None of the Warbird-exclusive consoles require any specific kind of weapon, the only one off the top of my head that even deals with energy weapons is the Valdore's shield absorb buff. I use disruptors and that works fine. Likely going to be going Nanite Disruptors at Subadmiral 2.
I ask, because I always thought it was canon to use disruptors energy weapons, with plasma torpedos.
Plus I'm not a huge fan of plasma beams.
Does anyone know if there is there a drawback to using disruptors with any of the singularity consoles?
What kind of energy weapons is everyone using on their warbirds?
Currently I'm fond of multi dual beam bank Faw 'wall of pew' with a photon torpedo side dish but most likely later I'll go the boring but effective escort-esque dhc+turret loadout when my turn rate is more akin to my kdf bop
As to flavor, I'll likely stick with plasma as its fairly cheap to get a decent set for pveing, or for fun maybe get a set of those plasma disruptor dhcs by running a few replays
As to the warbirds...my god, they feel like a kdf bop running a god mode cheat compared to my kdf starter norgh...
My "long term" objective is to maximize Rom rep and equip the D'Deridex retrofit with the romulan set (console, torpedo, beam), the romulan engines, shields and deflector, and Mk XII weapons from the romulan store. But since it will take some time, I may change my mind in the meantime.
Role-play is neither recognized nor rewarded by the game, instead it recognizes and rewards high damage output. So ... I'll use some flavor of Disruptor on the Tac captain, and some flavor of Polaron on my Sci captain, just like I do with the other factions.
Plasma currently, although I'm likely to make the switch to disruptors at 50. Then again, there are some disruptor-plasma hybrid weapons around too. I'm not sure I buy into Geko's reasoning for why the Republic is using Plasma weaponry and thats why I'm looking to change over.
I saw a Mogai sporting a full set of phaser based weapons and it just made me cringe. To each their own though.
I also prefer a more canon approach over a "most powerful" approach in general.. hence.. Disruptors/Nanite Disruptors + Bio Molecular Torp. (looks best/most canon imho).
"We might get pretty singed at that range, but not as singed as they're going to get. Engage."
- Captain Six of Nine aka Ashley "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell
I too follow a more "canon" appearance to my ship. I'm running a Mogai with Hybrid Plasma-Disruptor Dual Heavy Cannons and a Bio-Molecular Torpedo up front and Disruptor Turrets in back.
Since in canon the Romulans use disruptors and in-game canon the Republic uses plasma I figured I would combine the two and use the hybrid weapon type.
Disruptors all the way. Too many ways to remove the Plasma DOT, and too many shields with plasma resists. It is unfortunate for the Romulans that the Borg used plasma.

Well, I always tend to make canon setups for my ships, it's more fulfilling that way for me. In the shows, Romulans used disruptors with plasma torps. So on my Romulan ships I have a set of disruptors & plasma torps, but I have another set of plasma weapons because that's obviously what the Romulan Republic uses in STO, so I switch between them. And the colour is not that much different as if I used, let's say - phasers for ex.
I also plan to get a third set of weapons for my warbirds, the nanite disruptors, but I still need to work on that.
I like my when my warbird fires to resemble the ones I've seen in the shows.
I originally planned to take the "canon zomg" approach, but plasma kinda grew on me as I went. Finally I figured, since this is the RR and not the RSE, and since plasma beams are still kind of greenish, I went ahead and decided to stick with the canon the game provides; RSE still uses disruptors, but refugees and the RR have switched to plasma for some reason.
Besides, I do like that both the ships and weapons of each faction I play are visibly distinct by doing it this way.

Well they are kind of Unificationists, and the vulcans seem to use plasma too. Perhaps they are mimicking them.
Me? I'll be using fleet antiprotons, because they go well with the high Romulan operative critical chance bonus.
Photon torps to go with them until I get the Hyper plasma.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
Plasma at the moment and a photon torpedo launcher. I will switch to Mk12 Romulan rep weapons when I have unlocked the reputation but probably keep the photon launcher.
Since the changes to STFs, spheres have the annoying tendency to outrun slower travelling torpedos, so the Romulan hyper torpedos are not that good of a choice anymore.
I'm using the phaser dual heavies on my Mogia Retrofit.
Not because of the color
Not because of the proc But because they are only cannons whose sound effect I can tolerate!
have plasma heavies on my Orion's Fl'orcha and I end up muting the sound most of the time. Same with with Klingon tac who sports disruptor cannons.
But I do like the sound of the plasma beam weapons though.
hate tetryon sound effect the most (beam and cannon!)
I'm weird that way
We still live!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaa! We live and we will conquer!!!!! Hahahahahaaha!

My Romulan (currently in a Mogai) is using Plasma Dual Beams-Plasma Turrets-Plasma Torpedo. Since Cryptic redid the Plasma animations, I like them alot more than I used to. The launch animations for Plasma were hideous.
My Reman is currently in a gifted K'tinga, courtesy of the KDF, and he's using Disruptors and Photon Torpedoes. Eventually he'll be in a D'Deridex, and will likely use Disruptors and Plasma Torpedoes.

Till subadmiral II i was using crafted disruptors made by my Klink. Low lvl gear was too overpriced on exchange. Now i swaped to plasma and will keep it upgrading to romulan version with borg cuting beam for 2 parts bonus.
I was never too hot on the whole Plasma Energy Weapons thing. Plus, Romulan warships shoot green disruptors in the shows and stuff. Not blue plasma. So far I've gone for regular Disruptors or Polarized Disruptors in either beam or cannon stylings. You cannot go wrong with resist reduction.
Plasma, switching to Romulan Plasma as I advance through the reputation grind. Nanite Disruptors do look neat, but far too annoying to acquire a working set.
Currently grinding some of that Caustic Plasma gear, should last me quite well untill i got all the reputation stuff done which will take quite some time.
Tried out the Haakona, but switched back to the Tvaro Retrofit, depending on the mission at hand, plasma turrets on the back, and either 3 turrets + plasma torp in front, or dual cannons alongside the 3 turrrets in the rear.
Those subspace jumping elachi are best served with 6 turrets to cook em in their shellz.

Watch the market you'd be surprised how much it fluctuates. Was buying some MK XII for under 100k.

currently the nanite disruptor beams will switch to fleet as soon as i have enough FC and dilithium

when I hit commander I will likely start actually buying weapons and going disruptor. Not really sure what I want to do with torpedos.

another ship will get disruptors. it's canon and has the best proc!
Waiting on the STF Romulan weapons though .
