In general I would support this idea. I think given the state of the galaxy class, it sure wouldn't hurt.

But what is really needed is a two piece set bonus.

Antimatter Spread + Saucer Separation = Special bonus.

Devs you can work out the details. Just give some love towards the galaxy class fans.

I actually like the idea. We need an engineering focused carrier.

The Galaxy's main shuttlebay is large enough that it could conceivably hold at least three runabouts - the Enterprise-D offloaded DS9's first three runabouts in 'Emissary'. And we saw Picard and gang travel onboard one in that season six episode that had the Enterprise and a Romulan Warbird frozen in time (whose name escapes me atm).

So this idea gets the canon tick of a approval from me :)

The runabouts came from DS9 not the ship. Having access to pets doesnt fix the issues that engineering focused ships run into lack of ability choices.

Would be nice that the KDF got to keep engineering carrier to them selves as feds have access to tactical and science versions.

The ones in the OP's picture did, that's a still from season two's 'The Jem'hadar'. But ironically those Runabouts actually were offloaded by the Enterprise in 'Emissary'.

    Watch from 0:16-0:22.
7 fighter craft, comparable in size to a runabout, taken out in under 4 seconds.
    I'll pass on the runabouts.

Comparable in size, maybe, not power. And those ships were way behind Federation level technology.

They are from the TNG Episode Conundrum and were still using LASER weaponry.

They would still get swatted is my point.
Even in this game all you need is a decently powered FAW and you would take them out.

ST was never about fighters(shuttles). I was kind of annoyed by the focus on them so much in DS:9

It would however, lol, be awesome if she could launch a Defiant sized craft from her large saucer based shuttle bay. Similar to Odysseys trick.

Small craft are not meant to do heavy damage but to annoy the target and take fire away from the main ship while doing some damage when doing it. Carriers are meant for a support roll.

About the defiant being able to be used from a carrier I was thinkiong it would make a nice feature to have a rack nestled between the nacelles and on the hull that can be added to ships to carry a defiant. Ofcourse it would have a penalty on the main ships performance and the defiant should be a captain level version. There could also be a downside of a long launch time during wich enemies can target and destroy the defiant that is piggy backing creating a real danger of having a hull breach right on top of you that you cannot hit evasive to dodge.

The system could be a dual universal console as well. 1 for the ship and one for the rack to carry it.

This would add even more options for the galaxy with the ability to add an escort to your existing ship or buy a carrier version.
