No Romulan Carrier for Scorpions?

I'll put this here as it may not exactly fit Tribble.

At this time, do Romulans at T5+ have any ship that can use their Elite Scorpion fighters? Does it seem a bit odd that both the KDF and Federation can make such heavy use of them via device or hanger item?

Since the recent decision to bar allied vessels at T5, this has suddenly become a significant gap.

Hopefully the Romulans get some more ship options.

As far as we know on Tribble, there's no T5+ carrier for the RSE (or below it, for that matter).

Of course, that doesn't make the Romulans totally bereft of carriers: they still have the Recluse, the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier, and the Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier.

Obviously not the same, but it's one thing.

The second thing is- and I have no knowledge of this- but one of the things about the Scimitar (other than the Thaleron device and the perfect cloak) was its hangers of Scorpions. If I had to gamble, I would suggest that the Scimitar might end up being a three-ship pack, with at least one of them being a flight-deck carrier with a hangar bay coming with basic Scorpions.

Otherwise, the Romulans have historically had carriers, and I would not at all be surprised if we did end up seeing a Romulan carrier reasonably soon as a C-store thing.

It does not surprise me, actually, that Cryptic is relatively limiting ships released at launch. You don't want to 'burn out' your buying public. I would be somewhat surprised if, in fact, Cryptic does not have a half-dozen other Romulan C-store ships in the pipeline with plans to dribble them out over six months or so.

Release six ships at once, people may buy one or two. Release six ships over six months, and people might buy four or five.

I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you want a Romulan carrier, I can't see it as being a void unfilled for long.

Just keep checking the C-store. I'm sure something will pop up there eventually.

I guarantee you when the Scimitar pops up, it'll have at least one hangar slot.

i suspect when the scimmy comes you wont get a hangar with it, in the words of picard, "she's a predator", so built for combat specifically and the whole thing is a giant thalaron weapon in a 2 way role. it is already deadly enough without adding extra fighters to the mix. i think it would completely disrupt the balance of the game as it is, especially with extra firepower from the fighters.

i already popped in a question the other day on 'ask cryptic' about a possible rommie carrier since i never seen one on trek before, i also knew this question would come up as well. hopefully Dan can answer that question.

i hope the carrier is just that, a science cruiser with 2 slots with a combined launch value of a dozen fighters or 4 impulse bop's.

Yeah, I was quite sure we would see something in the C-Store at some point. It looks like all "fun" T5 ships will be C-Store anyways. The free ships will be lumbering cruiser variants. Playing a Romulan is starting to look expensive.

I could imagine a three-pack Scimitar that is something like a Jem'Hadar dreadnought but with one hangar, a "Thaleron Weapon" console, and a "short term perfect cloak" console, sort of like the T5 Romulan Reputation power (say 4 minute recharge, 30 second cloak with the ability to fire all weapons, etc.)

It could be balanced so that it wasn't outrageously OP.

The scimitar is a carrier(canon, she has a wing of scorpions), and I'd bet my house that it'll have hangar bays. If they need to balance her, they'll do it via other means.

So rather then wanting the ship that's ACTUALLY a carrier in star trek cannon for Romulans, you want them to have a ship that HAS a Hangar Bay to not be a carrier, and for STO devs to make a new carrier just because you can quote an obscure reference from Star Trek: Nemesis..... :rolleyes:

They have access to the Recluse via Lobi Store....

other than that i think no (not all details about the launch Ships available yet)

but you know as well as i that there WILL be a Scimitar very very soon... for $$$
and that will come with a Hangar bay (even if it wasn't used in Nemesis, we've seen it)

the reason i am so hesitant on giving the scimmy that carrier role is because it already has enough damage potential as it is. the quote is perfect to sum it up from picard, if you agree or not is besides the point. i wouldnt be surprised if the scimmy comes as a bundle, and your precious carrier scimmy configuration comes with less weapons and no thalaron ability so the attack pets do the damage. that would satisfy both of us.

I guess you don't play Klingons or you should try out a Kar'fi. It's very simple to outdmg all the other ships with it.

From my pov the Scimitar should be in the next tier of ships when the increase the lvl range.....

i see, and only a few people can max out the kha'fi to the full, everyone else who flies that thing may not be as good as you.

i will agree to disagree. i just hope that carrier question is answered by dan because some people dont know how to deal out a fair answer of their own to an idea like the scimmy. to me its overpowered for a ship like that, and i would like to see something in between.

can imagine it now, 3 scimmy players in a triangle with APA 3, TT 3, APB 3, photonic fleet, engineering abilities, thalaron weapon ready to fire, CRF 2 and HY 3, 2 bops 6 scorpion fighters, 6 banks of disruptors ready to fire with an enhanced battlecloak. 2 other rommie players distracting 5 fed players. blam! out of cloak all 5 dead in moments due to the overwhelming scimmy response... no thanks. you may like your fights to be one sided, i dont.

Quite possibly, but just because the preorder pack is 125 bucks doesn't mean you have to get it either. After doing some math I pretty much decided that I was going to just get separate peices as I needed them. Don't get me wrong, the pack is indeed a deal, but I don't see myself flying some of those, not to mention I have no desire for some of the other things included.

Personally I don't know if a player Romulan Scimitar would even have a thalaron weaponry, I mean thalaron weaponry was a generally illegal and frowned apon.

I can't imagine D'Tan would support using such weaponry, Obisek tried to use thalaron weapons to be free, well him and his people are now free on New Romulus.

I would rather see the Scimitar as a carrier and give up the thalaron weapons than visa versa.

It's not the pre-order pack that's the problem. It's the ZERO T5 ships for Dilithium. The free ship is the Ha'apax which is apparently also slow and lumbering. If a Romulan player wants anything but a bulky cruiser variant, they need to shell out Zen. The players in their parent factions at least have 3 options that do not cost Zen or Dilithium and several more that just cost Dilithium.

It's not so bad...

I grinded a 2500 zen ship f2p style in a star cruiser hating every second of it.

At least there are ships to get it's only fair they try to make a profit.

Dev commentary suggests that even with a level cap increase, there will not be a sixth tier of ships. The zen-store and lockbox lotto most likely have something to do with that.

The Scimitar is not a dedicated carrier, the Thelaron device is build-in to the ship design as part of it and you cannot remove it, you can not use it but makes no difference to the ship the design, the Vesta was designed to use a Phaser cannons and you can remove the DHCs but it but at no point the ship loses its ability to fire then.

Well umm the special weapon of the Scimitar is described as doing thalaron radiation damage, and where I say tried is because one of the missions I don't remember which. Obisek's shipment of weapons was stolen.

Good thing you bring up the Vesta, she also has a hanger and the Scimitar is a much bigger ship. So I see no reason why she couldn't be a carrier.

Amen to that. Though if they don't get one, I have a Jem'Hadar HEC my Romulan can use. Not sure what my KDF will get, but let's be honest, fed is my first love anyway.

Pff... a Scimitar. If it gets out as player ship it will take the crown of the most false representation of ships in STO. I could imagine a copy/paste of the JemDread + cloak. But that will be probably still overpowered considering everything else in the game & still completly underpowered compared to the canon representation of that shipclass.

Maybe something new. The "light scimitar class" because the building plans of the original got lost or something.

I was thinking that the Romulans could possibly never get a carrier. The reason being that the Romulans like to put a battle cloak on all their ships, and that no full carrier has the capability to cloak for more than a few seconds (from abilities or consoles). I'm thinking the Devs don't care for the idea of a ship that summons it's fighters and then disappears until it needs to summon more.

I'd like to imagine something cool like a Romulan carrier that summons something like the scorpion fighters and whenever it cloaks all the fighters cloak in unison.

I'm still hoping sooner or later they will add a Carrier and a Sci ship, they do that and I might never leave the RR!

Plus I never said the Scimitar should be a *full* carrier that might or might not have frigates...I just said a carrier. The HEC's only have one hanger but are still called carriers!

The Valdore should have been that. The cowlings on the wings in the concept art easily could have been launch tubes for bays higher up in the central hull.

Yes, somehow I don't think it'll have over 100,000 hp and more damage than an escort. Which is what the NPCs get.
