I'd get a good laugh out of that one.

But in all seriousness, ferd is right. Ship names and character names need to be brought under control! NAO!!!!

Of course this happening is inconceivable.

Laughed so hard at this one! Imagine the panic in a PUG, once someone target calls "yourself".

Here's a third one, although some might interpret this as griefing or something, since it's intentional. All 5 people on a PUGmade are called "That Guy", and have similar looking ships, all of them named "U.S.S. That Ship". They queue up for FvF Arena.

Other team:

[Team] They all look the same!

[Team] The one behind me. USS That Ship.

[Team] They are all named U.S.S. That Ship!

Great minds think alike - I was just thinking last night how awesome it would be to make a premade with all the same ships - all the same captain type - all the same name. Would be hilarious! Imagin them coing over for the beginning 5 guys of the exact same - the other players thinking there is a game bug or something!

Of course, the people on that team would have to use Teamspeak to communicate, but yeah, it would be hilarious.

I prefer the name "someone else", if I was going pull such a trick, as it makes for funny moments of Target "someone else". Damnit, Target "someone else".

I can see how such naming can confuse but I do not think naming needs to be restricted just because the variations that one can use in such a trick are near endless. How would they cover them all?

And come on, not everyone are in the same ship either.

Well, okay, there's that premade where everyone has the same name, ship name and ship class, but in that case, just say "ROAST MY TARGET."

Believe it our not... some time ago i met a ship called U.S.S. Their Escort
I was calling targets that match, and every time i called out "Their Escort", my team never knew what target i was calling out.

Was big fun though... "Target Their Escort"

I have been calling for this since beta. Bran said it is working as intended. What a load of tribble turds. I have considered never playing sto again, on thursday afternoons. I bet this exploit never gets fixed, there isn't any mney in it.

I think they should atleast put a zen price on ship names. if you do not pay, you cannot change the ship name.

sure it would be pay to win, but the state of naming ships is ridiculous as is, there is no point in denying that it is a function for exploiters, but why give it away for free. let them pay a fine for cheating atleast

and the reason it does that now is because in the past someone would spawn 15+ se3's and there was no way to figure out what the orginal one was cuz he would run around looking like them too and oh in the past we didnt have that wonderful feature now "to not target npcs"

Frankly I don't see this as any more non-legit than keybinding targets. Which after all is the only source of confusion if someone does this. U.S.S. Nerf Ship Names incoming.

I've never seen a target called on ship name.

I have seen somebody name their ship expecting them to pay attention to the name. There was a Tac that named their ship DontHealMe because they wanted GDF in a Mirror event. When nobody paid attention to the name (likely didn't see it), he complained in /team. At which point we all agreed to heal him even more.

How about a matching game?

Can you match the following ship names...

what it means:

I have seen several times, that ships are named, USS healmepls, and USS donthealmepls (possibly trying to activate GDF), USS crowdcontrol, and so on.

THIS gives a huge advantage in pugs, where you dont necessarily know your team, and not everyone has the access to the voice options. this way instant information is spread through the team, that gives them an edge, compared to the other team, who are not exploiting

also another great examples are the likes of USS asdfsadfdsafdsaf USS Schmetterling and USSdfkasjfieflkajfdij and such nonsense gibberish.

this makes even premades harder, with voice chat, as they try to coordinate attacks, and they cannot concentrate fire on that ship, as they cannot pronounce it. further more, this gives an even bigger adv against pugs and premades without voice, where you would actually have to type those names down!

I really hope, cryptic deals with those exploiters, who are taking advantage of honest players

This isn't the People's Game of Star Trek Online. Ship names add personalization to the game. Plus, you can type in the character name, let's say it's ADASADSJKASDK, once you type in ADA, ADASADSJKASDK should appear above it. Done.
