If season 8 is TO BIG....

If season 8 is to big to be called a season, and we need to call it something. Can we call it Series 2? I mean no Star trek ever went past season seven.

Then it should be episode 7, but they can rename it still season1 episode 1 true 7 And now they start with Season 2 Episode 1 for example.
But Expansion pack 2 is not what you like to call it I guess...

Names like this would set nice tone :

    1. STO New Worlds
    2. STO The End off Seasons
    3. STO A New Day will Rise
    4. STO Alliances
    5. STO The Rise off the Tholians

    Anyone has an Idea ?

The so called 7 year rule for Star Trek is really moreso about people behind the scenes wanting to move on before blank happens, or they have to do blank to keep it running, etc. Why would STO ever follow suit? It's a game, not a tv show.

I'm not sure why Cryptic even bothers labeling major patches as seasons. I suppose it's supposed to create buzz and hype since they can't be called expansions or even add ons. If you really fear this 7 season ST business then wait until the 7th year is here. Then you can start posting your STO IS ENDING BECAUSE NO ST EVER LASTED LONGER THAN 7 YEARS signs as year 7 comes to a close. Then when year 10 approaches you can look back and feel dorky. Unless the very thought of working on STO for ten years scares Dan and company dead.

And it might. Game devs aren't known for their longevity on a single game. Much like the tv show producers, exec's, so on, they like to work on multiple projects during their career, not just one project. That doesn't mean STO is doomed, it just means old people move on, newer people are hired to take over. Unless they get the bright idea that a new MMO could improve their overall player base. Then STO2 can be the next EQ2, taking the dishonor away from poor current title holder FFXIV that thought it could end FFXI on the spot. Sequels to popular MMOs almost never shine because devs try to reinvent their success wheel. Usually it ends badly.

Although being F2P might create different results.

Maybe we Can Call It: Stave Of The Raptor? (Stave=Chapter)

So when you're doing play-testing, do you tell everyone "I'm getting ready to ride the Cowboy!"

I don't care what it's called, as long as it's not called Shirley. (ObYoutubeLink for the young'ns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A5t5_O8hdA )

Dev responses always need to be disected... so Alan and Cowboy?

It could be a reference to Alan Ladd who was the lead in the 1953 western "Shane"

from IMDB: "Shane rides into a conflict between cattleman Ryker and a bunch of settlers, like the Starretts, whose land Ryker wants. "

So Ryker (awfully close to Riker, eh?), Settlers/Starrets (New Romulus/D'tan?), cattle (Epoh?).

Food for thought people...food for thought.

I've just been calling it The Patch Formerly Known As Season 8. "STO: Phase 2" is starting to sound tempting however.

I wonder how many extra season launch bugs come with this bigger season? I'm sure it's a heck of a lot more than the usual mess they unleash upon us.

I'd be in favor of 'Star Trek: The Empire Strikes Back'. We're homogenizing the two franchises anyways, right?

    The Saga of Crazy Raoul

Mad from the death of his woman (refer to update picture of Raoul carrying his woman out of plasma fire) he swears vengeance upon those that killed her, those that dissed his momma and those who scratched the paintwork on his pimped out sky-rider.

Prepare yourself. Crazy Raoul is coming!!

That was kind of the joke, admittedly. Its the only Star Trek direct sequel, after all.
