melee vs borg

This just irks me...

Teammate A: *sigh*
Teammate A: sure, poke them to death

Me: hey it works lol

Teammate A: how about using a shotgun?
Teammate A: oh whatever, poke him to death
Teammate A: it's not like you're gonna listen

Me: what..it's been proven melee works

Teammate B: leave him, he knows better
Teammate B: ya know, melee only work against heavily shielded targets
Teammate B: like heavy tac and elite tac

Me: I've run enough KAGEs with ppl that use melee to know it works fine

Teammate A: thx to all who were using guns
Teammate A: gg
Teammate A: bye

For the record this was in a Khitomer ground STF that went smoothly, optional and all

I switched to using a close combat kit on a tac captain with a bat'leth when I saw how effective it was running another KAGE months ago with a pro team
I also carry my fire team kit and adapted pulsewave for a gear change when needed

Apparently in Teammate A's opinion, melee is bad against borg

I've run thousands of STFs, including Cure Ground Elite and Khitomer Ground Elite to know that in my opinion melee works perfectly fine against borg...whether your using it in CGE or KAGE or even the Defera Invasion Zone

Sorry, that's my rant.
Thanks for reading and have a good day. :)

That ferengi energy whip also works very well.
...but someone lost their mind if they're going up against an elite tactical drone with a bat'leth.

i went up against 3 elite tactical drones with a falchion, and i ripped it to shreds

granted, i had help each time, but most of the damage dealt to each drone came from me; melee is very powerful if properly supported

Hmmm, maybe the defera elite drones are tougher. I solo all drones with the shard sword to LOLville, but those elite tacs don't seem notice when I hit them, so I fall back and snipe them with a sniper rifle.

With a Pulsewave and the Fire Team Kit you can do around 2000 or 3000 of damage per hit to an entire group. You can do that with a melee weapon? I don't think so.

This is how a true Tactical Officer rolls

Check the video, it's going to be really useful to you.

Anyways, the PvE content in this game is mostly easy, so you can use anything to beat it, anything. Just keep in mind that are faster and better ways to do it

    Melee vs Borg...

Why is this even here? It's a no brainer that Melee works on Borg. Period. First off, on elite, they have hardened shields. That means you're doing at most 30% energy damage to their shields. At most. Secondly, you can't adapt to melee. Lastly, at melee range the Borg hardly ever use their plasma cannons, which means no one shot crits, no insta kills, faaar less pain in general, therefore you last longer and can deal more damage.

I have a friend who runs a close combat kit with his tac, has ALL of his skills and passives and even his captain traits all set to melee, and he solos elite tacs with his fists. And gives no craps. Add in a few support captains, and you're gold. I also use melee on a regular basis. I run up to tacs, heavy tacs, and elite tacs and slap them to death with batt'leths, tegolars, falchions, lirpas, fists and rifle butts. It's fun, effective, and when timed properly is just amazing.

    Herp. A. Derp.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

1 purple and 2 blue security officers with +crit and severity while using melee attacks, plus a purple mk xi [CrtD]x3 tsunkatse falchion

with all that, i get 20% crit chance and 125% crit severity, before any kit, captain or team buffs, and no gambling device (which i really need to get at some point)

so yeah, properly supported, melee is deadly

lol. 3x purple melee security officers, 2x purple knockback assault officers + squad leader or close combat. combine that with the omega set and a gambling device and you're golden.

those in the know, melee. i can guarantee a good melee team will complete a kage with 8+ minutes left on the optional timer.

get yourself a sword or falchion. the "lunge" ability that it has is great especially if you get rooted. lirpas and bat'leths don't have that function unfortunately.

what do those do? if they knock your opponent back while using melee, that's kind of counterproductive, don't you think? being that you have to keep an opponent in melee range long enough to trigger the high damage combos and those would keep knocking them away from melee range

I used to LOVE using nanos to dismember Borg. Then they patched it so that Borg actually adapt to them now. :(

that's what i originally thought too, but it allows for non-elite drones to be knocked down very easily and thus, renders them unable to damage you or any other attacker. it's just another way to manhandle the borg without much delay. it's a 1m knockback, not the kinda knockback you see with pulsewave shotties.

combine that with a couple well placed smoke grenades and 2 people can literally take out the borg swarm at the generators before the armek fight on cge.

Ive melee'd Armek with a nanopulse batleth, as an engineer a few times. NOw I wouldnt melee all borg, but there is a time and place for it. Cure ground is one for me.

I really think it's inefficient to melee everything in sight when there are more powerful AoE attacks available to you that can one shot a whole borg group. Melee is really for boss fights or when you have no other options. That's just my opinion though.

Just because melee is cool when you know the combos, that doesn't mean you're teamworking :).

I had to stop and quote this one before i even worked my way through the second page.

I've seen both sides of the melee spectrum against the borg, and i'm still one of those running melee. I in fact do it so that i'm grabbing the aggro of entire groups and able to turn them around so the rest of the team is doing all flank damage. With a good healer in the group i can kill anything before the rest of the team can even drop shields, and that includes the final bosses, Although i have yet to do so with the queen on Elite. Normal though she drops pretty hard.

With Close combat kit my kicks are dealing as much as my MK XII elite fleet pulsewave and my drop kicks can crit for over 1k. I'll usually keep my pulwave though instead of going with a melee weapon though since it's secondary is like a second drop kick.

If Cryptic had left melee at 100% shield penetration i would be a beast against the borg with just my melee.

It's entirely viable, BUT like every thing else in the game you need to learn to do it right.

In the room before Manus, with the elite and the four groups, as long as i have a healer on me, i can keep all of them in the door way facing away from the group so they can flank. It's a great spot to look BA as well as a great team player.

A team of 2 Science officers with Analyst, 2 Tactical Officers with Fire Team, and 1 Engineer with Equipment Technician all using Fleet Advanced Pulsewave Assault Weapons will finish any STF faster than a team of 2 Science officers with medic, 2 tactical officers with close combat specialist, and 1 engineer with Equipment Technician all using sword.

Why is this you may ask? It's quite simple, the two science officers will strip all shields off of the borg, making the use of swords POINTLESS. The two tactical officers will chain tactical initiative and their super buffs, allowing them to alternate oneshotting borg mobs. When going up against the elite tactical drone, the science officers will toss tricorder scan + tachyon harmonics and the tactical officers will toss fire on my mark. One of them will super buff and oneshot the elite tactical drone. The engineer will follow along weapon malfunctioning the heavy and elite tactical drones so that the science and tactical officers can set up these repeated quick strikes. Killing Armek is a breeze under this method. Everyone surrounds armek with pulsewaves. The engineer weapon malfunctions, the science officers use damper field, gas grenade, tricorder scan, and tachyon harmonics, the tactical officers throw their fire on my mark debuffs and they both use the super buff. Armek is now dead before he could give his first dialogue.

Now, the sword method of play, everyone rushes at the borg mobs with sword while the medics cross heal. Because the team is so close, the borg use their assimilate player ability liberally. Usually the medic is able to cure them in time, but sometimes they get assimilated (burning time). Taking down an elite tactical drone is 15 seconds of work as everyone chips away at it's health, whereas the pulsewave method takes about 5 seconds to debuff and then oneshot. There is a high chance of assimilation here. During the armek fight, you are looking at 4-5 minutes of fighting as 4 players snipe while one person tanks armek and pulls the aggro.

Is the sword method fun? Yes, it is quite enjoyable. Is it the most efficient way to play? No, as I clearly outline above.

lol. as long as youre having fun, so be it. however, i'd wager that a full properly geared melee team would be able to finish a kage and cge instance faster than your non melee, highly specific team. i know for a fact that a halfway decent melee team can finish kage with just under 8 minutes left on the optional timer. finish cge with about 5 mins left on the op timer.

mind you, these are old screenshots. my friend and i routinely pug ground stfs just because between the two of us, we can manhandle everything. i'm not saying that your premade wouldnt nuke things, but my premade would be better =)

Melee is what made me love ground. We do melee in KA elite, Cure elite and mixed rifle and melee in Infected elite. We may not always get the optional in Infected, but we get it the majority of the time. The only time we use rifles in there is to pull borg from the rooms before rescuing the crew members with swords and then the last room is rifles only. Ground wasn't fun for me until I tried it with a sword and now I would rather do ground than space.
