I'm a stickler for little details, and this one has bugged me since I noticed it--Earth is not moving. Earth Spacedock is presumably in a La Grange point, meaning it is a stationary station, so Earth should be moving outside of the window. If it is in a geostationary orbit, then the stars behind Earth should be slowly moving.
This is a very minor issue in the larger scheme of things, but it'd be nice if it were addressed.
If not rotate at least bigger. The damn thing is small compared to ESD.If ESD was made with iron from earth then Earth must be hollow because they used all iron it it lol
Actually, since ESD is supposedly in a Geosynchronous Orbit (or Geostationary Earth Orbit, if you like) above the Earth, the fact that the earths movement can't be seen from the inside, is easily explainable.
(it doesn't explain why ships around the earth can't see it turn, but, cest la vie)

Hmmm should the Earth rotate to be honest am not that fussed since am not usually hanging in the sol system long enough to be really bothered by it plus its a static model, unless Cryptic decide to radically upgrade their graphics engine so it was more on par with Eve online or Planet Side 2 then I would say the likely hood of that happening to be low at the moment.
On the other side of that most people at this moment in time would rather have a more stable and less buggy game rather than the Earth rotating lol.
Oh for sure, this is a minor issue. I did not know they had already said it is not possible, which is a shame.
If ESD is in geo-synchronous orbit, the stars behind the planet would still be moving, by the way. The station itself is also shown to be rotating in the shows.
Of course, there is also the graphical issue of the gigantic windows on ESD that are not visible from the exterior of the station...
It's an issue with celestial object motion being out of synch with what the skyfiles and maps can actually accomplish. I'll see if I can dig up the thread in which Taco explained it...

That's very interesting. Thank you for linking me, stirling.
Those guys are asking for much more detail than I was thinking of. I wouldn't have even thought to time the period of rotation of the Earth or Moon, I'd have just looked outside, seen them moving, and thought, "Cool!"
Before I realize the Earth was not moving below ESD, I used to come back every so often to see if the light/dark divide moved over the surface of the planet (maybe timed based on in-game time). But it didn't.
Like I've said before though, it is a minor issue.

Ok... but then the sun will have to be seen from different positions at different times.

That would be great and i have often wondered about it. Im glad you made this thread as it allowed me to discover the other interesting thread also. maybe someday...
How cool would it be if not only could you buy land in the federation planets but also build on to them? Imagine being able to build your own homes, city, or even country. I think it would be cool to have a city in the federation that produces goods like materials used for space ship productions and such. I think it would add into the interactions of the entire game and maybe with the multiplayer universe. Remember in the STNG episode "Family" when Picard was offered a new position on earth? Well I think it would be cool to add to that. For example you buy a nice land on Mars for example. And build yourself state of the art shield producers. And you use your ship crew to help build on that.
Or even better it would be nice if you had like specific architect designs developed by actual players that can buy and sell from each other. And like different construct different materials required to build certain things. How cool would that be? Imagine doing a long mission, then going to your house to relax.
Imagine how you would be defending your planet that you worked so hard to build. It would defiantly in my opinion add flavor to the game.
You'd probably get better feedback on your ideas if you created a thread for the topic, seeing as that has nothing to do with the graphical question of in-game objects rotating.
At least one of your ideas has some in-game near-equivalent, and I'm sure others would like to discuss it. I just don't want this thread hijacked.

Do you know how hard it was to put life into maps? Making earth rotate?

Oh well, thanks for the responses.
