Disco Ball Change

gentlydirkinggentlydirking Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Come on guys seriously you nerfed the disco ball! Why?!? Its a limited use item for a holiday event, its not like its going to be happening forever.
How could such a thing gain priority compared to other issues is beyond me but hey fair enough, its your game and we arn't playing it the way you want it to be played. We found something funny to do but you go ahead and waste man hours "fixing" this high priority issue. I will miss the dancing borg.

I guess they thought that dancing borg was op (easy for players to shoot) and had to be nerfed. This supports my "if it helps players it isn't working as intended" theory.

I agree though, out of all the things dancing borg shouldn't have made it anywhere near the top.

If they had been used in private actions then this probably wouldn't have happened. However numerous people were setting them off in public actions for the sole purpose of annoying other players and negatively effecting the normal gameplay which is against the TOS, players filed complaints and filled the forums over it and because it was a TOS violation issue it was given elevated priority.

Too bad we can't use the negatively effects gameplay and player experience TOS thing to get the other 99 bazillion things fixed so quickly.

So... is the Disco Ball unable to be deployed in STFs now?
If that is the case... SWEET!

Whilst I filed no compaint -- c'mon, it's just dancing! -- I *did* post about it once, voicing my agreement with a possible nerf. Second Life, for instance, has extremely strict rules regarding animating other people's toons (which is to say: you can't even, without their express permission). And while this was just dancing, it *does* make sense to restrict such activity.

See it looks like this little device was :

a - created to annoy other players (in social zones) .

    b - created to make NPC's dance .

c - created for "fun" that is strictly enforced by Cryptic .

How could it have gone soooo wrong that it made it to the top of the "fix it" list (?) , and does this really deserve the sea lion clap you're giving it ?

Me not think so .

As fun as it was fun to see Alpha Salties dance in Mine Trap, It really didn't reduce the threat. They shoulda left it be.

I personally thought it was working as intended in combat zones. Ratchet & Clank has basically the same exact "weapon.". Honestly, without combat applicability, what's the point?

I don't see the big deal. Who cares where people use them, really? No wonder they nerf everything in the game with all the whining going on.

IT can but is supposed to behave like a non-combat pet.

You can summon it in a peaceful situation but as soon as you go to "red alert" the ball vanishes and you can't activate it during combat.

If they did something every time the players started whining then leechers wouldn't be an issue, Lobi would be account bound, Rep would at least have account wide discounts.

    Don't generalize.

Well, I have 1,000 stashed away in the bank. So do plenty of people.

I'd imagine Nerds Of Prey and Dental have at least a million total :P

It was nerfed because sto is mostly played by sociopaths who find annoying everything. It would have been nice to warn people before they spent their gpl on that ,thou its people's fault to trust cryptic.

I've been watching this and getting more and more sure about both these points. If it helps a player, it gets "fixed" ASAP. If it's a hinderance, filed under "known issue" at best.

I wish they could extend their laziness to the helpful ones or their bravo to the annoying ones. It almost seems as if they want to make sure we don't enjoy ourselves while playing.

I think the most valid point against using them in the STF's is because the players can't stop themselves from dancing if they are too close to it when it goes off, and they can't protect themselves from enemies that are outside of it.

I was in Stasis Elite the other night and someone popped them off at node B2 - which was funny, until the Borg over at A2 started capping us in the back. We didn't whipe, but a couple of guys did drop and we missed the optional by 4 seconds.

    ----

However I have two klink side toon's doing the Droz missions last night, and someone was running around popping them off at every objective point in the station. You couldn't go anywhere without dancing along the way, it was a fun time. - snapped some pic's

Im split on the disco ball nerfing

    Pros

Im glad about the nerf as far as combat zones is concerned id be up to my eyeballs in borg happily slashing them sword in hand making borg sushi and some moron would come along drop the ball run away.

this got annoying why? i found that the ball could break an attack chain when using a melee weapon so trying to get a knock down or knock back became close to impossible when the ball was active.

    Cons

I will miss the dancing brog drones from a distance it was hillarious like those borgs trying to assimilate the deferi citizens ? it looked like a borg rave then an assimilation was funny.

best yet were dropping them in combat on my fed toon to watch the klingons dance a dancing klingon ....that was better then a dancing borg lol

In the end i dont think the balls helped players by any means as i watched borg dance their way over to some player and beat them sensless....which was funny to watch and no i didnt help them XD

Personally I feel that the use of the disco ball just before entering combat enhanced gameplay experience greatly.

Not only did it give us a groovy theme tune to fight to, but far more importantly it gave us the very vivid illusion of fluid, PvE ground combat - something that up to its inclusion had been seriously lacking withing the game - because it meant that players had to actually move their character during the enemy elimination process (which btw was the only action required by the player to negate its effects) rather than the habitual *aim, crouch, camp, fire, fire, shift position slightly to avoid flanking damage, fire, hypo, fire, secondary fire, kit ability, fire, shield charge, buff, fire, secondary fire, target dead, acquire next target, repeat from 'fire' until all dead, move again, find more enemies, repeat entire process.* There may be more or less 'fire' or 'hypo' involved depending on ability and level, but the essentials are there.

I'm truly sorry if adding some w,a,s,d and mouse activity in there was too much for you and drove you ask for precious resources to be diverted from other *see Gameplay Bug Reports Section* far less important issues.

(EDIT) Actually, scratch this whole post. I just looked at the Bugs section. Most of the first page seems to be filled with something about some Birds and Tribbles not working properly?

No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.

As a general principle, I dislike the act of nerfing. However, occasions do exist in which the act is justified.

Personally, though, I wish the things had never been implemented, as they have been too often used to annoy other players in numerous ways. Yes, they're one-use items. No, they're far from expensive enough to discourage such abuse.
