Dan has already stated that the Scimitar will not be the Romulan flagship. I would guess it will be a carrier. That pretty much leaves new design.
If the Romulan flagship is a carrier, I'll be the first one to line up to throw money at it. A flagship-heavy carrier with battle cloak and a tactical-heavy console and boff layout...now there's a holy terror unlike anything that's yet been seen in STO.
Somebody getting uppity about canon? No problem! Just take a deep breath, and repeat after me:

The moment they announce a flagship carrier for the Romulans, is the moment I will need a change of shorts.
Anyone who thinks that looks like an X-Wing needs to lower the dosage by at least 2 pills a day. They have literally no design elements in common whatsoever beyond both having 4 wings.

To be honest, my feelings on the new Haakona model is that it draws inspiration from an much older romulan ship design back when FASA was managing the Starfleet Battles license: the Winged Defender.
The resemblance is remarquable, is it not? It was likely one of the coolest FASA romulan designs back in the day.
What I think of this? If the Haakona used it as inspiration, it's flattering and shows our ship devs care. If not, it shows a promising design direction for future Cryptic designs (I had a mixed opinion of the Ha'apax, didn't care much for the Ha'feh bullet body - but the refit designs are much better). Also, I happen to think the Haakona is better looking than the Winged Defender... so win on all counts.

My issue with the trio is that they are sooooo big. I mean huge.
People always say the D'D is big. But it really isnt. The actual "ship" part isnt that big. Most of it is just wing. These are just deck after deck after deck.
The Ha'feh is supposed to be an attack ship but its built like a skyscraper. Its nearly a station. The only use for a ship that big would be a troop transport for planet scale invasions. The ship simply doesnt look designed for its function regardless of what you think about the actual aesthetic
Cruisers are turn rate 6 or 7
This is 5
Carriers have a turn rate of 5...
The Galaxy is a 6.
The Dreadnought Galaxy is a 6.
This is a 5.....
It splits into ships that have a 10 and a 13 turn rate...
Should a ship that is 1/3 smaller have a 10 turn rate if its a 5?

In space, shape has little affect on design performance. Take a look at the Borg. they fly city block sized Cubes, and at much better performance then even the Galaxy. I do agree that these ships are very big and beefy, but it adds to a bit of the intimation. You see that coming at you, you know it won't go down in a few shots. Which makes it more of a battle ship or dreadnaught, if anything. (which doesn't rule out troops and planetary invasions.)

don't bother me at all one blue mkxi RCS and maxed out thrusters skill like i have on my gal-x it will be around 12-13
also with the updated separation when i go boom i will not remerge instantly only when i tell it to
I just don't know what to think of the Haakona model, in some ways it does look kind of neat with the whole "owl swooping down" business. However, Most Romulan ships have their wings swooping down at the ends to the nacelles like the D'Deredix and Ha'pax. Don't know, it's different to be sure... maybe it'll grow on me.

Big D has nacelles pretty much in the middle.
If we talk canon, there's the Mogai with wings pointed downwards and T'Liss with wings upwards. So both are possible.
And the Haakona does look better than the Ha'Apax. But its collision box will be the biggest in game, I guess (probably except Cubes), because of the wings going in all directions.

You are correct good sir
Not sure why anyone would spend money on a 5 turn rate ship....

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
