Why is "friendly" fire not more realistic. If a player is one my team and they run into a mine or a torpedo, why can't they take damage. Or on ground, a grenade affect them. Radiation too. Not just friends put friendly NPCs and BOFFs
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.
If you were here at launch, you would have seen so many trolls sitting in SOL using abandon ship. Back then you could use it at 100% hp and out of combat, and the warp core breach damaged all friendly neighbours.
It took cryptic months to fix that and stop the trolls, and when they did, they all spammed forums complaining how they couldn't troll anymore.
With the BOFF IA we have know ? No thanks ! They would run in the middle of an orbital strike or minefield and die. All the time. I don't want to play my mission alone without my away team.
Also, as mentioned, people would use that for trolling. And it would make several power/weapon useless, like the (soon (tm)) flamethrower, the pulsewave, mines, bombs,...

I did that during the last day of beta to have fun with some miranda. Still have some funny videos

Ugh...I remember that. Its one of the reasons I left my original sub and started playing other games back then.

Oh man I remember that.
I once saw a guy hit abandon ship so I hit EPtS and brace for impact and lived through his explosion. He then sent me a tell raging at me because I didn't die. I think I laughed for a good 5 minutes haha.

Because every time something like that is tried, it winds up being less fun for most people. Even many of those who go into it claiming they'd find it more fun.

****. it's already bad in hive onslaught when the queen screws over everyones targetting and you can shoot your allies. if its an alphaing escort you REALLY dont want to be on the receiving end of one of those if something else has already weakened your shields or something.
If you want friendly fire, queue up for Mine Trap. Those salt vampires have a bad habit of confusing you and you end up shooting players and civilians.
I have to admit though, it was embarrassing the other day when I dropped an Orbital Strike right on top of another player and knocked him on his butt. I said I was sorry and confused and he was all like "That's OK" lol
Friendly fire of any sort in MMOs never ends well. As has been pointed out, people will invariably use it to troll other players, deprive them of credit for objectives, and generally annoy or harm them in any way possible. And that's excluding the really heinous griefing that could come from an organized group of players spawn camping an ESD map or something like that.

Heheh yeah Mine Trap leads to some interesting FF incidents! good fun tho, that's about all the FF sto needs.
Because with everything exploding everywhere, as ground matches are prone to do, everyone would be dieing everywhere.
I think that would be the best nerf to pulsewaves ever.
Tac buff --> boom --> 11 kills (7 on your team)
This would result in AOE powers being spammed less often, and takes the silly pulsewave out of relentless pvp circulation because teams won't be spamming it.
"Last Engage! Magical Girl Origami-san" is in print! Now with three times more rainbows.

I can see allowing you to damage yourself, the way many FPSes do with high intensity weapons if you use them at point blank.
Personally, I'd like it if players had multiple weapon slots (instead of 2) and could stock one weapon for each range... and maybe had a checkbox option to autoswap based on range to target. I think it'd be pretty cool looking to see people go through five weapons as they approach a target.
I was thinking 2 omni weapon slots, a pistol slot and bare hand-to-hand. It would be great for gamepad play as you can 1-buttons switch between all of them.

I doubt we'd see broad agreement on that though.
You mean like how every FPS was made until 2006? Yes please!
I don't like the autoswap idea (I don't want my grenade launcher turning into a pistol simply because I pointed it at the wrong dude) but I would like to see more oddball weapons, and to do that would require more slots.
I'd like to see some skills boosted and have them effect everyone, not just the enemy.
Gravity Well would be a good example is it less a weapon and more a force of physics.
Boost the Gravity Aspect of the skill and make it only able to fire at a target that is 6 to 12km away from the caster, but in a 360 degree similar to Sensor Scan.
Get too close and you risk getting sucked in yourself.
Things like mines would have a friend or foe setting on them, which is why they wouldn't react to your teammates. However, the actual explosion is another story.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online!

Mine Trap Supporter
This is the perfect explaination.
Remember the d*uches who mined the warpin/spawn point at ESD? Or the Plasma grenades in Infected (the original)?
