Thought I'd separate out and make a dedicated thread to work out where would be good for the London people to meet up, since choosing this sort of thing in so big a place can be tricky work. Scotlanders and Hollanders, feel free to do the same!
Anyhow, what I thought would be a good idea was for those of us wanting to go along to say what sort of thing we want (e.g. cheap, near a mainline station, Italian, that sort of thing) - and then someone who lives in London (or Google) can decide where to meet, and pass on to Brandon for a thumbs-up.
To get the ball rolling, I'd quite like somewhere that won't break the bank, particularly if people are doing food as well as drink. Near a mainline station would be handy - if it's Victoria, even better.
Please reply here if you are going to be able to be able to make it to the London meet-up on Saturday, June 22nd. Let's plan for this to happen at 6PM local time. Feel free to come later and leave when you'd like -- I will probably stick around until 10PM or so
Also, please reply with any ideas for where would be a good spot to grab some food AND can accommodate a (potentially) large group. Here are some suggestions so far (I didn't include pubs as I'd some players may be under the age to enter):
Covent Garden (need a restuaraunt suggestion)
Wagamamas (need a location suggestion)
Leicester Square (need a restuaraunt suggestion)
Hogs Head public house, Leicester Square
Hope to see you there!
Reminder! Everyone will need to pay for their own expenses.
This just in... the location!
We're going to be meeting at Wetherspoons at Leicester Square -- this location looks like it had the most support in this thread.
Let's meet in front of the entrance -- we'll eventually move inside (or sit outside), so look for the group I won't have access to phone/ internet/ twitter service, but we'll make sure to stay either at the tables outside or inside.
PM me on the forums if you have any questions before the event begins. Hope to see you there!
Bran - how about Wetherspoons at Leicester Square - that's a bar/restaurant and very family friendly.
In the UK in bar/restaurants like Whetherspoons underage are allowed in as long as they keep to the restaurant area. Also to remember drinking age in the UK is 18 not 21 as it is in the States so I don't think there will be many issues with under age players.
'Spoons in Leicester Square sounds like a very good idea. I will endeavour to make it, but you would pick an expensive month...
On that topic, can this be done on a regular(ish) basis? That would make it easier for those of us needing longer to plan for booking days off work and/or saving money. London's not cheap; it'll cost me ?20 just to get the train from where I live (in Medway), and it's only 45 minutes to Victoria.

I'd like to put my name down as a high maybe - I have been booked in to do some overtime at work on that Saturday however it is possible I could be there for 6pm!
As an ex landlord of a pub in London, i can tell you not many will be too happy to have large groups of an unkown entitly decended on their premises, especially in central London where the anti terrorist alert is currently high. A pub will prevent anyone under the age of 16 attending unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Their is also a possibility of very large numbers of people turning up to the event, my suggestion would be a public park. Why not greenwich park, the birthplace of navigation, people can bring thier own food and their is no space limitations.
Those that wish to can move on to one of the many pubs and restaraunts in this historic part of london. Transport to greenwich is easy from any station in london, and does not limit or indeed prevent our younger players in attending.
Brandon, if you have not been to this area, you can walk to canary wharf, after visiting the greenwich observatory and the royal naval museum.
Just my thoughts on it, but i will be attending whatever the location,
PS in the current economic climate, this option is completely free other than transport costs
You know you're going to get a number of people turn up (regardless of which location) only to tell you all the things that you've done 'wrong' by them, don't you? :P
For that reason alone, I will not be attending this one.

If it was known in advance, as far as attendees were concerned, a restaurant or hall (etc) could be hired out for the evening. Get a price, split that price between those attending (maybe throw a meal into it too?). Would solve the issue of finding a suitable place that isn't outside in what might very well be bad weather (it is England).

What would you class as "large numbers"? 10? 20? 50? 100?
I think part of the problem is that we don't really know how many we're expecting. The Facebook post suggests a dozen from the number of comments saying it, or people sharing it; plus those saying yes or likely on here so far, my guess would be about 20ish.
There are often big stag and hen parties who go into pubs unannounced, London would get more than usual. Besides, I don't think there is anything less threatening than a load of Trekkies. :P
I wish I could go to this. How about another UK one in early August? That or a German one sometime else.
Damn, London is my hometown but I'm not able to be there that weekend. This sounds like a lot of fun as well - I'd love to meet up with the famous Bran. I'd recommend somewhere cheap and cheerful - somewhere like Regents park where plenty of people can come, there's not necessarily any pressure to spend money - but there're plenty of nice pubs and stuff around that area where people can go. I'd avoid making it something that people have to spend money at - then again, it's England so it'll end up in the pub anyway.
With all due respect intended Brandon, not everyone is going to know who you are. So when you decide on the restaurant, how would we find you? Also are we sitting on one big table or what? (If I come, which I may just be able to!!!)
Edit: Can someone please answer my question (sorry if I bothered you with my impatience ... just need to forward plan)
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

Wetherspoons are nasty pubs, but they're famously cheap.
I actually disagree, the standard of food in Spoons pubs has dramatically increased over the past couple of years - and if it's the one I think it is (The Moon Under Water) it's a pretty nice pub.
I'm really gutted to be out of town this weekend, I'm up in Nottingham which sucks, as I would have loved to come to this!
It really depends on the pub manager. The JD Wetherspoon website has this info:
"Children (under 16 years)
We welcome children in our pubs, until a set time each evening. This time is set at a local level, by the pub and its licence, so will vary from pub to pub; that said, it will usually be during 5?9pm.
To avoid disappointment, we suggest that you contact the pub directly, before visiting, to check when children must leave.
Children must be accompanied by a person aged 18 years or over. For their own safety, children must be supervised at all times. If any adult with children wishes to consume alcohol, then we request that all members of the party order a meal (babies and toddlers excepted).
Children are not permitted to order or consume alcohol or to play on gaming machines.
Young people (16?17 years)
The same timing restrictions which apply to children also apply to 16 to 17-year-olds.
Young people may order and consume food and non-alcoholic drinks (excluding Scotland). They are not permitted to order or consume alcohol or to play on gaming machines."
To make sure you might want to contact the pub and ask.
#2, not sure Depends on how many make it out. If we need multiple, I'll venture between all the tables/ maybe we can have them near each other so we can hear one another.

Don't know what The Moon will be like, but my local pub is happy to have tables moved together if numbers require it
I may make this... there was a leaving do for a person I've never met down in Devon... but that's a bit of a hike. 6pm start makes all the difference. Because the last trains out of Nodnol leave stupidly early for visitors, a 7pm start would leave bout 2 hours.
well now there are several factors going against me ever coming to the event. its logistically impossible so late in the day being the biggest factor burying any hopes. thats a shame.
i just hope next time the meet up can be a bit more accessible to reach then london.

Seconded! Plus easy to get to, and they tend to have plenty of room.

The Shakespeare's Head in Holborn is a good pub. I'm part of a scifi group that meets there once a month and it's always very friendly.
