The Star Trek Online team is pleased to present this spotlight video that features the incredible new player ships that have been recently introduced to the game.
...The Wing Cannons recoil when firing? That's pretty cool! (No, I don't have the Kumari series yet. It's on my to-do list, along with a dozen other purchases)
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I've seen increased advertising for C-Store and Lockbox items in the past month or so. Guess business is not going as well as Cryptic wants us to believe.
The video team and I made this video. We don't develop the game.

i dont get why people think the vesta even needs a special bridge. its a standard fed ship, it would have one of the many bridges available. its not even canon, theres nothing to visually reference to make anything special.
People on this forum seem to have a great deal of trouble with the idea that different people in a company might have different jobs.
Or how much education training goes into those specialties, a very common suggestion is to reassign community, web, or PR team members to fix bugs, as if it's as easy as pulling a guy off grill and teaching him to run the register or the drive through speaker.

It's always encouraging to have it re-affirmed that a vast number of people on the internet aren't smart enough to be allowed to use the internet without supervision, I find.

That was totally epic ... the ending gave me goosebumps.
STO has the best Ship combat in .. well... what other MMO does ship combat LOL!
Thanks for a great Video
EvE Online actually. STO is better than Eve in that you can hide behind things and not get shot. INHO, EvE is better in everything else.
But I agree, its not a bad video. I rather miss the ones they made for all of the begining ships, some epic music, shots of the ships flying through space, and then shots of the ships blowing stuff up. I really wish they did that for more new ships, I would have loved to see them.

You should totally make a bridge, stick it in game, and when people complain, be all like, "you get mad when I don't make stuff, you get mad when I do make stuff. I just can't win!"

The Felczer Class bridge, with a replicator in the ready room that only dispenses Bran Flakes... Britney is always on the comm... There of course should also be a dance floor and a tailor...

Jeez, I thought This was supposed to be a game about Starfleet and the Klingons. Pretty soon, all the "specialty" ships will outnumber Starfleet vessels...if they don't already.
If Cryptic dedicated this much time to things like say...PvP Terrirtory Control or Raids or Featured Episodes, they probably could have stayed a subscription game.

Short Term Profit Exploitation is most efficient when you spam relatively simple "wowfactor" content like ships and vanity items for highest financial return and minimal investment.
Smart business move, but not if you have customers who are wise to it.

don't tell the others, but Cryptic burned through all Fed Ships that will possibly sell for good money already and they are now talking about making MORE "2409" versions (does anybody really want more Cryptic made up ships like the Regent or Armitage? not me, i play this for the Star Trek Ships, i'd rather pay for real good looking replica Ships of the Galaxy Class etc. no stupid kitbashing needed, just a high res model that looks as it should be looking. but thats just me...)
there are maybe 5 more Fed TV Ships left and i totally expect Cryptic to milk them for all the 2500 - 5000 Zen they can get out of them.
Why a Romulan Faciton? Because that opens up a whole new line of Ships to sell to us.
Why not just much more KDF Ships? They already told us that they even lost money on some KDF Ships... hard to believe but thats what they said.
Andorians, Vulcans & Caitians are members of Starfleet.
The races are. Their ships, are not. Seeing this many "civillian" ships (for a lack of better term) is not canon. Starfleet comprised the bulk of spacecraft within the Federation (which is why civillians, ambassadors, dignitaries, etc were always hitchin a ride) and the localized fleets of the member worlds were small.
The reason for this is because when a world joins the Federation, they generally fold their existing military and space agencies into Starfleet. If I recall, the process or at least a summary of what goes on when a planet joins, is given in the DS9 book series "Avatar" and pretty much sums up why you wouldn't see Vulcan, Catian and Andorian ships in regular service alongside Starfleet vessels, even in a time of war.

Actually, I would like to see some more 2409 era ships. Personally, I think they did a decent job on the Chimera, and while it wasn't their design, I have come to respect the Odyssey class' looks as well. But most of all, I LOVE the Excalibur.
I'd certainly be willing to see some more of 2409, especially a 2409 take on the Excelsior, similar to the 2409 take on the Connie which the Excalibur provides.
But I do agree with your premise for why we are seeing so many "faction" ships. Just wish there was a bit more focus on canon in this game, and a little less focus on theme park.
Oh well, such is life!

I get where you're comming from, Starfleet uses Starfleet ships, the traditional modular design with saucer/neck/warp nacelles. But the point being is that STO is in the 25th century, a certain canonwise future sort of speak. And we can't really tell how would Starfleet develop in the future.
What has been done in the shows, has been done for popularity, more viewers, financial restrictions etc. That's one of the reasons that the crews of Starfleet vessels were mostly consisted of Humans. Luckily, a game like STO doesn't carry those kind of restrictions, so it's not unusuall to have more Vulcans or Caitians in Starfleet than Human.
If we look at the cannon, ENT clearly sets it up that the saucer/neck/warp nacelles design originated from Earth. Isn't it a bit pretentious to say that Humans are the best engineers and ship designers in the whole galaxy? Clearly the Vulcans & Andorians had superrior ship design and technology prior to Humans. So in a game, I think we have the opportunity to take a broader view of the possibilities. There is no reason why Starfleet should not use some different (alien) design if it proves worthwhile. After all, the Federation is an alliance of a vast number of different species - each with different view on technology.
The only issue I see with these "non orthodox" designs is the hull material, I suspect Starfleet to already use what is best at their disposal, so they should use the same material on these - white with blue nacelles and red bussard collectors. But then again, I'm a fan of the D'Kyr classic look and wouldn't like to limit JamJamz and prevent future excellent work like what he did on the Kumari exterior.

I think Cryptic might mess up some designs when they need to keep to certain proportions in somekind of limits. But if the devs. go and make their own 'new' designs for 2409 I think they will do a great job. Just my opinion, I'm a fan of what they did with certain ships like the Korath, Krenn, Regent, K'maj, Kumari....
I think if Cryptic devs start making new 2409 ships in their design, starting from scratch, they would actually do a very good job.

It's got a lot of Starfleet things, a lot of Klingon things, and a lot of other Star Trek things. Because it would be an awful world if we all liked the same things.

What music is that, by the way?

To some, you are all one in the same and interchangeable. They have no concept of what goes into something like this.
WIN!! I would get one.
Cardassian ships.
Tholian ships.
Ferengi ships.
Andorian ships.
Vulcan ships.
Catian ships.
Mirror Universe ships.

Beam in a dairy bomb, and the ship will get soggy
