This is kind of a min/maxing thread so let the debate start.
I am thinking of going tact to benefit the most of the cloak and front load damage on targets that the battle cloak affords you, but I wonder if science ship with battle cloak might be better. What do you guys think? Now we are thinking Romulans warbirds here not all the other ships, because I am sure there will be answers all over the board if you include every ship. So what do you guys think?
Having a fed engi and a fed sci, and a kling tac, im going engi for my rommy. It's the one that suits my playstyle the most, and the one I have the most fun with. So my D'deridex is gonna be going around tanking like Romulas depends on it!

I'm considering a science captain and aiming for a Fleet D'Deridex, the lt cmdr tac and sci with a cmdr engy just seems to call out to me, more so with the EPTX changes and not being able to dual cycle (unless that has changed recent and I missed it).
I do need to look over the class passives being added as trait choices before I make up my mind and go sci though.
As I said elsewhere, my first Fed was an Engineer, my first KD was a Tactical, so my first Rom will be Science.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
With the changes to the Traits system, I think I'm going to have to give all three paths a try. At the moment, I have definate Eng leanings since the Turrets, Drones and occasional Orbital Strike support my playing style well, but I don't know how that'll hold up after LoR is released and the changes that come with it...

You ask about career choices and then bring up "min/max"? Just how many different "tactical" careers are there in STO?
To heck with min/maxing, eSTFs and competitive PvP, I'm going to roll a Romulan for each career and finally enjoy playing MY game MY way with MY favorite fRaction! :P
Oh yeah, and I WILL be commanding a D'deridex on at least one of Romulans if not all of them! :P
I'm with thecosmic1, my first Fed was Eng, my first KDF was Sci, so my first Romulan will be Tac. And because I can't stick to established wisdom, I'll be puting her in a D'deridex end game. Either with beams or cannons.
After that, I'm planning at least one of each of the other two classes. I'm thinking a Reman sci and a Romulan engineer. But we will see.
I already have 19 characters spread over 2 factions and all three careers...although with a slight preference for tactical.
Right now, I'm not sure what to choose for my first Romulan.... I want him to fly the D'deridex though..... Probably Tac.... now for the ally.... so many choices and things to consider....
All of my Romulans (and Remans) will be tactical. I'm planning on getting 4 extra character slots on Tuesday along with the Tier 3 Mogai Refit (Valdore Class) and the Tier 5 Mogai Retrofit.
i will be making a fed\rom and a kdf\rom... one will be sci the other tac, though i still have not decided which will be which :P as to the poster that says sci can't dps.... i say lolololol!!!!! though sci's can't get the spike damage a tac can with stacking attack patterns they do have sufficient de-buffing abilities and do quite well thank you. :P
Don't know why it says i'm an ARC user. i will never use that TRIBBLE Cryptic!

Then you have to level pretty fast to buy those ships, minimum rank and all. The imploding server won't help much with that too. :P:D
I was thinking of opening a chain of fast food restaurants called RomDonalds or Rommie King! Sell Romulan specialites at discounted prices. Perfect for the busy Centurion all the way up to Vice Admiral!
You know, I should get ahold of Grand Nagus Rom and see if he wants in on RomDonalds! It will be a latinum mine!
I'm doing Sci. I've already got a fully equipped Engi on FED, an "okay" Sci on FED, and a an "okay" Tac on KDF and FED. Time for another Sci (perhaps healer Sci?).

The more I think about it, the more I believe that I will go science again.
The T'Varo refit with the destabilized plasma torp and ability to fire torps while cloaked, coupled with Mask Energy Signature, Jam Sensors, and perhaps a Gravity Well thrown in for kicks, sounds too fun to pass up.
Does anyone know what the new career path abilities, like sensor scan and attack pattern alpha, are? I heard they all changed.
If I'm not mistaken, the career abilities are the same as they always were. The traits you got to pick at character creation (Warp Theorist, Evasive, etc.) are handled differently now. You start with a couple for your race/career combination, then you get to pick an extra trait every 10 levels.

my main Tac will certainly aim for the Fleet Mogai, my main Sci for the Fleet D'deridex and my Eng for the Haakona.

Seems to be the way I always do it. I'm an altoholic. Don't judge me

1ST Romulan Science Officer aligned with the KDF.
2ND Romulan Tactical Officer aligned with the Federation.
3rd Romulan Engineering Officer aligned with the KDF.
4TH Reman Tactical Officer aligned with the KDF.
Thank you for the time...
Cryptic, would you actulaly like me to spend actual Money? It's Simple:

My KDF's a Tac. (Easy but Boring)
I'm rolling Sci for my Rommie. (Hoping for interesting setups and options).
