Great interview, but what's with the 2min+ of (well-animated) dead air at the start?
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

I like that he intends to keep T5 ships as the last tier of ships in the game, but also allowing ships to become more powerful through enhancements. Ship enhancement has been something a lot of people have requested in the past.
not much here. lots of talking not much being said.
Beers,

He answered my biggest question:
STOked: "When will we see new KDF-specific missions?"
Stahl: "May."

That was a good interview, thank you. I find the idea of enhancing our T-5 ships after the introduction of the Fleet Admiral rank. To me, that seems like the perfect opportunity to open up Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Once you achieve the rank of FA, you are given authorization to go to UP and using a crafting type system, you can add enhancements to your ship.
RE: walking on your own ship's hull being too much work (having to recreate each ships hull @ a larger scale) :
There is no need for that .
Creating a one shot large scale hull for a mission would do the same trick , and have players experience walking outside ONE ship -- instead of their own ship .
The idea being that the player experiences walking on a ship's hull (and thus has fun) , instead of the entire space walking tech getting shoved aside because it's too much work to tailor individual space walks .
RE : Space Red Alerts are buggy so we won't make new ones / extend existing ones w/variation on the enemy .
Errr ... ???
This does not make sense on a couple of levels , both because we have Red Alerts that do work and because we have Red Alerts that are bugged and because only in Cryptic's latest large content Patch (Season 7) -- they did indeed work with/created more Red Alerts .

Unless these enhancements are per-character and bought with anything other than expertise or energy credits.
Whoever watched yesterday or seen the ep afterwards no what I talk about.
I learned a lot off things behind the desk off D.Stahl and see his wishes for STO.
Also learned a bit off what Jam Jam does when they are not looking, Remodeling our ships and Jam Jam does that best.
First my congrats to D.Stahl to do this fun EP. And nice to know you care about the players as well as the game.
Seccond my Congrats goes to Matt, from Stoked Radio of Jupiterforce, Congrats on the live stream well done sir loved your show the whole 60 mins.
And it was a lot off fun and very good questions to very nice BIG Thumb UP.
Also big thumb to Irish loved your questions !!!
O is there someone on the forum to teach Borticus how to make Cofee, maybe then Cryptic works even faster
ok I will instate a link for those who missed it ....

Considering that many in-game ships have radically different geometry and designs, the concept of a "one size fits all" map somehow dumping them all into one appearance is pretty silly.
Spacewalking on a Defiant is going to be very different experience from spacewalking on an Akira, or a Sovereign, let alone an Atrox, a Chell Gret or some other non-standard ship.
I think he's suggesting having it be a specific ships like the DS9 spacewalk episode.
For example: We join Shon on the surface of the Enterprise-F.
Exactly , that's what I meant .
And while I imagined the excitement & creepiness of exploring a "ghost ship" that you can't beam onto for some reason , thus you had to access it from the outside via rocketboots , errr ... I mean that jet pack that Spock used in TMP , followed by a hull walk , followed by a creepy dark hallway encounter inside the ship -- we'll I have to admit that I'm positive may ppl would love to see / walk upon the hull of the Ent. F .

Well, see, I think this belongs in a fleet action, really (how fun would that be?) but would require the ability to rapidly put on EV suits like we autoswap to shuttles now.
Personally, I think we need a separate EV suit slot that the game auto-switches to in hazard zones.
Wonder about the lockboxes and the duty officers they are going to undertake.
Well hope Matt get Al on the horn wonder what he would inplement in all off this.

"Coffee: the finest organic suspension ever devised. It's got me through the worst of the last three years. I beat the Borg with it."
Great interview, but I think Dan got a little pestered by trivia. I've seen every episode of Trek and I could answer the exact questions that he answered. Asking about "starship class" seemed a little unforgiving, kind of like asking for the name of a planet.
Some of us are just bad with those types of questions, in spite of watching every episode of Star Trek.

You could start out in an airlock during the 30 second "read the briefing" phase at the start. Place a interactive item to serve as a "EVA suit locker" in the airlock that allows the players to get a common (white) un-statted EVA suit if for some reason they forgot to keep theirs in their inventory, so they can at least participate. After the timer ends, have the doors open and either flip the switch to make the environment require suits, or if possible (tech issues notwithstanding), keep the airlock as a "safe zone" with the standard forcefield barrier preventing the air from blowing out and the EVA-suited players can just walk out.

Application of "spacewalk" zone:
There are people in this game that keep wanting to see the Enterprise-J* in this game. Now obviously, this ship is far too large to be a player ship. So instead, how about making it the set piece for a PvP battleground? It could be the setting of 2 separate battles: A space battle where players from the UFP and KDF are fighting over and/or around the bloated whale corpse of a disabled ENT-J, and a "ground battle" where players are fighting on the surface of the ship, possibly trying to restore power/systems to it or stealing/"salvaging" data from nodes scattered across the surface. At the end of the match Q pops in, chastises both the winning side for messing with things they know they're not supposed to, and the losing side for not being good enough at stopping the other side. Then Q snaps his fingers to make all ENT-J and all the misappropriated data go away... until the ENT-J mysteriously reappears again (when enough people cue up for the PvP map)**.
* Admittedly, the ENT-J is probably my least favorite Enterprise (even worse than the JJPrise) and as far as I'm concerned, only existed in a "possible" future that "Crewman Daniels" showed to Archer... a future that Archer may or may not have prevented from happening when he "fixed" the timeline (I'd also like to think that "fixing the timeline" also wiped the Temporal Cold War from existence and Crewman Daniels from ever being born). Aside from being associated with a horrible, horrible storyline, it also looks like the most ridiculously "phoned in" piece of work from the otherwise outstanding repertoire of Doug Drexler. It literally looks like they took a Galaxy saucer skin from Bridge Commander and stretched it over a pizza cutter.
** Also, please, please, please never let the ENT-J exist in this game, not even in this form.

Good job.
