There are ways to prevent these problems to a degree a mandatory gear check at the door. All Energy Weapons same type, are you using at least MK XI blue's in every slot. See that was easy and it can weed out the people that don't know what they are doing.

I'd also like to add Eliteism doesn't factor in

If you're going to lie, at least don't do it in two consecutive posts.

I am sorry OP but that attitude is exactly why stf's are so daunting for newer players (or at least new to stf-ing). Quite apart from the fact that your justifications for why you should be penalty exempt smack of self entitlement you come across as unreliable and totally dismissive of anyone who does not meet your exacting standards. At the same time you presume the right to dictate how other paying customers should play the game your way and only your way. You must be soooo l33t.

For everyone else, I have only recently started to dip my toe in the stf water. It is not what I prefer to do in STO (or at least it never was) but frankly, if I want to rep up or hope to level my teeny fleet I have no choice but to do it.

For the most part I have had such fun. Who would have thought? Not me! .... I started off dreading having to do it. Mostly everyone I have been teamed with has been helpful and friendly and made the experience far less of an ordeal than I expected. I have learned a massive amount in just a few days by watching others and following their lead. On one or two occasions I actually felt like I made a positive contribution and at least held my own.

I recently put my oddy into dry dock and got the heavy escort and that combined with the real sense of achievement actually daring to try (and finding I was enjoying) stf's has given me an entirely new dimension to the game.

I really do hope that Cryptic think twice before adding a kick function. Had someone like the OP decided I was not worth the hassle before I even got in the door I would never have dared to try again. It really is not what this game needs imho.

For everyone making up excuses for not teaching people who are doing poorly:

The original person who asked the question said did you TRY not if it was successful. It is always a good thing to at least TRY and bridge the gap. If they can't understand or refuse to understand is their choice but as a community you should at least TRY to teach your team.

I find the leaving penalty to be fair. If I get stuck with a bad team I'm stuck with a bad team. If I feel I cannot stick it out for the time needed then I accept that I left. There are other things to do in the game for an hour so it's not a huge setback.

I'm here for myself, to get stuff not for the betterment of everyone else.

And the way you've chosen to do that is by joining a team.

So you work as a team or you get the penalty. Pretty simple.

The whole team would in theory have to agree, and in my experience with multiplayer games that's not likely, especially if the 'problem' is that you're playing less than perfect. Barring a guild whose members know each other and are used to intercommunicating I doubt any four people would band together to kick you if you weren't constantly kiting crowds of bad guys or something.

More likely is even when a team NEEDS to kick a person for actual griefing or afk they won't do it.

I kick not because your underpreforming, I will kick if its quite appearant you havn't even tried to learn on your own or if your running a failbow boat.

As far as daunting, you can always do normal STF's they are stupid easy and impossible to actully TRIBBLE up at all. They will let you see the encounter and learn it, allow you to build skill, and to grow. I do run normal STF's from time to time and in those I will help out new players, because I don't expect them to know. It's not elietism to expect someone queing for the hardest PVE content in game has a basic understanding of the game they are playing.

You win as a team, and you loose as a team.
    Deserters deserve a penalty.

If there was a time delay before the STF starts (like the fleet events), it would give a minute to make sure eveyone knows what they're doing.

And players new to STF shouldn't be able to join elite STF, unless grouped with a full team. Or maybe have a cryptic mission that acts as a tutorial for the STF.

Then we are at cross purposes. I did not pick up on the fact that you were talking about elites. Poor reading comprehension on my part and for that I apologise.

I would expect there to be a higher level of entry for the elites and I certainly would not attempt them but I still think it a tad off that you would dump the rest of a team who were relying on you (especially if you are as good as you say) just because they were under-performing by your standards.

I understand that it is no fun for some people unless they win .....uber competitive you may be but the downside of a win at all costs mentality is that you get a penalty if you can't bear to stick around for the 'you failed this time' message.

it wasn't just the failed optional its that they thought they could down the transformer while the nanite spheres healed it, and this isn't the first time I've seen just plain bad. I know ask 2+2= and if they dont anwser it correctly they can't get into the PVE que
