They are a little late.. they'd first have to buy Cryptic from the Ferengi.
Maybe the Ferengi meeting we see in DS9 "The Nagus" episode is just a Cryptic meeting. They're talking about new profits in the gamma quadrant, but it could just be new profits with a clean reputation in Neverwinter.
no PWE/I owned game has ever had a paid for expansion, so i highly doubt that is it.
If it's in the c-store you can still grind for it... not really a truly paid for expansion but you would have to earn enough dilithium to trade for zen... I thinks it's a viable possibility.
Dan Stahl said there would be more perks for lifers in the next release and maybe they get to play it for free while F2P must grind/buy zen for it.
They already charge you for some playable species so why wouldn't they charge for a playable faction via the c-store? Especially one that everyone wants to play unlike the Klingon faction which they can't give away. (No offense intended as I have a VA Klingon as well.)

I bet the countdown is gonna give a message at the end of it that sto is closing its doors and it will then begin another count down to the launch of neverwinter LOL.

Don't ever joke about the idea of STO shutting down in favor of another game!
Agreed. The forums should be interesting in coming weeks/months. I predict lots of complaining once the countdown timer hits zero, as noted earlier, I'm convinced that there will undoubtedly be players who won't like whatever it is.
And in a few months, when the new content has been released, there'll be mass crying about the server being unable to handle the demand, from the sort of people who think that they MUST be the only person trying to log in at that time to play the new content.
And not too long after that, the people who have steamrollered through the new content will be complaining about endgame content and demanding MORE new content.
Mark my words.......
I'm sure I'll be in that last group. I've given up repeating anything at this point, so I tend to stick with that which I have not yet experienced. As you can imagine that leads to a pretty dry experience between content releases in a static galaxy.
I'll sell you some weapons from New Romulus. Never fired, only dropped once.
Although, it *might* have something to do with the US Ladies Figure Skating championship won by Theresa Weld in 1914 :P NOT!
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

No you're not the only one. I've kind of enjoyed this. The speculation has ranged all over the universe and that is entertaining. In the earlier days the well-intentioned oversharing of information regarding development plans still open to change led to cries of broken promises etc. I don't miss that.
Yeah that last part is very annoying... But players do it anyways.
(Ok, I accept that will fly over the heads of anyone not from the UK...)
If that popped up in the last 60 seconds... :P
To be honest I'll set my expectations at about the size of New Romulus, if they do better then great something to look forward to anyways just over 17 hours to go...if it turns out to be a troll post... :P

I really hope that the announcement at the end of the countdown doesn't follow the pattern of many other Cryptic announcements.
"New ship!"
"Cool! What are the stats? How much will it be? When will it be released?"
"Sorry, we can't tell you any of that now. There will be several dev blogs about those subjects in the coming weeks. But look forward to tomorrow, when we will release a dev blog talking about how we came about the visual design for the ship! Exciting, right?"
"Soooo, you won't actually tell us anything about this ship that you just announced, then?"
"Sorry, no. We're saving that for a future announcement."

Unfortunately, it probably will follow the pattern - a little more tease of information about the plans for the May update, with more details to follow in the weeks until then.
They really should have timed the announcement, or whatever it actually is, for March 15... and then they could have used the whole "beware the ides of March" thing. And I would have been happy.... well, mildly amused, anyway.

I have a question: Do you ever get the feeling that you might be a bad person for enjoying this so much?

My character Tsin'xing
Will we finally know what's going on in May when that countdown ends? ... and if we don't ... I fear a revolt by others.

When the countdown ends, we will finally know what happens when the countdown ends. :P
Hard to fight against that logic.
But will it be the Final Countdown? <que OLD MTV video>

I did think of doing that, but I'll be asleep then...

Would the Devs be online in-game when the counter ticks over?
In the middle of the night, sure. No time for chat abuse by the players seems more fitting.
At 6am PST? Oh no, they'll still be sleeping in their bunks in the bunker they've been in while working on the May update.
We had that already...it was called the mystery box
A ship is a ship. but the mystery box could be anything, it could even be a ship.
