EC cap removal

blunted74blunted74 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I have a question. I am currently a gold member, however, I am thinking about cancelling my subscription. Can you purchase the EC cap removal while subscribing to ensure a smooth transition from gold to silver?

Thank you.

This is incorrect. When you Transition from 'Gold' to 'Silver' status, your EC cap limit drops from 1 Billion to 10 Million ECs

I don't believe you can can purchase the EC cap extension while your status is still 'Gold'. However, when you transition from 'Gold' to 'Silver' you do not lose any ECs over the 'Silver' cap limit, (its just that you can't gain any ECs while over the 'Silver' cap limit)

When you transition to 'Silver', you can quickly log on, don't claim anything, make your EC cap increase purchase, log off, then wait 15 to 20 minutes just to make sure the purchase has time to register. If you do this, you shouldn't have any problems...

I swear I remember seeing on this site somewhere what you keep and lose when you go from gold to silver but cant find it. I did however find this from another site posted 6 months ago.

When you go gold, you get the following:

Expanded Inventory and Bank (it will increase by rank, retroactive) *
    Account Bank
    Removed EC cap
    2 more character slots
More Boff slots (forget exactly how many, also increases by rank, retroactive) *
a 500z stipend (assuming you were a member for at least 30 days)
    At least 1 Foundry slot
1 character-locked respec per rank earned while Gold (this isn't retroactive) *
    Priority login
    XMPP chat

*Tied to the actual rank-up mission, not your level, that's important.

I think that covers it. You might also get ship slots, but I can't remember.

When you drop from gold, you lose the following:

EC cap removal, but you keep any EC over the cap. You just can't get more until you're under the cap. If you bought the cap increase, that supersedes this.
    The Foundry slot
Priority login (not that it's usually an issue in STO)
    XMPP chat
You'll no longer earn Respecs (but won't lose them), and won't get more Inventory and Bank slots (but won't lose what you have)
Your 3rd character slot becomes sort of non-permanent. If it wasn't filled, you'll lose it, but if it was, you keep the toon. But if you delete a toon, you won't get a slot back. There's some debate about this.

I started as F2P and all it took was to shut game down completely then reload and I had the extra.

Thats the way its suppose to work when you purchase the EC cap increase... However, if you do this during a period of extreme Server or Network stress, then normal expected behavior is not guaranteed...

Thank you for the replies! I just started playing a couple weeks ago, and went gold to get the inventory slots, respec tokens, etc. I am probably drop to silver and just buy unlocks(inventory, doffs, EC) as needed.

I was concerned about losing EC, however, it may be a non issue as I do not have 10 mil as of yet, but was thinking of throwing some keys on the exchange to get a ship I wanted.

I went from gold to silver and I kept:

    EC cap increase
    Inventory space bonuses
    Bank space bonuses
Queue priority (this may be a bug)
The bonus respect marks from leveling

When I checked the store, it has the ec cap flagged as Purchased, so i would imagine that you get to keep it after downgrading to silver, as guilli88 had suggested.

I went from gold to silver and lost the items highlighted above. I did not lose my EC I had over 10 million but I also couldn't earn any more EC until I dropped below the 10 million. I ended up losing a couple of million EC when I sold a VR doff on the exchange, needless to say right after that happened I bought the EC cap increase.

This is a false positive. it shows as Purchased because its already in effect as part of your 'Gold' account status. Like I said earlier, I don't believe you can purchase when your still 'Gold' because of this...

However, this will change when you transition to 'Silver'...

Well if what persephone51313 is saying is true, it's not the end of the world. I just wanted to make sure nothing was lost.

It could be that my account was still flagged as gold (I may have been off by a few days). I'm a LTS now, so I can no longer verify if I kept it as a silver.

If the question exist, I've learned in this game to cover your rear end. The support has been found wanting for years. Best solution IMO, give the EC to a friend to hold until your account becomes silver. At that point you'll know with no loss of resources.

Daft question time: Does the EC in the account bank count towards the cap? If not then you can use that to store the extra or to move it to other characters below the cap as a temp measure.
