I wish you had told me that all Romulan and Reman were supposed to be engineers. I would have made him an engineer rather than a tac officer. I see there's still no love for sci officers, either. Now I'm stuck in an engineer's ship and lose my top tac skills. I get all of 2 tac skills. Wasted my slot making him a tac, I guess. If you wanted to go all cheap on the ships you COULD have given us universal consoles. I guess it's too much to ask of PWE to actually have ships that fit the classes people play.
Lot of hype for this expansion, but I just ain't feelin it.
Most of the Romulan ships do secondary science, as far as BOff layout. I'm quite happily playing a Romulan science officer.
And whether they primary Tactical or Engineering depends on which ship they are... the D'deridex is an engineering ship, the T'varo is a tactical ship, and they're both flyable at VAdm.
Just hit commander and found the only ship available was for engineers, at least til I hit VA. I also understand that my VA won't have access to, since I'm kdf allied, the guramba that I already bought for my kdf tac. Because the rom tac ships for that level just don't turn me on that much.
I was wondering why I was seeing so many d'diderex' around, thought everyone had decided to make their rom an enginee. It didn't occur to me that they weren't, they were just forced to play like one.
Also, they posted the stats of all of the Romulan ships in the Dev Blogs. A little research would have revealed a lot.
At Commander? Yeah, Romulans are stuck with an Engineering ship... or an allied ship, which they can totally use and thus sidestep that. Of course, Tactical Cruiser is something I've seen used to great effect in level-capped and lower-level content, so I still don't see why it's a problem.
If it is? Grab a bird of prey or a raptor from your ally to use 'till you get to VAdm and can grab a warbird escort.
The thing is, besides those very few ships we are given, we have to pay to use any ally's ship.
Why not allow us to use our ship token on one of those as well?
I am still not understanding why only one choice of tier 1-4 ships as our free ship choice. Feds have tons more and Klingons have more than Romulans.
I thought you could use your ship tokens for allied ships... I haven't been terribly interested in flying them, so I haven't tried. Plus, I'm playing Fed-Rom, and have the CStore unlocks for most of the pre-T5 Federation ships.
If you can't use your token, that's a bit more problematic, but still not insurmountable.

Because you have to start somewhere.
You can't expect the Romulans to have the same amount of content as the Feds or even the Klinks right from the get go, this is an MMO, you build it up slowly.
2 years from now the Romulans will have infinitely more content then they do now.

Because the "Community" b*tched, whined and complained that the original plan was to allow all five tiers to the Roms.. but they got backlash stating.. "Neither the Feds or the Klingons would *ever* allow the Romulans access to their top tier weapons and ships...."
So, blame the "community" for that one.. not the Devs. They were only doing it to appease the masses.
Allow the Roms access to to those ships but deny the feds/klings from claiming Rom ships? Yeah like that was going to happen. And the counter argument of allowing everyone access to any factions ships is even less likely to ever happen. :P
Which is why lock box ships are just stupid... Tell me a rational reason why a Fed Admiral or Klingon Brigadier General can fly a Dominion ship.. a Tholian ship.. a Cardassian ship.. Hell, *now* they can fly Tal Shiar ships, with BORG TECHNOLOGY.. Buy they can't fly a D'Deridex or Valdore?
With their introduction of the lock box ships, the whole idea of "ship ownership" went right out the window, as far as I'm concerned.

And I bet a lot of these same guys are finding out that they screwed themselves, too. Humans just don't seem capable of thinking ahead, sometimes.

Prize ships... as in, captured enemy vessels. They've been a thing through pretty much all of history... and all of those groups have factions the Federation and KDF are already in open hostilities with.
I'm Tactical and I used my Excelsior at Subcommander level. So far, flying the D'Deridex at Commander level hasn't been too much of a problem (I'm also using the scaling retrofit phasers so I don't need to buy new weapons every level). :P

i agree that having ONE option, without any kitbashing options makes it a little much stupid flying around, seeing the same shiptype above EVERY Planet the Romulan Story Campaign sends you to.
I did not like the Tier 2 ship (blocky engine exhausts *ugh*... looks like a Chickenbird not like a Warbird...) so i stayed in the starter TOS Bird of Prey, ...wow i feel so UNIQUE flying around in that thing while EVERYBODY else is in the same free Tier 2 ship... with the odd one out who paid for the C-Store +1 Version.
Even weirder is that in the Story the NPC asks me if i like my new ship? I DID NOT! therefore i do not fly it and your question is INVALID.
Well, to extend the prize ship logic. The Guramba, for instance, is a Nausican made ship. Nausicans are notoriously piratic and mercenary and would sell their ships to the highest bidder, regardless of faction. (Of course this is all just to "play along" with the game's inherent storylines and factions.)
But all in all I'm rather disappointed and feel like I'm not being allowed to play my character to his fullest potential, but as a hybrid engineer rather than a tac. I guess my biggest problem is losing torp spread III because the console doesn't even allow for a Lt Commander much less a Commander level Boff.

For the Tribble version, I used the T'Varo.. and Tovan definitely has access to his Torp III ability... I have run Engies and Scis throughout my three-year "career" .. I have one Tac to end cap, just to have one, but I've always hated the escorts (blasphemy, I know...) But I LOVED the T'Varo.. maneuverable.. fast.. and with the Singularity abilities... capable of keeping itself alive rather well too.
Now, that's strictly PvE.. another blasphemy is I don't PvP... But seriously, before you kick the sand with eyes down.. give the T'Varo a go...

I already have the zen to buy a VA ship, haven't decided yet which one. That's not what is bothering me. That's at VA, but as a commander I'm basically forced to fly with one hand tied behind my back. But the choices at VA are not much either, for that matter, especially with the KDF and Fed VA ships taken off the table.

I have been in love with the D'Deridex since I first saw it on TNG back on May 16, 1988...
When Cryptic announced they were taking over production after Perpetual went belly-up, I was ALL excited about the possibility of flying that ship... once the game was "live" ... Through development, it was announced that game play would be Fed centric, with Klingons unlocked at level 10 for PvP players... It was with a saddened heart that I continued on.. playing in both the closed and open betas. I pre-ordered the LTS before launch, and have been patiently waiting.
Every mission fighting the Romulans/Remens made me 'green with envy' and still, I carried on...
Then they announced LoR... I was so excited.. you just wouldn't believe.. Then I tested the D'D in the closed beta and I felt my heart just rip from my chest... Yes, it LOOKS amazing.. and it was "ok" when cloaked.. but.. damn, it's like wading in quick-dry cement after an hour...
So, When I hit Commander.. I stuck with the Mogai... Now gonna be hittin' the Valdore.
All that was just a long-winded.. "I feel your pain, for not having access to the ship you envisioned..."
With any luck tho.. The Dev's will fill out some other ships down the line... Game-wise, I think LoR is *the best* I've seen Cryptic release in years... So I feel they'll come up with some interesting stuff... Story-wise.. The Roms and Remans are very Tech-Savy (as evidenced by their creation of the cloaking device, and the creation of the Schimitar <drool>) Soooo, being allied with the Feds and Klinks, is bound to spark some imaginations in their technology... :P
I started this game when it launched, but being a bit of a power gamer I ran through virtually all of the content within the first couple of months and got bored and left.
I came back when the F2P started but I'm no great fan of that model because it's all about finding ways to get you to swipe your card. The subscription model is more honest and those games are more likely to be developed by people that love the game, not the money. F2P is all about being creative....at getting your money. This expansion seemed nice from the hype, but now seems very bare boned and stripped down. It's all very.....Chinese. (I say this because I've been there.) They are giving me the bare minimum that they think they can get away with. It's a let down.
In fact I haven't really been happy with any of the games, lately. I still sub Lotro, but mostly because I was lucky enough to be in the first batch of closed beta testers for that one and feel a bit of loyalty and nostalgia. Most of the other games have been a disappointment. NW has a lot of problems and champions as well. Swtor had potential but they blew it by throwing too much money at one aspect and not enough at other aspects. The fact that they are all theme parks, now, with no sandbox elements makes them too linear. WoW I was never even tempted to try, thanks. Fallen Earth was cool and I really liked it, but they kept TRIBBLE with it til they made it too generic to suit the pvp crowd who kept crying for balance when the only true balance for pvp is stock cars. Everyone gets the same char and the same gear and the same skills...and that's what they got. I notice no one is ever in the game any more, though.
The way i look at the ship options is like poker, i may be tactical and the d'deridex may favour engi layout but that's the hand i've been dealt, just play the game and think of the best strategy to win.

Are you serious?
If the Romulan players had been able to fly any and all top-level Fed or KDF ships, while also having access to their own, then from a gameplay balance perspective there would be no reason to be anything but Romulan.
It's a balance decision that needed to happen to prevent Fed and KDF players from becoming unfairly handicapped in their ship choices compared to Romulans.
Just because you want something doesn't mean you should have it.

No argument there, from me at least...

A good rule of thumb for game design...

On my fed tac joined trill. I flew all the way to VA in a Nova.
Not even the Rhode Island, that hadn't been released yet. :P
