Has anyone tried both sides? What are the advantages of one side over the other? I might do one Romulan on each side, just to get the experience of both.
I'm interested in hearing about which side you chose to ally with and why.
I went fed myself, mostly because my main is fed and most of the items I've bought via C-store are fed based. Another factor is our fleet on the fed side is more developed as far as starbase and such goes.
I do plan to roll a KDF-Romulan here soon, and properly a new KDF toon as well to see the new changes. Especially now i can change the red ui
Yes, you do if you want to advance beyond that mission. I wish we didn't have to. I would rather stay neutral for the time being. It would be nice if the other faction assents become open once the Romulan character hits Admiral. I fail to see why members of the Republic would not be invited to join the Omega Force Alliance in much the same way the Romulans joined the Fed/KDF alliance against the Dominion.
KDF all the way a much more fun experience with a much friendlier community. Just look at Zone chat in ESD there are people bullying new players who are asking a simple question but on Qo'Nos you see 12 people jump in offering help some even offering to team up and help them through the missions.
The community is what makes the KDF and all my Romulans are going to go KDF for this reason. The KDF also got the first T5 fleet which is awesome.
Support the Game by Supporting the KDF, equality and uniqueness for all factions!

I have found this too but this may change now that noobs are able to play KDF from level 1. The requirement of getting a fed to level 25 meant that the quality of the average KDF player was higher but that is no longer a requirement to play KDF.
But are there things you want to be able to do in game as a rommie that are supported better by one side or the other?
I think cloaking may be a factor that drives me towards KDF but I wonder if there is more.
The storyline seems to point the player towards the KDF, and if I didn't already have several Federation alts in a fleet, I would totally have chosen the KDF as my ally. However, since I'm in a very small fleet, with several alts, it made more sense as a player to get my Romulan character into the same fleet to help with the project supplies.

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!
I went Fed. The KDF honestly didn't seem that interested in an alliance during the story mission and most of the stuff I have bought from the C Store is for the Federation. Also with the Federation being a more developed I felt I'd get more bang for my buck from allying with the Federation.
I chose Klingon for several reasons.
Firstly, having allied with the Feds on tribble, I wanted a change.
Also, I haven't really bought any lower tier C-store ships, aside from the captain level escorts with Quad Core Cannons for each faction, and I thought it would make more sense for a Romulan to fire disruptors than phasers.
Lastly, I think the Klingons make the most sense in terms of the story; they are the ones who assist us with the Elachi and Romulans at Khitomer, they have been allied with the Romulans before, they changed their opinion on the Romulans after Temer's sacrifice, and unlike the Federation, they haven't got a prime directive to tie their hands when we need assistance.

The Federation uniforms are a bit weird for me, especially around the collar. Version 2 seems to be the worst, the material of the jacket and the shirt don't match at all at the neck, and it just looks like a model error.

KDF
Marauding feels more rewarding for me.
Might get orion slavers on T5 romie carrier. (there is a t4 klink carrier allowing to get them in theory)
More dakka content. Who wants to pick flowers for exploration daily.

I don't think this will be a big factor. The smaller faction size actually seems to keep out the rif-raf for the most part. It was much the same on City of Heroes - the Villain side was always friendly and helpful on a personal level. The jackarse players were mostly hero-side. So I'd expect KDF to stay pretty helpful in general (tho there will always be exceptions)
KDF first - closest thing to the RSE a Romulan will get.
Problem is that requires getting close to stinky kllivam pigdogs. Ugh. My first 'Romulan' character is a KDF 'alien'. She spends most of her time shoving Klinks and Nausicaans out the nearest airlock. Being a DOff on her crew is definitely hazardous duty.

I even wrote a bio for my Rom. The first time I've bothered, out of four toons.
Though only a youth at the time of the Hobus event, Amril Nazuul remembers well the days of the Empire and his dreams of one day serving in it's glory.
The current situation leaving him little choice but to work with the Romulan Republic, he allies himself closely with the Klingon Empire. Drawn more to their militaristic discipline, than the Federations fuzzy diplomacy, he uses this opportunity to kindle the flame of the old ways in his people. And he waits. And he prepares for the day. The day when the galaxy feels the might of...
KDF. Disruptors, alternate ships with cloaks, marauding.
And at least they were allies once before.

Yes. Lots and lots of opportunity for raiding and pillaging! Starfleet does a terrible job protecting the territory. I can fly right up to Sol and sit outside.
Both sides have their 'in-universe' reason to go with them (D'Tan is a Reunificationist, so he'd be pro-Vulcan and thus Pro-Federation; while, as others have said, there was the alliance between the two Empires in the 23rd century.)...
So - I'm probably going to make two characters and try them both.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

If anything i think the previous alliance between Romulus and the Klingon Empire is working against a new alliance.
There was betrayal before and the mistrust between both sides runs deep as can be seen in TNG and DS9 series.
For me i find the Federation the more attractive and friendly side. Trash talk in zone chat happens everywhere. That's why the fist thing you do is turn zone/local chat off.
I'll be going federation with my romulan science officer. Aside from preferring federation gameplay, the Romulan republic led by D'Tan is trying to move away from the old xenophobic ways filled with deception and i can't see how they could ally themselves with a currently aggressive and xenophobic empire like the Klingons.
Sure there not as much contraband, but other missions more than make up for that.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

For the most part, yes. However, there are a few bad apples that like to bully others. Especially players of the other side (and sadly, I can't name and shame them to stop the cyber bullying ). Each faction is what you make of it, and thankfully MOST of the KDF players are not rabble.
My Romulan engineer is more interested in building than fighting, and hopes for eventual peace for New Romulus. She's allying with the Federation. Endless warfare does not fit in to her long range schemes. Plans. I mean plans.
My Reman tactical officer wants to remove the Tal Shiar from existence, and is happy to continue fighting alongside the Klingons indefinitely if they will help her deal with the Tal Shiar.

I do plan on doing another Romulan to try the Imperial side, and see what they're options are. If that allows for alliances, I'll probably do KDF.

Most stuff I have C-stored is Fed but I will def be rolling another Rommie for Klink.
My Fed-Rom is a Tac so maybe try Eng with Klink-rom although Rom do seems geared towards Tacs unless its just me
