I have played this game since launch. I quit Wow for this game. I love Star Trek, but I find my self with one foot out the door and looking towards new mmo games.
This game puts 0 emphasis on team play. Tacs can tank and heal themselves very well. Why would anyone play anything besides a tac and use an escort anymore? This has allowed for a single class to be universal in capibility and the other classes have become laughable.
Why don't we have a form of team balance? Has this community, many player fresh to gaming I might add, complain on the forums until the difficulty of the game has been eradicated? I have never met a community with such an aversion to being challenged. They exploit foundry problems more than play the game. They seek the high score but do not seem to enjoy the journey.
Most of the players I meet on this game are not remotley team player minded. I play sports in real life so I know a thing or two about being a team player. But, the community of this game has likely never even touched a basket ball or paintball gun and only want the ego boost having the rewards bring them at minimal cost and skill.
I'm tired of playing alone dispite I am in a full group. I'm tired of people laughing at the tanking role because their escort can tank and dps and heal themself at the same time. I do not understand the mentality of these players who think that this is an okay recipie for a team based game.
I am looking forward to Neverwinter but fear if it is more of the same I will just find something else to do with my time at home.
Let me elaborate...
The only thing left for me to do is PVP and due to the limited and uninspired kinds of pvp games we have I have become bored. I can zerg STF missions or earn fleet marks but I have no real challenges left. Crafting is broken so people just sell keys to make money(which is lazy and hurts the spirit of the mmo).
We need new PVE challenges and PVP games to stimulate the top players, but I know that if we did get them the community that destyroyed this game in the first place would sink their teeth into them as well and have the difficulty removed.
I have also learned how to use the foundry but it dose not give me a feeling of accomplishment.
I have spent a lot of money on this game and am left in conflict. I remember when STF missions where extreemly hard and only top notch teams could complete them and earn the borg ship set. I miss those days.
New content will not fix this if it is just more of the same no skill required kids games.
This game puts 0 emphasis on team play. Tacs can tank and heal themselves very well. Why would anyone play anything besides a tac and use an escort anymore? This has allowed for a single class to be universal in capibility and the other classes have become laughable.
"Team play" and different classes have different meanings. STFs do require some cooperation to complete, but the fact remains that they require DPS above all that. That is admittedly bad design on Cryptic's part, but it does not entirely preclude the existence of teamwork.
Has this community, many player fresh to gaming I might add, complain on the forums until the difficulty of the game has been eradicated? I have never met a community with such an aversion to being challenged. They exploit foundry problems more than play the game. They seek the high score but do not seem to enjoy the journey.
Hah, and what makes you think you know everyone in this game has an "aversion to being challenged"? There are some who complain about the difficulty of the game and get it nerfed. However, do not generalise and say that the entire community is this way.
Most of the players I meet on this game are not remotley team player minded. I play sports in real life so I know a thing or two about being a team player. But, the community of this game has likely never even touched a basket ball or paintball gun and only want the ego boost having the rewards bring them at minimal cost and skill.
Bah, ego boost? Do you really think that you are the only one who knows anything about being a team player? You insult nearly the entire community and you actually expect a positive response?
Again, your assumptions are incorrect. It is a mere small part of the community that has an attitude of wanting stuff to be given to them easily.
I'm tired of playing alone dispite I am in a full group. I'm tired of people laughing at the tanking role because their escort can tank and dps and heal themself at the same time. I do not understand the mentality of these players who think that this is an okay recipie for a team based game.
We do not think that escorts being tanky is a good recipe for the game. Have you even seen the endless threads debating the underpowered-ness of cruisers? Have you ever looked at the threads arguing over giving escorts a nerf? Before you blame the community for anything, learn to look at the evidence. We do not think this is OK. It is simply that a good number are apathetic after having to complain about this all the while.
- Writing an open letter you don't actually want a response to
- Threatening to quit a video game FOR REALZ
- Accusing people who own PC's in the 21st century of having never played, or understanding any concepts, about sports
- Complaining about virtually every system in the game while reminding us you pay money to keep playing as if this in any way makes that more valid
- And a crappy signature

For flavor purposes. Besides in May, people are going to switch to Warbirds.

You said you've played since launch. So you remember the difficulty slider being instituted and the changes they made to NPC difficulty. And you remember the changes they've made to the Borg, making them more difficult. The Borg changes in particular were player complaint drive. Modulation only exists because the players complained that the Borg were too easy.
tsurutafan01, Scurry... I don't like either of you. tsurutafan01, you are just jealous of my sig cuz I made physical contact with a female... something you will never do. You always respond to everything negativly. The two of you are jerks...
Tacs can tank and heal themselves very well. Why would anyone play anything besides a tac and use an escort anymore? This has allowed for a single class to be universal in capibility and the other classes have become laughable.
This is 90% of your problem right here. This is like a crack head complaining that way too many people are hooked on Crack. I play a science ship and do fine in teams, I play a cruiser captain and my ships do just fine in all aspects of the game.
The fact that you only play PVP says a lot about your builds and why you think Tac is king.
There are three groups of players.
1. Mature, played the original Pong on their TV the year it came out, gamers (im in the group)
We know what teams are, most of us play to the spirit of the game, we understand tactics, We don't fall for every gaming company gimmick that comes out. And we hate most of you who play this and every other game that you all ruin.
2. There are the casual gamers who don't care about anything and like flying their ships around in circles for an hour here or there.
3. the 9 -16 year olds (and sometimes up to 30 year old Ubber LEETS who aren't happy unless they Rage quit and glitch every game into useless TRIBBLE. The ones who read all about DPS and do nothing but boost their little tac ships to TRIBBLE levels of output.... sadly these are the same players who spend half of each mission dead because their builds are completely off.
If you balance your ships for their roles in the game, each ship still is useful and still does their jobs. So I find you whole post insulting and please take the picture of you and some random chick you met at a rave down.. none of us are impressed.

Aw, come on. It's not like I disagreed with you. I agree with your point....but you go about it in a terrible way. And, overgeneralising again. You're the one who stuck yourself upon a pedestal above everyone else. If you had made a good argument, I'd be the first to support you. You can argue without insulting an entire community, you know.
*Sighs* Not to mention tsuruta might even be married, for all you know. He shouldn't have insulted your sig, but......
Sure, you don't like me. People never like to be corrected or have something pointed out to them. I could have been a little more tactful, but - oh, well- the attitude you displayed in the initial post was nowhere near tactful. For what it's worth, anyways, I apologise.

You're right, Akurie666. While it may not be as general of a problem as you make it out to be, it is still a major one, one that needs to be addressed. While some people have a problem with how you address it, honestly, I don't care, as long as the issue is even brought up.
Eisaakaz, You sir, are a fail. Everything you said in that comment is wrong. The fact that you would even think of putting the players of STO, or any MMO into categories like that is insulting. I myself am 16, and while this may be my first real MMO, I am in fact a hard core gamer. I may not have played the "original snake game on my tv the year it first came out", or anything like that, but I'm not a stupid rage quitter, like you think most people my age are. The only category that is probably true that you presented would be the casual gamers, which usually do end up just flying around in circles...
Also, when you compare Akurie666 to a crack addict complaining about crack addiction, you are saying that he's a DPS maniac. I myself personally have known Akurie666 in this game for at least 1 year, and he is anything but a DPS maniac. I don't think I've ever seen him even run an escort, or even a tac on anything but ground PVP. I may also be a hardcore PvPer, but I also do STFs and Fleet Marks about half of my time, and if you had any observation skills at all, you would be able to realize that tacs are in fact kings. Yes, my tac, Sarge, does run an Andorian Escort, and I do infact do fricken amazing DPS, but I do run in a team, and if I didn't have a tank on my team that had threat, and heals, I wouldn't be able to stay alive.
Therefore, my dear watson(eisaakaz), your argument... sucks.

Good I am not trying to provoke you. I am trying to be funny because this whole post is ridiculous. Every gamer I know and hang out with be it this game or any of the others I am currently playing, everyone is married and has kids... some older than you.
It looks to me like the OP is drunk and is trolling. Even you Pet, by saying you tank in your cruiser with threat... you don't agree with his post either.
So anyway, not trying to argue with you. just messing around. Have a good night.

I honestly don't know if I should have a box of tissues or a bag of popcorn handy while reading this thread.
But I have decided one thing. If I ever decide to post some emo needy garbage on the forum, someone please, be a pal and shoot me.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

Well, Eisaak. It appears that you incorrectly read Akurie666's post. While he was pointing out that common sense would dictate that it would be the best option to run as a Tac with the current state the game is in, he never said he agreed with it, in fact, I do believe that he explicitly stated that he was against that, and that there should be a better balance between the careers.
1. Mature, played the original Pong on their TV the year it came out, gamers (im in the group)
We know what teams are, most of us play to the spirit of the game, we understand tactics, We don't fall for every gaming company gimmick that comes out. And we hate most of you who play this and every other game that you all ruin.
I don't believe die hard fan service and an adherence to knowledge on gameplay is exactly
being 'mature' in the definition of the word. Maybe old or addicted would be more apt.
I'd say actually casual players are those that are more 'mature' in the true sense of the word.
Because they can move into either spectrum of 'old' or 'new' categories once more as they
choose whether they truly like the game/continue with it/discontinue or return to it again etc.
The only thing left for me to do is PVP and due to the limited and uninspired kinds of pvp games we have I have become bored.
I quit PVP when the Bug ship came out , and despite the fact that I now own one , I did not return to it because there is no 'fun' for me in PAWN-ing inferior ships , and I'm not having fun in PVP in my Bug nor in any Cruiser (due to low DPS) .
(I had fun in Cruisers before S.6)
I can zerg STF missions or earn fleet marks but I have no real challenges left.
So you do what many of you have done before and turn on the community .
I'm sorry to tell you this but that's not the address you're looking for .
Last year in an interview to Proirity 1 podcast , Lead Designer Al "Gecko" stated that the reason they cut up the STF's was to make the accessible to more players .
That means accessible to the average player .
You can't turn around and 'accuse' ppl for being 'average' .
Instead you can ask Cryptic to reinstate the old STF's (along side the new ones) .
There have been a number of ppl requesting this and the more the better . It's not like Cryptic has to go out of their way to create brand new content . All they have to do is give them a once over to see that they are working and hook them up (if the master files still exist) .
Crafting is broken so people just sell keys to make money(which is lazy and hurts the spirit of the mmo).
I have not played other MMO's so to me the way things are now are ok (to a point) .
I do not blame the Keys for my crafting woes . Here's why :
Crafting in essence has not been updated since launch of the game .
Look at it ! Everything is Mk 11 . That is STO 2009 .
If you want crafting to become valid , start demanding a revamp with the ability to craft Mk12 gear .
Right now Mk12 gear is so rare and expansive because you can't craft it .
Cryptic has made it so . Not your Key sales .
Revamp crafting and you can craft & sell worth while stuff . Mk11 is not worth your time nor your Dill investment .
I remember when STF missions where extreemly hard and only top notch teams could complete them and earn the borg ship set. I miss those days.
New content will not fix this if it is just more of the same no skill required kids games.
I miss those days too , but a part of me has contemplated the fact that this may be all we're going to get .
I'd love it if there was a different skill tree for PVP so that PVP players would stop requesting changes to PVE .
I'd love it if we could have long and semi-difficult STF's that would give you a feeling that you went on a journey instead of the 10-15 minute 'coffee break' STF's we have now . And no , I'm not confusing Into The Hive (ground) with 'difficult' That is just a DPS fest , nothing more , and a rather poorly executed one at that .
My advice to you is this : many of us have come to the point of "this is not fun anymore" before . Many have left , some have taken a break . Some are still here .
Whatever you choose , don't take it out on the community , because they are the same community you've played with for a long while . They deserve better then to be generalized in such a negative way .
Perhaps find a fleet that you can embrace (and vice versa) .
\you are just jealous of my sig cuz I made physical contact with a female... something you will never do...
Seriously? You actually took a picture of yourself wearing those preposterous aviators and made it your forum sig? I always thought that was just you trying to make fun of some random douchebag. My bad.

Thanks for saying this, primarily because it's the truth. A casual reading of this forum would indicate that there are NO cruisers or sci ships in this game, only escorts.
The remedy for this mass hallucination is to nerf escorts, giving their DPS to cruisers, and remove all healing ability, thereby FORCING escorts to depend on other players for their survival. Utterly selfish AND self-absorbed? You betcha!

Everybody laugh!
Seriously? You actually took a picture of yourself wearing those preposterous aviators and made it your forum sig? I always thought that was just you trying to make fun of some random douchebag. My bad.
IBTL.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

You betcha!
hallucination ? you must be imagining things everything is in perfect order
