stargate music is not really that epic like babylon5 or star wars music either. but then again i have heard them so many times its like i dont hear em at all.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
STILL one of my all time favourite shows, even if the quality has come down these past eight years. The theme hasn't changed too much either over its history.
Seconded. The theme, that is. I always loved how the original theme, back in the 60s, was an innovative piece of electronic music; so obviously when they brought it back they used an orchestra. The thought still makes me smile.

We have differences. May we, together, become greater than the sum of both of us.
I've always liked the Thunderbirds and Stingray themes. Additionally, the intro's to both shows were always great - typical of Gerry Anderson's storytelling; stuff just randomly blows up for no reason other than "let's have **** exploding in our intro."
That said, the Best Intro Song IMO? Got to be Firefly. Or the Serenity theme from Serenity.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
Doctor Who.
The fact that no one has mentioned this makes me incredibly sad.
Agreed, not to mention its the only one mentioned in this thread that broke new ground, both musically and technologically when it was first assembled from little snippets of spliced reel-to-reel tapes. SciFi theme, and (for its time) SciFi technology.
The Orbital cover of the song shows that with modernized sounds its still a genius piece of electronica.
My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--"

This would probably be mine as well. I love how B5 did new opening sequences for every season, and Season 4 had the best remix of that music.
That said, the monologue for Season 3 and its accompanying visuals (especially that first ten seconds or so, holy hell) gives me goosebumps on every viewing, so that would be my favourite opening overall for B5.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...
- Anne Bredon
Man, that puts CHILLS down my spine. Beats the other theme they later used for the show absolutely senseless.
Agreed. I quite like the version used for the UK broadcasts, but this one's far superior. Bear McCreary's a fantastic composer, I like the fact that he's capable of putting together really beautiful classical stuff with more modern influences in a way that just seems right somehow. Case in point; the Defiance Theme - strings and dubstep? Awesome.
We are PWE. Your forums and game accounts will be added to our own. Your community will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
I am surprised it's only been mentioned once so far, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KilBvojsMdw is the music I hear in my mind everytime I take my fed characters out in STO.
Quite the copycat, but I'm with the Who crowd. Specifically the last of Pertwee, first of Baker, from the set linked earlier on. Several episodes of "JIT" (just in time) anticipation would motivate me through a whole week, and the finale left me smiling on into the next mini-series. Most of my day was bookended by that tune.
Quite unlike the youth of today, who get self-contained episodes of reality rubbish, living in the instant for not an instant more.
And those hikes to school downhill both ways. Cardboard boxes without gravel. Ptah. Phooey.

Since we brought it up, how about the soundtrack to Macross: Do You Remember Love? Particularly the opening theme?

Gundam 0083: My favorite Gundam series. I personally like the first opening theme, "The Winner."

Or how about this blas from the past.
I guess this one falls under "sci-fi". >_>
I'm dating myself, but I grew up loving this one.
Occam's Razor makes the cutting clean.
Oh good god no! The english version of Captain Harlock is EARSPLITTING. You have to have the original. You just gotta have the original.
I mentioned I had more, and nows a good time as any.
Sticking with the anime theme, the openings of Galaxy Railways, and Galaxy Express 999 are amazing as well.
The series itself was pretty mediocre, but the opening to Cosmo Warrior Zero was just all kinds of awesome. It's so pretty.
Leaving anime for a bit, how come no one has mentioned Blade Runner yet? That's all kinds of awesome.
And no one's mentioned Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, Knight Rider, or Last Starfighter yet either? I am seriously disappoint here Gentlemen.
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR KNOWING THIS.
I'm so proud... It brings tears to my eyes. :')
I love this theme too.
If you like it, you got to listen to the NBSG colonial anthem (which is a modification of the 1978 BSG theme).

The louder the better, IMHO.

For a fun Babylon 5 drinking game, take a drink whenever you hear the "anvil strike" sound effect.
As for other stuff...
Total Recall - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjts5DrcdiU
Doctor Who (2013 version, in my opinion one of the best they've ever done) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QGbsNIZ-uo
Wrath of Khan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sofU3EMa4xc
Mass Effect - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVm_ljDSdwA
Blade Runner - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAwo7DPUFUM
I did mention Jurassic Park. And someone else said linked Knight Rider...
Oh, and lest we forget...
And also: (I mean come on, talk about capturing the spirit of the show.)
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

To bookend it, here's the Babylon 5 final end credits. (Contains first and final appearances of most of the main cast, so again... spoiler alert.)
Surprised nobody thought of this one yet, either.
Definitely sci-fi this time.
Just completely knocked out that nobody's mentioned this song yet, either. Or this one.
Say what you want, I liked this movie.
I suppose it qualifies as sci-fi?

I really love this one. It's so soothing. Or, for something with a little more go.
Stargate SG1, Which is also one of my favorite SciFi shows.
