we usually drive, by time you figure in all the Airport BS you can be there, and you have a car to boot!

Find an official Star Trek convention in your home country and ask Brandon to support it by offering Holo Leeta DOFFs. He has done remote doffs before.

Cryptic doesn't run the convention, they just support it.

Also, I'm pretty sure if non-American's show up, or non-British in the case of the UK event, that you can still get a doff. America is a big place, so acting like supporting a couple of location means every American has the doff is pretty disingenuous.

Oh, I don't believe every American has the DOFF.
Just the ones who lived close to Vegas.
The rest, well, like every other international player, didn't get it.

That's why it's not really fair to do this, unless you're going to send the code to every sci-fi or comic store in the world.

And I said this last time, there has only been one Australian Star Trek Convention (to my knowledge) and that predated STO by several years!

So yeah, the odds of another one occurring aren't exactly high, now that the show is over.

And how exactly would I contract Brandon to let him know?
In the remote possibility there is another AussieTrek convention, that is.

We wanted to give out something at conventions, because it seemed fun. We came up with something with virtually no gameplay value, which is mostly fluff, and figured that was safe.

If a Holo Leeta Doff isn't ok, is there any unique item you would deem as being ok to give out at conventions?

All you had to do was go to ANY Star Trek convention after Vegas, take a picture of yourself there and send it to Branflakes. I was no where near Vegas and I still got the Holo-Leeta doff.

I was going to suggest Horta for Doff, but that recently showed up as a fleet reward...hmm...What about something cosmetic like a custom combadge or a uniform patch?

    CONVENTION SOUVENIRS

how about a trophy for our ready rooms? Maybe something like an oversized starfleet delta or a klingon trifoil, or a romulan raptor respectively. i also wouldn't mind an ingame t-shirt that reads I went to a convention and all i got was this lousy t-shirt. :P

    Ditto.

Well, I suppose the Burbank (Hollywood adjacent) convention I went to is "near" Vegas (~270mi), but my point is you don't actually have to go only to Vegas. Dad and I went to the Burbank Creation Convention. While there we took a picture of ourselves, and per the Blog Post, we sent a Forum PM to Brandom with the appropriate Subject Line and include a link to our photo. Had to sent two messages, one for me and my account, one for my Dad's (he's an old school Trekkie, and has played STO longer than me). Brandon quickly responded with codes and info on where to enter them. Done did. Leeta and "Convention Veteran" title was ours.

Since they started this a while back, I've seen STO support several ST Cons all around America and Europe. I expect they'll continue to do so. Obviously, there are going to be more American ST Cons than any where else in the world, so there's going to be a greater chance of getting it here. American Franchise. American Game. Gonna happen.

I should expect if I was a fan of an Australian IP, and they had similar promotions, I'd be hard-pressed to participate without traveling Down Under.

That being said, I have nothing against STO offering Holo Leeta in other ways.

Holo Leeta, while "neat", is very much fluff. She's "only" a Rare DOff, there aren't many Assigments that even use an Entertainer, and she doesn't have traits that mach many of them. It does fill a very small role, but is easily/quickly replaced. Especially once you crit a rare/very rare Orion/Vulcan Holo-DOff producing Entertainment Provision Special Deals.

So Taco, you succeeded in creating fluff. It's lovely fluff, to be sure, but as you say, it has "virtually no gameplay value."

You already get a title "Convention Veteran" along with the Holo-Leeta DOff.

Did you miss the point I made earlier?

There are no Star Trek conventions in my country!

Also, I'm sortof paranoid about my privacy, I don't post pictures of myself online.
So all you'd see is a guy in N7 jacket and cap set pulling the hat down so you can't see my face.

And yes, I'm perfectly happy with the HoloLeeta DOFF, my issue is with the inability to claim one for myself.

For the record, I am working on an assignment that requires Photonic Entertainers to Critical, so yes, I do need her at the moment.

That assignment has consistently failed to give the desired reward by the way, so I have to keep trying.

like OzTrek? A lot smaller then the US Cons but looks a bit closer to you (and guessing from the name it is on it's 10th year).

ETA: Sadly still the picture of yourself problem, unless Branflakes can talk his boss into a trip to Sydney.

Its absolutely fair to do this. This is their convention prize that they give out to players who attend conventions. If you don't attend any conventions, you don't get one. Its not a Bookstore prize, or a Comic Store Prize or a High School Reunion prize, its a convention prize.

I live 10 mins from Cryptic headquarters. I don't have one, because I haven't gone to a convention. And that's fine. Working as designed.

People who attend conventions get kitsch. This is a concept as old as conventions themselves. If you can't or aren't willing to attend a convention and send Brandon a photo, you don't get one, and more over, you don't DESERVE one.
